Xander- Warrior badger
==Martin makes sure Xander stays outside pf the dark forest...I logged but another person was posing with Martin ****
LOG:
The fog is thick, it flows back and forth around Xander's body, massive, huge curling streamers of thick grey and white cloud. It flows through and around the badgers body. Oddly not as damp as it should be but there is cold too, deep cold that seems to have settled into his bones.
Ahead of him, looming out of the fog the badger would be able to see trees, tall, looming pine-trees, fading in and out of view. But oddly there doesn't seem to be any way through to the forest, there is a huge hedge of tangled vines growing atop a rampart of earth. But ahead of him is a large pair of wrought iron gates.
They are massive and open and ahead of Xander is a rat, grey fur and scruffy looking but walking forward determindly. Just behind them is a vole, old and ancient but smiling softly then coming up on Xander's left is a weasel who glances back and bows to the badger before vanishing through the gates. There is a sort of strange peace, a desire to follow the path and join the others inside the forest.
Xander frowns as he looks around having no clue where he is at first but seeing the gates he gets the idea.He shivers a little as he is cold and it doesn't feel right to be cold, though it's better than burning pain he felt earlier when the cross bolt him and then just numbness and finding it hard to breath. He just feels..cold and maybe a little lost taking a couple slow steps to the gates and reaching out a paw as if unsure of this but there is the urge to follow the others.
A hand is thrust before Xander's body, "Where do you think you are going Xander?" The voice is stern but friendly and the brown mouse it belongs to steps out of the mist and stares up at the badger.
"You are not welcome here yet Xander," The mouse glances back at someone still lurking in the fog and trees of the forest, "You where right, he is nearly ready to walk through...." The mouse squares up, blocking the gate, "But I will not let you enter."
Xander frowns as he looks down at the mouse, studing him a moment as he does look familiar but he can't figure out why yet. "But....why not?" He asks calmly as he is prevented entry to the forest."Aren't I...dead?" He feels cold that's for sure and it's likely a lot warmer on the other side of the mouse,he tries to see who he is talking to but decides not to worry about it.Again the question"Why?"
"You are not dead," A deep voice rumbles from back amongst the trees, it sounds oddly familiar but also at the same time not quite, like a voice Xander used to know very well. The mouse however shakes his head,
"You are not dead, dying yes, but not dead, to enter now.... whilst there is still life in you, wuold be to die and your Son and wife, Redwall need you."
Xander steps back a little, he does focus on the voice but also the mouse again, he frowns"My..sons...Caleb is my son too..."He frowns"Krisha would be...sad..butI feel so cold ."He does tey and pass one more time and then just sits down in front of the mouse, "I am..saved how..." Something then seems to become very clear as his eyes widen, he does know the mouse from the tapestry..."Martin?"
"My name is not important here Xander," The mouse shakes his head, he does look identical to his appearnce on the tapestry, "But you will not pass, we shall not let you."
The mouse gestures, "You need to hold on, to hold yourself true and wait, help will reach you."
Xander tilts his head "We?" He asks quietly and frown, he stays where he is and doesnt try to go past him he is just quiet for what seems like a long while."Is it...my fault..they lost the slavers?"
"No Xander," Martin says, "It is not your fault you lost the slavers," He folds his arms, standing firmly in the center of the gateway, "You had a slim chance of catching them at the shore, but that fox is... wily, the way has been prepared however."
He tilts his head and considers the badger, "And yes we..." Shapes move behind Martin, hidden in the fog, shrouded by the shadows beneath the trees, "But only I will speak to you, least you desire to remain with the others and not return."
Xander looks at the gates again as if debating, maybe they be better off without him but at the same time he knows they not want that.He looks back to the mouse "I...I don't want to die."He sounds tried but at least he stays sitting not trying to go pass him any more."I don't even know if I want to be a warrior anymore..."This near death thing has gotten to him, he was scared when he couldnt breath well and that pain was something he rather avoid happening ever again.
Martin shakes his head, "No ones path is set in stone," he gestured, "Most people forget that I lived in Redwall, quietly as part of the order for the greater part of my life. My days as a warrior ended once the abbey was finished."
A voice rumbles from behind Martin, shrouded in the forest, "Your path is your own Xander, give up the defenders, hang up your sword, live with your wife and children if that is your desire. No one will make you be a warrior"
Xander listens to the voices and to Martin as he hugs his knees to his chest, a small shiver as he is ..maybe oddly colder than ealier. He nods slowly "Maybe...."The Defenders are sort of disbanded but also still around as allies if needed, he has a strong feeling he is likely gonna take a while to recover from that poison, he frowns "I'm...gonna live..right" He sounds a little worried.
Martin holds out a paw, "Who can say, you are still alive at this moment in time Xander, which is why you cannot pass the gates, why we will not let you give up and pass the gates."
He gestures back, "You can walk through the fog and think, or sit here and wait and we will see."
Xander nods slowly "I'll....just stay here."He decides, the fog seems so uninviting, least here is a little better,he could think here.He just sits quietly in thought, its about all he can do right now as his friends get to the very needed help.Once awake he likely will feel worse again, but thats ok he has decided...if he is ment to stay alive, he will stay alive and recover, but how long is recovery gonna take, a question or maybe statement "The slavers..need found, stoped...but my friends can't do it alone, they...they need help. I don't want them here or.."He looks at the gates and frowns "In there....I lost too many friends...and..loved ones..."
Martin smiles, "Then sit Xander, think.... you did not lose them, they are just waiting, behind me.... but now is not your time to join them."
Fog starts to roll out of the gates, to engulf Xander, but Martin's voice remains even as he fades, "Live Xander, live and remember.... you choose your path, the weapon does not choose you."

So Martin won't get his butt kicked by Zee. Good.
I love the line at the end. Very Martin-y
Also, I feel y'all may have had too much fun with the Lord of the Rings reference there...
