In the Snake Pit...literally. (LP log)

This is a direct continuation of this log: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=360

SCENE: The Snake Pit, a vermin gambling den and, um, snake pit? O.o

LOG:
The fox only twitches an eye. Whispering through a forced smile she says, "I think... we should leave. NOW. I had a sudden revelation that it's ok to be poor and have one's hide, than be rich and dead."
The fox twitches an ear as a scream fills comes from the arena. She begins to get up, the paw of the lizard clamping down on her shoulder. "Where is the rush, ladies?" The burly reptile wraps an arm around both Rio and Fel, trying to bring them closer together with his head between them. "The show is only just beginning."
Down below in the arena the grey rat stands back, bloodied and gasping for breath but unable to look away from the corpse of his friend. That is, until the great doors behind him begin to open...

Felicity glares at her friend.  That sounds suspiciously like the vixen STOLE THE INVITATION.  Sneak thief.  She hadn't even started to rise when suddenly the lizard guy appears!  Gasping, she manages to stammer out in Tuscanian, "Go?  Oh, we weren't leaving, my friend just needs to use the loo, y'know?"  OH SHNAP, is her next thought as the lizard embraces them.  She did everything she could to cover up her identity as a hare, but she could do nothing to cover up every last trace of her scent.  She even bathed 3 times.  She desperately hopes the lizard's scarred muzzle means that he can't smell anything worth diddly-squat.  Her blue eyes turn to the sound of the doors in the pit opening, her mouth suddenly growing quite dry....

The crowd seems giddy with excitement. There is a tense feeling in the air and oddly enough, no one is placing bets.
Grabbing his knife the rat get's ready to fight what ever comes through the door... and simply vanishes.
One moment he is there, the next a shadow grabs ahold of the beast with a sickening CHOMP before pulling him into the cave beyond the doors. It happens so fast those that blink miss it.
A general murmur of disappointment runs through the crowd. "Now now folks," the lizard says to calm the crowd. "That was just the entrée," Suddenly the lizards grip on Rioko's shoulder tightens, and he moves his claws to grab ahold of Fel's hat to try and rip it off, "The menu has just expanded..."

Felicity was about to gag because she's /preeeeeeety/ sure that THAT'S A FLIPPING SNAKE DOWN THERE, but then she has slightly more pressing matters to focus on.  Such as, the lizard is trying to steal her hat!!  He gets a hold of it before the haremaid is able to dodge him.  As the hare falls to the floor, the hat comes off, revealing the bumps under her kerchief that are her ears.  Realizing that the game is up, the Long Patrol member smiles, revealing her rodent-like teeth for the first time that evening.  "Well, that happened."  She says in Tuscanian, just for kicks.

The color drains from Rioko's fur until she resembles an arctic fox.
"Next time," The lizard sneers, "Try a better disguise, Long Patrol SPY! Guards!"
There is a loud chorus of gasps from the crowd around them as guards begin to converge on them...

Felicity sighs, then yank off the kerchief and, while leaping off the floor, chucks it at the lizards face!  "It's an awesome disguise, YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS!"  She shouts in Common as she grabs a chair and goes to hit the lizard over the back with it, trying to also break it.  She's hanging onto the legs, so that would give her 2 clubs.  She goes to kick another chair towards the guards to slow them down!  Her vixen friend needs to do the same thing, yo!

The lizard manages to block the chair with his arms as it breaks upon him. The vixen kneeing him below the belt as he is distracted? Not so much. Grabbing a steak knife Rioko takes a different rout to defending her self.
"No body move or your boss gets it!" She shouts, slamming the already doubled over lizard into the table. The steak knife stops at his throat. "I mean it!" The guards seem... hesitant, slowing their advance amid terrified onlookers. Mostly terrified, a few place bets whether or not the beast will actually slit the owners throat.
"Any ideas on how we get out of this alive?" The fox asks the hare.

Felicity is mildly upset because she forgot about the steak knives.  Oh, well.  She has 2 clubs now, so that's helpful.  "Aye, and if /she/ doesn't, /I/ will, wot!"  It's obvious that the hare does actually mean it.  Twirling her new clubs, she glances around the room, her brain....well, actually, her thinking is a bit slow because IT'S SO LATE.  But adrenaline is helping there.  "We could just take the lizard captive....'old 'im still, and slit 'is throat if 'e moves, please."  Sticking one of her clubs under an arm, she goes to search the lizard for weapons...

