Even Dibbuns Need A Day Off-Redwall Roleplay

Who:

Oz- Badger Mother, AKA Papa Oz

Isa-Dibbun Kitten

Spoofs of other dibbuns (Spoofs of dibbuns by Isa)

Log:

Oz has finished a math class and slowly walks down the steps and goes to sit in his chair. A Brother Rick comes over with a mug of some sort of herbal smelling stuff and hands it to him as the badger sighs but drinks it "I still..dislike that stuff" The squirrel frowns "It helps.." .."Does it?" Oz asks as the Brother just sighs and walks off leaving Oz to try and relax in the chair.

Isa for once is with some of the other dibbuns. There's a little group of four of them being led by a novice who's giving a long lecture on plants as they head towards the orchards. The silent kitten is taking up the rear, already considering making a run for it when the other three dibbuns spot Oz and suddenly take off running themselves, headed for the badger with some happy cheers. Isa is just left behind as the novice runs to catch up with them.

Oz smiles as he hears the dibbuns, oh well some rest can wait as he decides to just forget the chair, besides he rather not sit really as he feels fine "Hello my dibbuns, sounds like your learning a little about plants, important stuff to know and your learn even more in a couple seasons in other classes"

"But it's booorin'" one dibbun complains as they try to clamber Oz to sit on him causing the novice to frown "It's important" the adult replies. One of the dibbuns is at least a little more observant and watches Isa as the cat starts to walk off "The kitten's getting away again"

Oz sits down again and smiles "it is important to learn but maybe whom ever is teaching the class can make it more fun for the younger ones"As younger beasts can learn better when its a little fun, "Also knowing what plants are good to eat and what is not is always good ta know if your ever in the woods and find out you maybe forgot your lunch"

The novice who was lecturing them seems to take that comment personally and looks displeased "I can't make everything a game, there's too much to cover" this just seems to make a couple of the dibbuns amused but also means the novice isn't listening to the kids and Isa gets away without any adults noticing it seems.

Oz frowns "Well a lesson does not have to be long for a dibbun, they...have short attention spans, unlike when they are old enough be novices...then some of them have short attention spans but not as short." He smiles."And doesn't have to really be a game all the time, maybe something as simple as...color of a berry..can you find a red one, a blue one and then if they do then tell them good job and tell them what it is like that's a blueberry or that's a strawberry"

The novice frowns back "We've only just started! I've barely just got them out the door, their attention can't be that short" one of the dibbuns, a mousemaid, looks annoyed "My attention's no'short!" she objects loudly with a young squirrel joining in "Yeah! An' I know wha' a blueberry and strawberry are, we have them f'lunch!" the remaining dibbun who saw Isa go just stands on the ground and mutters to herself "This is why she keeps gettin' away...Doesn't matter if she says anythin', no one's listenin'"

Oz smiles "What have you been teaching them, I do know a lesson can seem boring if one already knows what is being taught...dibbuns do learn not to worry but things don't always needed repeated a lot of the time." He has had good and bad days with the dibbuns as well, it happens .

"We're supposed to cover all the types on trees in the orchards and what sort of fruit or nuts come from them...We were going to draw leaves assuming we ever get to the orchard at this rate" The novice replies sounding a little unhappy. The dibbun muttering to herself, a small shrew, seems to get annoyed by this point and looks at the other dibbuns "They're talkin' about us like we can't hear them an' they're not listenin'. Come on, lets just go find the cat ourselves" she starts walking off, the other two dibbuns pause for a moment and then go to follow her.

Oz can hear, he clears his throat "Do not walk off..stay where you are please"He says in a soft but yeah listen, voice, he tilts his head at the novice "Maybe look for the missing dibbun, they can stay with me for now a lesson can wait till later after all, its not like they have to know all that today." He speaks to the dibbuns "Now...what would you like to do for the rest of the day?" What...a fun day can happen right? And he sort of whats a fun day after a lot of days of classes and learning and...well they have not had too much free time and...well he isn't even sure how much longer he will be around for the dibbuns.

