Some assorted Abbey beasts.....
Log:
Tassel makes her way down the steps, a novice with her that seems concerned as the otter maid speaks "I am fine...I just need to take it easy, not lay down so much"And she is CLEARLY with dibbun, no worries she wont have it...today anyways. She finds a chair and sits down as the novice sighs and wanders off elsewhere like they could really help if she was suddenly having her dibbun they would likely panic.
The Great Hall is a clatter and awash with noise, beasts talking, novices and brothers and sisters of the order. Most of them are folding linen or making up the cots and beds that fill the great hall. There are a lot of woodlanders and the odd vermin around as well. Most of Mossflower is currently seeking refuge in the abbey and the dormitories are full, the great hall and cavern hole are filled with Beds. The Abbot is standing by the tapestry with a long list in one hand talking to beasts as they come up to him with questions.
Tassel watches the abbot before grunting and standing and again with the are you ok, need something she sighs and storms away before someone asks again and she sighs "Fine...an apple pie with hotroot on top, maybe some walnuts and mellow creamer...oh and apple slices?" She gets an odd look and she sighs"Nevermind" She wanders over to the abbot"Hello sir"
Benar looks at Tassel and smiles, "Oh Miss Tassel, how are you today? Do you have everything you need? I am sorry we are all so cramped right now and I can't offer you all the usual comforts of the abbey."
Oz makes his way downstairs and frowns slightly, always a lot in here this time of the day but most have figured out to..well move aside when he walks in and no crowd of dibbuns right now, he does have times away from them after all.
Tassel smiles "I noticed and I am getting along fairly well for now, better than a few weeks ago....."She sighs in thought "I do hope there is less..problems when my dibbun is born, then I can always find somewhere quiet to go if needed then"
Benar says, "Afternoon Oz," The abbot calls out to let Oz know where he is then turns back to Tassel, "WelI I am sure it'll be a magical moment, we need something special and nice right now with everything going on out in the woods. Refugees have stopped arriving which either means everyone is here or.... the horde is out there capturing anyone who gets close"
Oz frowns "Its been....a bit too quiet if ask me. quiet can't be a good thing"He says quietly.
Tassel listens as she lays a paw on her midsection,"Just..so the walls protect us I mean they do of course they do..my husband Anatole has been helping on the walls, sometimes I wish he would not..what if he...got hurt?"
Benar says, "Anatole has been a great help, and I am sure he will be safe Tassel, and the walls have stood up to larger legions then Ormaz has over the seasons. No one is breaching those walls, not with us forewarned."
Oz says, "The gates were not too long ago fixed with stronger metal also, it should hold well"
Tassel smiles "That's...good to know..."She then asks "When....not to seem..too concerned but when its time for my dibbun to be born, is there a more..quiet place to be?And rather not really be in the infirm..the cots are not that..comfy for..that really and a lot of beasts around at the time not the best either"
Benar says, "Yes of course Tassel," He frowns and looks up, "Ah... what about... hmm the kiln? It's perfectly clean I have had no time to do any pottery work in ages. We can rig up a canvas over the entrance and set up a proper bed for you? That should be nice and comfortable and quiet."
Kenya skips a little, she is smiling too as she is happy and in her light green robes now. She has keep it clean too even when helping with a few chores.
Oz hmms "Is it safe outdoors?"He says quietly to Benar, he smiles as he hears Kenya enter the room,he is just glad she is happy today after knowing she been unhappy a while.
Tassel says, "I...maybe..just so Anatole is there."She knows a healer will be there of course."
Benar rubs his chin, "The Kiln should be safe enough, it is not that far outside but hmmm.." He looks around, "I guess there is my room... you could use that whilst you are having your dibbun? That is at least inside."
Kenya walks over to where the small group is and nods "Hello"She says quietly and glaces at Tassel, a small wave is given to her.
Oz speaks "Maybe...my room, no need to use your room Benar and I can close the room off to wayward dibbuns. And hello Kenya you seem in a much better mood than earlier"
Tassel smiles"Either place is fine."She may have some worry but hides it well
Benar asks, "Oh Kenya, looking nice in the Novice outfit," He smiles, "How are you finding life as a Novice so far?" He looks at Oz then back at Tassel, "Well there we go, two quiet rooms""
Kenya smiles " I Like it and Brother Rafael is gonna teach me some healer stuff starting tomorrow and I can be in other classrooms now and its good" Chore load not so much.
