Log:
It's a cloudy evening. A storm is approaching, although the old-timers are not certain about if the Ferravale/Mossflower area will get hit with anything more than a gentle rain. The sun is setting behind the clouds, and dark is coming much earlier than it usually does.
Blisa is sitting on the edge of her bed, her forehead resting in one paw while the other holds a beaker of steaming tea. Ferdinand and Valerie are standing in front of her, concerned looks on their faces. "It's probably the storm that's causing your migraine," The vixen is saying. The young cat glares at her. "Yeah, and my dumb head injury that you said was fully healed." Valerie frowns. "Well, I also did warn you that there would be lasting effects from it...
In the main room, the other bodyguards have a pair of trainees, a vixen and a male rat. Clarissa has them standing in front of the fireplace. "Now, messmates, as bodyguards of the Chieftain, you 'ave to be ready to give up your very life to save 'ers. Nothin' can 'appen to 'er."
Outside, the wind picks up as the storm draws nearer.
Melantha is outside with a couple ferrets. She has sent a couple others elsewhere with orders to make sure a certain base is destroyed, like burnt to the ground, a distraction for the more..well...evil part of this whole plan as she sighs, why her? Why pick the cat to do this.
Bodyguards. Bah! Thinks the entangled mess of coils and scales that populate the felines floor. Bodyguards here, bodyguards over there, bodyguards EVERYWHERE. Creatures of fur and meat, sweet, delectable meat. Meat that he can only watch prance around from one place to another, but never taste.
The snake on the floor hisses gently to himself. He had resigned himself to the role of 'pet' long ago. But, on days like this, the rainy days that drove him to seek shelter in this house so long ago, it makes him... long for the days he could be free. Days he could HUNT.
Why does the serpent linger here, in this hive of chaotic fuzzy dwellers? He should be out there, devouring and terrorizing the woodlands, not trapped here as some...
Lightning cracks outside and Basilisk shivers. With a distaistfull chuff, the snake begins to move for the door, head struggling to slither over his tail end that spills out into the hallway. "Move." He says simply to the guards. Internally he twitches, being so close to his natural prey and yet, so very far from ever having it.
Ormaz drifts through the rain behind Melantha, feeling his pulse pounding. With a silent, yet deep breath, he steadies himself. At this point, there's no going back from the path history will lead him along. He grins cruelly and grips the hilt of a dagger. If there are throats to be slit, he will be ready.
Rainbow flies in through the open window, water cascading out of their feathers as she flares her wings and lands on a chair. She huffs and fluffs her wings, shaking them out, that soft rainbow reflection of light playing over them she she turns to glare out the window. "This is to be being stupid summer weather," She chirps to herself, clearly unhappy and looks around for any sign of Blisa, she has a message to deliver and had to fly in the rain! So annoying.
Clarissa has the trainees, who look serious yet thrilled about their job, in front of the fireplace in the main room. She turns to the raven and smiles, nodding. "Ahoy, matey! Y'come to see Cap'n Blisa? She's in the back bedroom. Be warned, though, she has a massive 'eadache." The other bodyguards nod, and Statler the stoat points to the open door that the snake is worming his way through.
All the bodyguards move out of his way. Yes, he won't eat them (or else face the wrath of the Chieftain), but could certainly squish them if they don't move out of his way.
Blisa, sitting on her bed, still fully dressed, squints at Valerie, her head hurting too much to truly glare. "I thought you (ow) said that these headaches would fade with time and stop being so severe!" The vixen calmly nods. "Aye, but I also warned you that inclement weather would negate the healing at times."
Ferdinand opens the Chief's bedroom window more to let in the cool breeze. Clarissa and the trainee vixen will be in here, so he figures the cat will be fine.
The snake pays the fuzzy creatures no mind, nor any stares he may or may not receive. He navigates quickly through the door, his scales brushing either side of the frame. As his tail leaves Blisa's room his head reaches the kitchen while on his way to the basement.
Melantha snorts, she motions for a couple rats to slip around for an opening and also she makes sure no comes and sees anything as a weasel frowns, the cat hisses low "What now?" ..."I'm hungry can we get food after this?" The Black Rose or former Black Rose leader just slaps the weasel "Shut up and guard already" She so rather be elsewhere.
Drifting closer to the house, Ormaz reaches into a pouch at his waist. Glancing furtively in either direction, he withdraws a band of thin cloth, which he ties over his nostrils and mouth. He motions for the other vermin to do the same--presumably they've brought similar masks with them.
