A quiet evening turns to nightmares in Morning Light- Zoltar TP

Who:

Zolomon- Archer,Skilled Runner, Bodyguard

Kelp- Dibbun otter

Vonda- Haremaid

LOG:

Zolomon used  the staff to walk with about a day before he decided he would just use it when absolutely needed and he could use a a staff as a weapon too.

Vonda Walked along, " So, let me guess you're the silent type  huh?"

Kelp just giggled and keep quiet himself.

Zolomon snorts. " No….well maybe...nothing talk bout ok.."

Vonda shrugged. " You could tell me about ya self. You claimed you have no home anymore so what happen ta it?"

Kelp frowns." No..home….I know, live with us!"

Zolomon frowns. " I plan to find one, maybe Redwall….don't know not figured it out yet  " He shakes his head." And not talking about me self so your out of luck thar lass."

Vonda rolls her eyes." Its Vonda….ok, well I will tell you about myself and maybe it will encourage you to talk of….yourself."

Kelp  nods." I heard it lota times...it ok to tell him too."

Zolomon sighs like he is annoyed." Fine...wot ever." He will listen but he is far from interested right  now.

Vonda speaks, " Well...as Errapel said, I wandered into the holt. I was like 6 seasons and my..my parents died, I was
Alone and scared. The otters took me in, and a couple who couldn't have dibbuns,  they adopted  me, as their daughter. " She smiled." Ford and Velsa, but Mama and Papa to me."

Kelp jumped up and down and did a cartwheel. " But I came along after a few seasons. "

Zolomon nods." Interesting….but.." He is quiet and finishes  ." Sound like good beasts."

Vonda smiles. " Oh they are and make the BEST hotroot stew and these little berry cakes."

Kelp nods." Bite size and yummy!"

Zolomon sighs, a..very faint smile." It..does sound..good."

Vonda looks at Zolomon and chuckles." Hey I..sort of..almost got a smile, I think..ok your turn"

Kelp nods." Wanna knows bout Zolomon."

Zolomon snorts and looks ready to just bolt, his one ear droops and he speaks." Fine...I...never meet dad  died right before I was born, my mother died when was 7 seasons…..and I..sort of...started wandering a couple seasons.."

Vonda smiles, he is talking more." Did you use to...live at Redwall.  I always wanted to see it."

Kelp yawns as it was getting late.

Zolomon stops,." Let's camp...and…" He sighs. " I can tell you about the abbey." It was not too late but something made him feel uneasy all of a sudden.

Vonda blinks. " But we can be there in less than 2 hours. "

Kelp sat down. "My feet all owie...and it darks.What if...ghosts get us."

Zolomon nods."  No ghosts but...look we rest, my side is sore and maybe we can….ya know late breakfast?"

Vonda frowns." Fine,  besides Papa probally lecture me more if came back at night….and lectures can...wait." She sits. " So….go on with your life story."

Zolomon chuckles a little, the hare maid made him feel relaxed, and he was starting to really like her." Well bally well not my life story, just...a little of it. I was part of a group, with me best…" He stops and a couple tears fall…" friend….the Mossflower Defenders and he was leader."

Kelp tilts his head. " Your eyes leaking."

Vonda gives Kelp a shut up look. She reaches out to lay a paw on Zolomon's shoulder.

Zolomon allowed it and sighs." Xander Winters...a badger, to me..Xandy. That..wildcat that almost killed me...killed Xandy and took Xandy's son, a young badger cub named Oz."

Kelp frowns, he soon though is asleep, which is likely good right now.

Vonda attempts tdd I hug him, he backs off...its ok. "Oh..that's so sad."

Zolomon at first gently pushes her away and then more tears that he tries to wipe away." And….and I ..use to live on Western...s..shores." He doesn't share where, no not yet, she would hate him when he told why he was no longer a part of the mountain. He then just let's more tears come.

Vonda makes sure Kelp is ok and decides to try to hug the other hare again. She speaks." It's ok to cry...it helps to let out emotions, if we keep them in….it only causes more hurt."