Tassel says, "Being a novice must take a lot of work or so I heard I am not sure if me and Anatole will stay here after...well all this or go elsewhere, maybe camp willow even. How..is camp willow right now?""
Oz hmms "We have not heard anything from Camp Willow so I am not sure"
Benar says, "Yes I am afraid I've not had any news from Camp Willow, or Xander or the Long patrol so I do fear we are on our own," He sighs then brightens a bit and smiles at Kenya, "Oh well that is nice, but don't settle on any one profession yet, try them all"
Kenya says, "I want to learn healing and help beasts. I read well...math is ok. I might look into woodwork,I..I don't know..."She frowns "You don't think...Xander got lost do or or ...the bad beasts got him...do you?"
Benar looks up at the tapestry and reaches out to place a paw on Martin, he looks at it for a long moment then shakes his head as if coming out of a reverie, "Seabirds..." He murmurs then turns back to Kenya, "Hmm what was that about Xander?"
Oz says, "I am sure Xander is fine where ever he is.....we would of heard something by now"He hopes so anyways"Camp willow may be handling this in their own way, maybe they will even help the abbey if needed. We could use the help"
Kenya blinks "Sea..birds?" She frowns and speaks "Didn't he like go ...ummm"Ok she can't pronounce the mts name. She sighs "Sea birds are like...gulls right, I saw them in a book somewhere"
Tassel says, "Sea gulls like the seas you won't see those kind of birds here"
Benar asks, "Hmm seabirds?" He looks down at Kenya, "What about sea birds? no Seabirds this far inland.""
Kenya says, "You said something about them is all"
Oz hmms softly but will ask later"So Kenya anything else of interest you may want to learn or try and learn?"
Kenya shrugs "Maybe..cooking, I don't know I did help make cookies once and it was fun"
Benar asks, "I don't think so? Why would I talk about seabirds?" He smiles softly and moves to settle down in a chair with a sigh, "It is nice to see so many beasts around however."
Thomas comes into the Great Hall, pausing as he listens to the clamor of beasts all around.
Kenya shrugs and sits down "I don't know"She decides to forget it, "I don't like birds...birds are bad like that hawk"
Oz frowns"I agree...the hawk wasn't nice but it was taken care of and...gone now. Rigel most likely put it outside"
Benar settles down in his chair and snuggles down against the cushions, head drooping a bit, the abbot napping softly as he falls asleep he murmurs, "The Mountain on the Shore, the Fires Dim but the Hammer Lord within," He jerks his head back up and smiles, "So Kenya, have you tried pottery?"
Thomas perks his ears, as he moves closer to the Abbot's group. "What's all this talk of hawks for?"
Oz tilts his head at Benar and arches an eyebrow"Benar? You were just....muttering, you ok?"
Kenya frowns "A hawk was in the orchards and...."She looks at Benar and , well she was told to write things down so she does" Yeah you said ..The Mountain on the Shore, the Fires Dim but the Hammer Lord within" She reads what she wrote down..
Benar blinks a bit and lowers his glasses then yawns softly, "Oh sorry, it's been a very tiring few weeks, I've not been sleeping as well as usual. I was probably dreaming but... there are oh Hawks in the orchard now Kenya."
Thomas grips his walking stick. "I must be somewhat out of the loop, I'm afraid. A hawk in the orchard? How unusual. But it is gone now, thankfully."
Oz frowns "It was there..got shot down, a week earlier...maybe little longer, one tried to hurt Benar by the walls." He sighs “No one was hurt this time Benar”
Kenya looks at the ground and frowns"I..I was in the tree house cause..I wanted left alone...and the hawk tried to knock me out but I got away."She looks away “Papa Oz was there and caught me and we got to the tool shed and the door got messed up with talons but the hawk didn't get us or claw us and...Rigel made the hawk dead....”She blinks from her muttering “Pottery?”
Benar has fallen asleep again, the abbot nodding of gently. He is smiling in his sleep however as Kenya talks to him, but this time he seems quiet asleep and quiet.