Rainbow nods to Clarissa and flicks her wings and flies back into the air and zooms through the open door, staying well above the snake. She flares her wings and settles on a bed knob on the bed, "Sorry to interupt Blisa, but I bring a message from the Wise Grey Squirrel of the Red Castle, also on the way through the forest Rainbow was to be being seeing the home of the Defenders of Forest of Moss, it is but ash and smoke."
Blisa squints at the raven as she takes a sip of her tea...which comes spraying out of her mouth at the bird's words. "WHAT?!" As Valerie steps back, wiping at the new wet spot on the front of her tunic, the Chieftain hops off her bed, pushing through the pain of her migraine. "The Defender's base has been destroyed?! By who? Did you see? Wait, no, first tell me what Benar's message is!" Ferdinand rests a paw on his sabre hilt, his brow furrowing.
Clarissa turns back to the trainees, all the bodyguards completely and obliviously unaware of the growing evil stealing about outside their home. "Now, messmates, let's say somebeast was tryin' to kidnap the Chief. What's the first thing we should do?" The rat pipes up eagerly
"Get the Chief to safety while some of the other bodyguards fought off the attackers!" "Very good, matey!"
Statler and Waldo the weasel lower the windows in the living room as rain starts to fall outside.
Melantha gets a mask and tosses a couple to the rats....well the weasel decides he don't need one "What ever "She mutters and waits for order, yes she has to take orders now and she hates it as she should be the one ordering him but she will not dare say that to the stoats face.
Somewhere, outside the kitchen, Basil can hear Blisa going off on a tangent again. Something about birds maybe. It matters not, not really. Losing his status as a hunter always hurt, but he took solice in at least playing the role of guardian. Or at least, attack monster. But with all the body guards around, is Basilisk even needed anymore? Is he really doomed to forever be a pet?
Rainbow flicks her wings back, "Well the Wise Grey Squirrel does be sending his regards and his thanks, but is to be being announcing that the Sword of the Great Worm Martin has been given to a Quilled Beast of the Earth to stand as Champion," As the bird talks a sound starts to interupt, it is distant and quiet this distance but it is a regular sound, the bells of Redwall, echoing the Alarm Call, both ringing in riotus union to call the beasts of Mossflower to Sanctuary. The bird turns her head and with a startled chirp flies up to the rafters of Blisa's room, "The Death Call! Rainbow's Eggmother has told her of the golden call of Death! The summons to leave wood and river and flee to the Red Castle."
After tying the cloth around his face, Ormaz reaches in the pouch and pulls out a small clay jar with a few holes in the lid, with a short wick protruding from one of the holes. Using tinder and flint, he ignites the end of the wick, holding the jar in one gloved paw until noxious smoke billows forth from the unclogged holes. He repeats the process for several more jars; then, he hurls each one as hard as he can through the window to the bedroom. The jars shatter inside the Chieftain's home and smoke quickly fills the room...
Blisa looks out the window as the Abbey Bells start to ring. "Whu....I wonder if they know about--" She is interrupted by the jars crashing onto the floor of her bedroom.
As the noxious smoke starts to fill the enclosed space, the Chieftain screams in terror. Ferdinand hefts her up and over his shoulder as Valerie shouts, "Knockout gas! Cover your faces!" But it's too late, as they trio discovers: the bodyguards stumble as they try to flee the bedroom, darkness washing over them. Blisa, being so much smaller than the others, slips into unconsciousness first, growing limp in her Head Bodyguard's arms as he falls to his knees.
The other bodyguards hear the crashes, scream, and shouts, and, drawing their weapons, start to run to the Chieftain's aide, the trainees managing to cover their faces before any smoke gets into their lungs.
Basilisk, having heard the shouting, quickly turns....and gets stuck between the kitchen cabinets. "ACK!" He struggles to get free. "Hold on Blissssa, I'm coming!!"
There is a plate of cheese buns sitting tantalizingly on the living room table....
Melantha meanwhile does as she is told, a random guard, yes he is new comes and starts to call an alarm when he suddenly gets a dagger in his throat and falls over dead. The Black Rose leader chuckle sand grins . She nods to two rats to make sure all goes well and the weasel..is missing, he has slipped into the kitchen for valuables....some loose gold , an interesting map and then he sees the cheese buns and smiles "Well no one said anything bout no snacks..I can make sure no one goes past me and he eats the cheese buns, he would likely get kicked out of the horde if he is caught goofing off but one doesn't really leave this horde so easily it would seem.