Two of the dibbuns stop and stay but the shrew is in an arguing mood after being ignored and continues marching off "No! I'm goin' to find the cat" the novice looks around quickly "Where did she go now?" he questions before looking back to Oz "I can't take that kitten! We need....a lead or a guard or something! She's always gone!" he sounds aggravated.

Oz asks, "And why is she always gone?" He frowns towards the dibbun walking off, well there is always stand slowly, though he is unsure just how far the dibbun is from him, ok fine two are staying and that's good and he knows a couple other novice will make sure the dibbun stays somewhat close" I do wonder why she wanders off so much, she never speaks and is oddly so quiet it can be hard to keep track of her.""

The novice sighs "They can't get out at least, the worse they can do is raid the kitchen. As soon as Nutty's done with his classes he can track her down again" because Novice Nutacre, aka Nutty, is pretty much the official cat catcher now. The novice doesn't try to give chase, some part of him is hoping the shrew dibbun will help solve the problem "I don't know why she won't stay, she never says anything, how can we know?"

Oz says, "I hope Krisha can help her, I suppose we will see." He sounds concerned but still proves he is paying attention to the dibbuns that did stay"Maybe fellow dibbuns can get her to talk one day, friends are always important after all""

"She doesn't talk to us either" the mouse dibbun says with the squirrel dibbun speaking up afterwards "But she can jump real good t' get up to the shelves an'-" he gets elbowed sharply by the little mouse "Shh, y're not suppose to tell them that" the squirrel frowns back before looking at Oz "She hit me!" he says, pointing at the mouse.

Oz sighs, he clears his throat coughing a little, he speaks after a short pause "Not nice to hit, now say your sorry please...you all need to try and get along and no one should be climbing anything, one could get hurt and I would not want to hear of that and I am sure no one really wants to go to the infirm...even I dislike the infirm"

The mouse dibbun is about to say something mean back but Oz coughs and she falls quiet instead before muttering out a quiet "Sorry" there's a bit of a pause before the novice very quietly says "I wanted to work in the infirmary" he seems a little sad but quickly moves on, going to walk off "If you can watch those two I'll go and find the others"

Oz raises an eyebrow, he has been known to watch much more than 2 dibbuns, "And you can always ask the abbot about helping in the infirm, usually nothing too minor happens for beasts to be there...checkups lately."

The dibbuns watch the novice go before the mousemaid returns to trying to climb on to Oz's lap "He's sad when people don't like the infirmary cause he wants t'be a healer" she explains. The squirrel nods "He knows all the plants an' illnesses...He hates it if y'try to distract him when he's studying" the squirrel grins because he likes distracting the novice anyway.

Oz nods "Being a healer is important..some do dislike healers but....usually cause they have to go a lot and depending on whom does the checkups, it can be..annoying"

The little mouse shrugs "They're important but no one like them...like classes!" she giggles at the comparison.

Oz smiles a little "Just gonna have to make classes more..interesting I suppose, sides all dibbuns need to be good for a special camp out by the pond here in a couple weeks, that should be fun and maybe we can see if the friar will make flower shaped cookies that day. have fun and games"

The dibbuns perk up to the mention of the camp out and start peppering the badger with questions "Will we have a fire?" "Can we have cake too?" "Can we cook apples on the fire?" "How about chestnuts?" "What games can we play?" "Do we have to learn anything or can we just have fun?"

Oz chuckles as he smiles "Its a fun day and maybe with help roast apples, if there is any...we can have candy chestnuts and games, a story and Krisha will be helping a lot that day"

The rest of the afternoon is made to be fun, Oz does get outta breath a couple times as those two dibuns are joined by..may as well be a horde, but least it's a horde of dibbuns and then it starts to rain and they head inside, the chair, a rocking chair, is brought back in, no worries its water prove and soon its dinner, and bedtime with a nice story about how one of the badger Lords, Lord Russano   the Wise  was a dibbun here and how he use to sneak pies with the help of a hare dibbun.