"I don't think they are going to just let us leave with him." Rioko stabs the lizard enough to get the point across. "Listen you, tell them to stand down. If you don't, YOU will be added to the menu!"
She tries to get rough with their prisoner but he just laughs, "You two really are out of your league, aren't you?" The fox jams the knife further into his neck as the lizard begins to get up, but the knife can't seem to pierce his skin too deeply. "I pity you for thinking that little pig poker would go through monitor scales."
The lizard turns swiftly, catching the fox in the gut with his tail and sending her flailing downward into the pit. "GET HER!" He shouts. As one, four guards converge upon the hare!

Felicity yells and jumps over the table. Upsetting it, she leaves it laying on its side as a shield as she tries to get away! Swinging her clubs florentine, she tries to whack the closest guards in the face! "HA! Some monitor YOU are, wot! Can't even fight y'own battles, 'ave to 'ave mammals do it for you!!" That may not be the wisest thing she's ever said, but she's mad, okay? She sometimes does dumb things when she's mad.

A weasel takes a club to face and cries, "WHYYYYYYYYYY!" before falling backward. Another takes a step back from the hare... but in reality from the monitor lizard as he picks the table up behind her.
"I like to think of myself as an equal opportunity leader." He hoists the table high over head, ready to crush the hare with it!
Rioko, meanwhile in the pit, rubs her head as she sits up on the soft sand. Her eyes widen as she realizes where she is, head slowly glancing over her shoulder at the glowing eyes inside the cave behind her.
The cave beyond is mostly submerged in water and covered in darkness, but not enough that Rioko doesn't see the shadow of a long, narrow creature rapidly approaching her. "Um... Felicity. FELICITY!" Rioko shouts.

Felicity turns in time to see the table descending towards her.  Gasping, she leaps to one side and falls to the ground, losing one of her clubs.  Kicking off her boots, she roars and runs forward at top speed, shucking off her coat and flinging it at the monitor as she tries to tackle him and knock him into the pit.  "I'M COMING!  'S DEATH ON THE WIND!!  EEEUULLLLALLLIIIAAAAA!!!!!!"

The lizard makes a startled yelp as the one two punch of coat + hare collides with his head. He falls backward, screaming, head first into the pit, nearly crushing Rioko as he lands.
It's hard to tell which is more startled, the pudgy vixen or the white and black striped snake that comes out of the cave. The serpents eyes focus on the monitor...
"Holy cripes! The boss!" One beast among many shout from above. "Quick! Get 'em out of there!"

Felicity, exhilarated, leaps to her feet and exclaims, "Ha!  Who's outta their league now, lizard, wot?! .....oh, shnap...." she wilts as she looks up into the snake's face, armed with naught but a club.  "So you're why they call this place the Snake Pit," is her brilliant speech.

The snake only hisses as a reply. Rearing back to strike. The bulge of the unfortunate rat is still evident on the snake's midriff. On the other side of the arena the door begins to open as the monitor's minions rush to save him. The owner of the establishment struggles to get his bearings after the hare knocked him in here. He landed on his shoulder wrong and it is on FIRE. But pain does little to distract him from the danger. "Oh... poop on a stick..."

Felicity takes the scene in at a glance. "He's enslaved you, not us! If you eat him and help the vixen and me escape, then my friend and I will keep his cronies from attackin' you...whoo, boy!" she leaps away from the monitor and goes to grab the vixen's paw. Shoving the club into it, the haremaid takes off her belt! Did I mention that it has a sharp thingy on the back that it super pokey? Because it does. Hidden weapon! Whoot!

The snake doesn't seem to understand what the hare is yelling at her. Not that it matters because it is planning to kill the monitor anyway. "No! Wait! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!" he manages to scream before the snake bites him, enveloping his head in her jaws before waving him about like a rag doll. The serpent sends the lizard flying upward to crash against a table, leaving the poison to finish off what was not broken by his landing. The snake then makes a mad dash for the open door, where Rioko and Fel are heading, too! "Out of the way!" The fox slashes a rat to push him aside as she bowls past him. For such a well fed beast she can run rather fast when her life is on the line!

Felicity goes to grab the vixen and pull her aside. "Wait, let the snake go first!" She swings her sharp belt thing in the face of a rat, then shouts over his pained screams, "We escape through its caves, or we can just follow in its wake! Nobeast'll stop us 'cause they'll be too busy runnin' away!"

The vixen yelps as she is pulled against the wall. "Are you mad? Are you trying to get us..." And then the snake passes by like a freight train. For a brief moment the vixen and serpent share a glance eye to eye, as if the snake is telling the fox, "Next time... meat." before dashing off to freedom. Rioko isn't sure which is worse, the shouts of terror that can be heard from down the hall, or how they end as suddenly as they begin?

Felicity watches the snake zip by. "See? I just saved y'life. AGAIN. How many times do y'owe me now?" She goes to cautiously enter the tunnel that the snake just disappeared down, unaware that her arms and legs are bleeding.