Rainbow screeches as the gas explodes into the bedroom, being in the rafters the Raven has a moment to react before it lifts up toward her and she dives out the window. Wings spread, she catches a horde beast on their way in and for good measure rakes the beast in the eyes, using him as a spring board to launch herself into the sky screeching an alarm. Of course considering most of Blisa's guards are in the house it'll take time for the rest of Ferravale to respond but the raven is winging her way toward the center of town calling the alarm.
Ormaz winces and snarls as the raven screeches. Cursing himself for not bringing a bow to silence her with, he hisses to the horde beasts, "Go!" Trusting the thick cloth of his garments to protect him from the glass, he leaps through the window. Landing in a crouch, he picks his way towards the trainees, relying on the smoke to conceal him from view until he's in striking distance. Drawing a dagger, he lunges forward towards where Blisa's voice had come from, relying entirely on hearing and touch to locate her as smoke rises to the rafters.
Melantha will let Ormaz get the chieftain, she will make sure no birds or guards get in the way as for the weasel....too bad she is so leaving him to what ever fate he gets.
Smoke spreads through the house, and the other bodyguards are falling to their knees, coughing and hacking as their limbs grow weak and floppy. The trainees are the only guards who are still upright, and they have their swords out, slashing wildly as they step over Valerie, Blisa, and Ferdinand, who are completely unconscious on the floor. The other guards fall to the floor themselves as darkness overtakes them.
Basilisk is still stuck, and the kitchen door is closed, so he is only able to just barely taste the smoke as it seeps under the door a little. Hissing madly, he slows down and untwists himself, anger at what might be happening to Blisa turning on his killer predator instincts. He takes a deep breath into his massive lungs, then pushes the door open....
A rook flies up to the raven's side. It's Virginia, the 2nd-in-command of the birds under Blisa. After she finds out what happens, she flies off to alert the rest of the Nightwings.
Ormaz dodges the wild slashing with almost contemptuous ease for the most part, although one sword-stroke does tear a ragged gash in his cloak as he dodges around. Hearing the door open, he nearly freezes up for a fraction of a second. A new enemy? All the more reason to leave now! Slipping around the trainees, he snatches up Blisa and makes a break for the window again. With a grunt of effort, he throws her through the window and hops out just shy of where she lands, scooping her up again and barking, "Time to go!" To his minions.
Melantha nods and quickly leaves with a couple rats. The weasel panics and seems left behind as he goes to run and slips on some loose bit of mess on the floor and slowly stands"WAIT FOR ME!"
Rainbow lands in the main square and screeches at the guards walking past, once she has their attention she points her wings at the chieftain's house and the guards run for the house. The bell also starts to ring out an alarm, too little too late however, by the time the vermin in the town respond to the alarm well it's a long way from the square to the chieftain's house.
Blisa is scooped up and taken away, unconscious. Who knows how she'll react when she awakens?
Meanwhile, the trainees have slipped on the shards of broken jars. As they fell, the fabric came down over their faces, and they breathe too much of the gas, falling into a drug-induced sleep, although not as quickly as the other guards since the smoke is dissipating and also flowing out the opens windows.
With one last leap, the weasel makes it to the window, right as something clamps down on his foot paw. He screams as he falls, slamming his chest into the window before being dragged back inside. He screams again as he sees what is dragging him inside. "No! NO!" His terrified shrieks only serve to make the snake angrier. "Thossse who dare tressspass the home of Bassilissk, DIE." The snake lashes the beast with his tail, throwing him into the wall. While he is stunned The snake coils around the weasel, binding his legs and arms to his body. "And those who harm Basilisskss friends... Suffer..."
"N-no! Wait! I can tell you where they are taking the chieftess! I can help you! Please, by Scully's beard, just don't eat me!" The pleadings cease as Basil leans forward, taking a good sniff of the beast. "Did you... eat my cheesebuns?" Basilisk narrows his eyes at the weasel before opening his maw wide. The weasel screams as a pair of fangs sink into his sides. The predatory instincts of the snake kick over and he loses himself in the following frenzy. In the end, the weasel is consumed. Fur, bone, clothing, and his black rose tattoo, are all devoured...
The city guards are going to have to force the door to the Chieftain's house open since it's locked, and what a sorrowful sight awaits them when they do.....
....Blisa, Chieftain of Ferravale, is nowhere to be found.
