In the Dinning Hall - LP 2/15/20

So, thirteen days late posting this RP from February Fifteenth but hey. I'm back from my impromptu break, now; as for where I was, let's just say RL got hectic for a bit. tongue

Lt. Gregorian,
Sgt. Terrence,
and Pvt. Zeldove, hares.

Zeldove frowns and was beginning to wonder why she volunteered for this, oh yeah to be nice and it was to be a couple hours, of torture so far. "Because...its impossible..." The leveret starts wailing, as she sighs and speaks "You're a hare..." Then louder cries and a hiccup from the  leveret as Zeldove looks defeated. The leveret is clearly upset "I wanna be badger when get bigs..." Zeldove just groans, "Ya can't be a..." ...and the response, "Yous mean!!!"

Gregorian is fresh out of a training session and headed for some food. Of course he'd heard the crying child long before he got in the door, he's just relieved it's not the whole lot of them that are upset "Havin' problems Zeldove?" he questions as he's heading towards the food "Why would yah want tah be a badger lad?" he questions the dibbun on his way past.

Arm still in a sling, Terrence was only recently discharged from the infirmary. Sitting across the hall from the wailing leveret and the volunteer he watches the exchange with a rather tired expression before standing and grabbing his half-full mug with his good paw. Just as the sergeant was coming over to try and maybe salvage the situation Greg passes by... "Ah, hello there Lieutenant. And you as well, Zeldove." He looks at her then to the crying young hare and, kneeling down in front of the leveret, asks, "Say, what's you'h name, lad?"

Zeldove nods and gives a salute, "Surs...." The young hare has calmed "I...Bastein....and badgers be tall and strong and 'fraid of nutting..." Zeldove just smooths out her uniform "His parents had to go somewhere couple days so I volunteered to watch him those couple days since I am on Home Guard now"

Gregorian nods once to Terrence as he starts piling up a plate "Sergeant. Enjoyin' yah freedom?" her gives the dibbun a chuckle though and looks down at the tiny hare "Yah know, every bit of that describes a hare too. Yah don't have tah be a badgah tah be big, strong and fearless. I know yah already goin' tah be all those things when yah grow up"

"Bastein?" Terrence repeats to himself, mulling the name over. "Sounds like the old Badgeh Lord's name, Sebastian, doesn't it?" Giving Zeldove a nod to indicate he heard her, the sergeant looks up at Greg with a wry grin. "I certainly am, sah." Turning his attention back to the leveret he adds to what the lieutenant said, "Besides, being a badgeh here means more work than the rest of us, eh? It'd be like chores and school and all that every day. I can't imagine anyone really wanting that, now can I?"

Zeldove decides to get some  lunch, looks like some vegetable soup and rolls, and some fruit. She gets the leveret some lunch too "Ans he likely has a lot of paperwork." The leveret makes a face at paperwork "Why works on papers, that boring..." He smiles at Greg "I  gonna be  warrior and keep all the bad beasts away from the good beasts"

Gregorian takes his plate over to sit with the group and nods long to the mention of paperwork "Oh certainly, the Badgah Lord gets the most papahwork in the mountain. He's always busy too so he doesn't get tah have as much fun as us hares" he chuckles again "Yah'll make a good fightah one day if that's wot yah want tah be"

"He has a point, you know." Terrence laughs as he stands from were he was kneeling. Setting the mug down at Greg's table he looks back at the leveret. "Can't really argue the fact that most of it is boring, but doesn't change the fact badgehs are always saddled with papahwork the most!"

Zeldove nods "And he was in the infirm a week, likely still has a bit of that cold or what ever it was....which reminds me, I am on a mission to get better food brought down to the infirm for anyone thar, be it an illness or injury...cause the food they usually take thar...is ...sorry it's gross even a healer wouldn't eat it and it was offered to them" The younger hare meanwhile smiles "Warrior...hee hee...warriors no do paperwork" This makes Zeldove chuckle and the younger hare then frowns "Warrior do paperworks?" The reply is "Some...but ya get more and more  the higher rank ya are"

Gregorian nods slowly to Zeldove "Workin' too hard that's wot it is. Thankfully he's doin' bettah again now...The food, well, yah best talkin' tah the cooks about that. I might not call their food gross if yah want their help though...It wasn't much different tah the food out here last I was in there for a stay but it's been sometime and the cooks have changed since then" he eats a little and smiles at the dibbun "Maybe a little papahwork but only the officahs get the piles of it"

Terrence, having eaten the infirmary's food for the past two weeks, shrugs. "I wouldn't call it a pleasant experience to eat in there, myself. On that note..." The sergeant goes off to get lunch for himself, coming back with a try balanced precariously in his good paw. He manages to get to the table before anything falls, luckily, and sits across from the lieutenant. "Zeldove," he begins, half-serious, half-joking, "I'd avoid saying anything overly negative about the cooking to the cooks. They're not the most forgiving..." it seems he's speaking from experience.

Zeldove frowns, "Yeah but...I mean beasts are supposed to get better in the infirm, right? Better food, still healthy but have flavor be good, right?" The younger hare seems to get bored and goes to talk to a recruit he sees come in, likely an older sister thats just the right age to be a recruit.