Thomas hrrms. "I see. I never heard about it. How frightful."
Oz nods "It...was but no one was hurt in the orchards. The only other issue was that..cat, but she was escorted out. She did help get some slaves free but also caused some trouble and disappeared but I think she is in hiding seeing as her former boss tried to slay her"
Kenya sits by Benar and will keep the paper and words she has written down, but she does look at them quietly.
Benar murmurs in his sleep again, "The Hammer Lord marches over dunes and sand, those who defend beside him, the Abbey Rings its bells in crisis but the end is not here, though one will not see the after end."
Oz listens as Benar speaks and hmms, "Kenya..write down what he says"He says quietly as to not distrube Benar.
Kenya nods as she writes down some more and looks at it, "Whats it mean?" She asks curious of the words."Why is he...saying all that?" Another though"Martin?"
Thomas nods, frowning. "Far too much happening at once." He pauses, hearing Benar speak. "And the Abbot's words. I have no clue what a 'Hammer Lord' is, but a 'Mountain on the Shore'? That's easy. Any storyteller worth his salt knows what that is..."
Benar shifts in his chair and opens his eyes blinking, he straightens his glasses and looks around, "Oh so sorry, I nodded off again," He stood up and shook out his habit, "I've clearly been over doing it.... what were we talking about?"
Oz says, "I forgotten...seems Martin may of been trying to send a message and Benar, you really should rest if your tried its not good to over do things"
Kenya frowns "You were muttering about a hammer and a mountain and...marching"
Benar rubs at his muzzle and frowns, "Oh.... ah Martin... does that sometimes, what did he say?"
Kenya reads what she wrote " The Mountain on the Shore, the Fires Dim but the Hammer Lord within.....The Hammer Lord marches over dunes and sand, those who defend beside him, the Abbey Rings its bells in crisis but the end is not here, though one will not see the after end"
Thomas hmms. "Martin speaking again, eh?"
Benar frowns and then nods, "Thank you Kenya... I think I know the message he is sending us.... but ... we'll have to wait and see."
Oz says, "Interesting...Lord..Badger Lord maybe?"
Kenya nods "You said write down important things and help you remember."
Oz says, "A message from Martin is always important"
Benar nods to Oz and tucks his hands into his sleeves, "I think he was telling us to have hope... Salamandastron received our message... whether they will get here in time he does not say..." He frowns at the windows, "I should go talk to Matilda... I fear something may happen soon."
Kenya frowns, a little worried but tries to not be. She nods slowly.
Oz nods "It..might...we should try and be ready. I don't think the quiet is going to last very long at all."
Thomas frowns. He doesn't like the uncertainty of the moment.
Kenya sits down and looks over what she wrote down, ...."Whats Hammer Lord mean?..Whats it mean one wont see after end?"
Benar says, "Hammer Lord... it probably refers to the badger lord... of Salamandastron, but for now my friends I must go and speak to Matilda, I will see you all later," He nods to Thomas and Kenya and pats Oz's arm before hurrying off.
Oz shrugs "I do not understand riddles too well, I am sure it means something"
Thomas frowns. "It's best not to speculate too much, Miss."
Kenya nods as she sighs and folds the paper keeping it with her for now.
Oz says, "Yes lets not worry on it now sometimes things mean something totally different from what we think""
Thomas says, "Wise words indeed, Oz."
Kenya frowns, but she smiles still "Anyones...I should focus on my novice stuff right?"
Oz says, "Yes and try out healing still and maybe cooking, or what ever else""
Kenya says, "I..don't know about cooking....someone said the friar don't like anyone in his kitchen at all"
Oz says, "Think that's mainly if one is a hare"He chuckles "I do wonder though if the Long Patrol does come...think of all the hares then""
Kenya giggles "Lots of hare wanting food"
Oz grins "That could be interesting....wot wot"He smiles
Kenya giggles "Your being silly Papa Oz.."She smiles, she's in a good mood at least.
Oz smiles "I am allowed to be silly...now you need something to do, lets see...I know..read the dibbuns a story?"
Kenya smiles "Really...me? What kind?"
Oz says, "Maybe one about a badger Lord...come on" He leds the way"They will like a story before dinner"