Zolomon oddly allows the hug, his first time allowing one in many weeks.He sobs openly and let's the floodgates open.He does quiet and sniffs before backing off.."T..thank you Vonda "

Vonda just nods." Your welcome ..your my friend or least hope so."

Zolomon manages a weak smile." Friends…" It sounded nice to say.

Vonda nods." We should rest, get up at sunrise and get to camp...guess mid morning"

Zolomon nods."Yeah." Then to where hd thought, or maybe he could just wander again, he sighs as he lays down to sleep,  he had no clue as he lets sleep overtake him.

It was a little before sunrise when Vonda woke and blinked, fog didn't usually hurt your eyes.

Kelp wakes up and frowns." What is smell?"

Vonda sniffs the air and frowns, she hurries over to Zolomon. " Zolomon..wake up..please..something is….I don't know." She sounded a little scared.

Zolomon was quickly up and standing and making sure he had his longbow.He had 10 arrows he made as they camped a couple times. His single ear listens, he scans the area,  smells the air." Smoke and...not a campfire. I don't think...unless bonfire, too much haze, that haze is smoke but from...where is the question."

Kelp whimpers a little.

Vonda tested the direction of the air." Downriver maybe? The wind is blowing this way..sort of. I….don't know...kind of.." She gets closer to Zolomon

Zolomon can tell she is afraid as he nods." Stay..close." He leads the way downriver.it takes maybe a little over an hour as he looks up and down the beach shore.

Kelp frowns. " I no like this, I want mommy."

Vonda keeps a hold of Kelp" Its ok, maybe it's just...someone else...camping. "

The smell was stronger, the haze worse as it seemed to travel down shore towards Halyard and Towards Salamandastron,  like some sort of sneak peek of what's to come.

Zolomon frowns. He looks up river." Stay, if you see anyone and I mean anyone unless it's a hare or a very tall badger in a kilt….run upriver." He himself runs upshore. He comes to a halt at the sight before him.

Huts burned to the ground. Sighs of a fight...he frowns as he walks carefully….dead otters and a weasel that he slowly turns over and gasps,he quickly rushes back to Vonda. " We…  need to leave."

Vonda ears droop and she suddenly dashes towards the village.

" Vonda!" Zolomon tells and scoops up Kelp and runs to stop her." Vonda stop, its dangerous...please, they could still be around."

Vonda just sidesteps and runs,her eyes widen as she sees…" No…… no…." She looks around." Papa...Mama!"

Kelp shivers and clings onto Zolomon and starts wailing.

Zolomon holds onto the dibbun and gets to Vonda." We...its not safe here." He has to see a direction. He sits Kelp down.He speeds upshore and slows….many..MANY tracks, he hurries back and points out the  on the weasel.
" Zoltar and his friends were here."

Vonda shivers and goes to bury her face on Zolomon's chest and sobs.

Zolomon frowns, a tear goes down his own face as he hugs her tightly." We….cant stay here….and we can't go upshore. " For now he leads them up river by half a day and sits." We stay here a couple days…"

Kelp sniffs and curls up by a log.

Vonda lets herself be lead and sits down shivering.

Zolomon wraps his cloak around her and sits by her." I can...take you to Salamanstron...you and Kelp will be safe. I can't go in….but you can."

Vonda wipes her eyes." The...Long Patrol?...Papa...spoke of them and the Badger Lord how they protect the shores….wait...your a...Long..Patrol hare?"

Zolomon frowns " No, not...not now" He lays an arm on her shoulder. " It's…..a lo g story but….I will tell you…." He tells the tale of how he joined,  how he gained rank...ans how he had to never wander the halls again.  It takes a good 3 days,  but he talks along, more so than he has in weeks, opening up to her. And…...and maybe even...starting to like her more and more….it some evil beast dare touched a single hair on her, those evil beasts will have a very painful death.

Vonda leans against him, listens and even asks of some of his life around Mossflower , she felt safe with him and was slowly starting to have feelings for him maybe, she was unsure...but she knew she didn't want to be without him at her side.