"What do you want me to do? Bake you a cake?" The vixen retorts. She grabs the bleeding hare and leads her up the tunnel, trying hard to ignore the broken bodies of guards scattered along the path. Eventually they reach the original fork in the road. The path of the snake clearly goes out the exit, along with several paw prints of fleeing vermin. With the exit in sight Rio seems to hesitate, looking longingly at the second path, back to the dining room. Back to her wealth hidden somewhere inside...

Felicity lets herself be dragged along as she whines, "Oh, why'd y' 'ave to go off an' mention cake?! I'm starvin'....I 'aven't 'ad any food for the past I'avenoideahowmanyHOURS, wot!" As they pause, she looks where the vixen is looking and adds more gently, "Y'know, I bet we're the only beasts in this place now. It'd be perfectly safe to go get y'money, if 'tis still there."

The fox glances over her shoulder, raising an eyebrow. She was expecting the hare to be the voice of reason, not tell her what she wanted to hear. "I knew there was a reason I chose you to come along with me. Great minds think alike!" And so the vixen goes darting down the hall. The room beyond is empty now. Few beasts, even servants, would stay at the threat of a Long Patrol raid. But no one wanted to face the wrath of the serpent. The dining hall is empty... the kitchens are silent as are the doors leading away from the room.

Felicity doesn't perceive any problem. Besides, nobody at Salamandastron knows where she is. She is not getting paid to fight a freakishly poisonous snake, so she would rather like it if the vixen found her money so the haremaid could take some of it as compensation. She heads to the kitchens, saying, "I'm gonna see if there's any veggies in there because I'm starved! 'Ollah if y'need 'elp, wot!" And then she's off into the kitchens.

The fox nodded her head before dashing off into one of the side rooms. A moment later the hare opens the door to the kitchens... ...and the horrid sight of the monitor lizard standing behind the door. His scales are puffy where the snake bit him, the poison clearly seen running through his veins, and his right limb is possibly dislocated. This does nothing to keep the lizard from rushing the hare on all fours like a mad beast, "You ruined, EVERYTHING!" he shouts, trying to throw his good shoulder against Felicity.

Felicity was absolutely NOT expecting this! As such, she gets knocked to the floor, screaming, "RIO!!" She scrambles back, trying to get away from her enemy so she can rise and use her belt weapon thing. "Y'should be dead, that's one o' the most poisonous snakes in the world!" Is her smart comment. That couldn't possibly make the lizard more angry. #SarcasmFont

The lizard doesn't seem to care if he supposed to be dead or not. The belt slaps him across the face, leaving a mark with its barbed edge. It doesn't do enough damage to deter him from trying to grab the hare and strangle her. "I'll show you how monitorsss fight." He says, descending into a primal rage.

Felicity looks up at the monitor through her bruising left eye (when did that happen?) and tries to get away. "RIOKO, HELP, THE MONITOR'S STILL AL-ERK!" She starts kicking and swinging her belt frantically as her airway is closed off. Will her friend come to her rescue???

The lizard just continues to squeeze the hare with both claws. It's hard to decide: which distorts the creature's face more, poison or anger? "Leave my friend alone!" Comes the shout of the vixen. She leaps onto the monitors back, plunging her dagger into his back, repeatedly. He screams, dropping Fel and once again staggering towards the pit, trying desperately to grab the fox on his back. "Die you evil little thing! DIE!" Rio spits and the two go plummeting off the cliff and into the arena. There is a sickening CRACK as something down below breaks its neck. A moment later the vixen's paw is seen, desperately clinging to side of the pit. "Uh... Fel... Little help please?"

Felicity's head hits a broken table as she falls from the lizard's grasp, knocking her unconscious and scratching the back of her head up really badly. So the vixen is basically on her own.

What a scary prospect. Taking a deep breath Rioko grunts as she heaves her weight up and over the cliff. She lays there, panting for breath. Casually she looks over to the hare and sighs, "Nice time for you to lay down on the job Fel. Leave me do all the heavy work." The fox blinks when the hare doesn't reply, "Felicity?" She scrambles to her feet and to Fel's side, "Felicity!"

Felicity of course doesn't respond. The wounds on her arms and legs have scabbed over, but the fresh ones on the back of her head are bleeding pretty badly. Plus, if she was awake, she'd be hungry, so there's a lot of things wrong right now.

~*END*~

Will our brave (and insane) vixen be able to get her lagomorph friend to a Healer in time?  Stay tuned!

(Yes, okay, fine, here: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=312 In that RP, that of course I did before this one you just finished reading, I spoofed Lissie's wounds, which is why she got hurt so weirdly in this log.  tongue Felicity didn't die, don't worry. smile She's just fine, if slightly irritated at her foxy friend wink )