Gregorian is pretty used to the short attention spans of dibbuns when adults are talking so he just watches the them wander off just long enough to be satisfied they're not off to cause trouble. He looks back to the others "Hm, well, some focus more on wot's good for yah ovah taste. Yah can't recovah on cake alone. Used tah be they had a good balance. Medicine always tasted terrible but yah'd have something good tah take the taste off. The newah lot I guess has their own ideahs on wot they think is important...They probably haven't had tah spend time in the infirmary since takin' ovah the kitchens"

"Hmm. So you say..." Terrence mutters, digging into his food. "Honestly, if I didn't have to heah the word 'recovah' again in my life, I'd die a happy hare." The sergeant says rather deadpan as he continues eating. "I'm rathah thankful to be out of thei'h, no mattah the quality of the food."

Zeldove says, "Yeah infirmaries are no fun anywhere really, but needed to heal. I was told a story of a hare that ignored a bad gash to the leg...or side, either way he didn't go to the healers and tended to it himself, it got infected and by the time he DID see a healer...well he died a couple days later cause the injury got that bad"

Gregorian makes a note of agreement as he picks through his food "Mm. I think the memory of the abbey's infirmary ceilin' will be etched intah my mind forevah aftah my extended stay there. I undahstand their importance but if I can help it I'll nevah lie in their beds again"

Rubbing his still bandaged shoulder Terrence nods slowly. "Indeed. I'm lucky to have gotten out so early, though it'll be at least a couple weeks before I can even begin to try and use my arm again..." He snorts. "At least I won't have to spend any more time studying the ceiling as you say, sah."

Zeldove says, "You can catch up on paperwork maybe or do some sort of...light exercise and training, dont they have like recovery exercises?"

"Oh yes, please tell me yah well enough tah catch up on some papahwork" Greg jokes, with a hint of actual hope as it would cut his workload down "...Unless the healahs say yah can't. I don't know how much rest they've got yah on"

"Unfortunately, sah," Terrence does his best at raising his injured arm, "I'm right pawed. So I can't really write anything, unless you'h and the rest of you are fine with unlegible bird-scratches." Leaning back in his seat he lets out a sigh. "There are recommended exercises and the like, and I've been doing those - but thei'h rathah tedious..."

Zeldove hmmms "Well...guess you'rE lucky paper work is...well I rather do other things and Home Guard seems to have more paper work than regular patrol does"

Gregorian clicks his fingers "Drat it...I mean practice yah scratches because it could come tah that" he chuckles before there's a small sigh and he looks back to his food "Yah'll be bettah and back tah wishin' for a break before long" he glances back to Zeldove "Well, yah workin' undah the librarian, if there's anyone who likes papahwork for everythin' undah the sun it's probably him"

Zeldove shrugs "General Quinten isn't that bad...though when he is upset then yeah ...sort of a little scary, even if he does have glasses..." She sighs "Speaking of which I need to finish a report thats due in an hour...excuse me sur" She salutes and heads off to  do that paperwork she mentioned.

Terrence raises an eyebrow at Zeldove's comment. "Does it indeed?" The sergeant scrunches his nose, before both Greg's and Zeldove's words remind him of just who was in charge of her. "Ah. Right. The general does like work like that, doesn't he? You'll be buried soon enough by all it..." Once she leaves, he pokes at his remaining food for a moment or so. "Hmm..."

Gregorian snorts in mild amusement "A hare who surrounds himself with that many books is bound tah be a bit strange" he nods to Zeldove as she leaves and then looks back to his own food, allowing a moment of silence before he finally speaks up again "She seems tah be doin' bettah"

"So it seems!" Terrence replies, finishing what is left on his plate. "Though I can't help but view the transfah as a bit annoying. We have few hares as is in the fighting force..."

Gregorian:shrugs a shoulder "I might not be a permanent thing. Seemed tah start as a way tah straighten her out anyway...It's not like we're marchin' out from the mountain for weeks anymore eithah. I imagine if there's trouble we can get the extah help if needed"

"Well, alright then." Terrence says, "But as fo'h marching out - as soon as I get bettah I plan on taking the recruits and privates and anyone else I can convince to go march fo'h a few days north then back here. Plus, the corporal needs to learn how to lead small squads and all that..."

Gregorian hmms and munches on a little more food "Just don't make it a repeat of the toads, eh? Yah need anythin' for it? At least aside from a stamp of approval tah do it and all that"

There's a moment or two before Terrence responds. "It shouldn't come to that. Really what I need is fo'h every hare - recruits, privates, corporals - to all be kitted out fo'h battle. Speahs, packs, the whole nine yards. I want them to practice marching in formation; hopefully," He adds, quietly, "Even if we run into trouble we'll have an easy time of it..."

Gregorian nods slowly before there's a little snort of amusement "Remind me tah teach yah the hidden tunnel intah the mountain before it's time tah leave. We did somethin' similah when I was a recruit and vermin broke in and took ovah while we were out. Good practice of course. Fightin' in yah own halls"

"I see..." Terrence is rather serious as he speaks, "I'd hope the hares left here would be able to defend this place..." Then his expression shifts to confusion. "How in the world did they get inside? There's only the two - well, three if we're counting you'h secret tunnel - entrances. Maybe a lesson in defense might be needed as well...."

Gregorian shrugs a shoulder "Tah be honest I forget. Took them by surprise with numbahs tah get an advantage then took prisonahs I think. I didn't much concentrate on the tactics back then. I'd like tah think it was a once in several generation event"

"Hmmm." Now pondering how exactly it happened, Terrence rests his good elbow on the table. "I'd imagine if even just ten good fighting hares defended the gates the vermin would have a bad time of it... If they didn't do anything like sortie out the mountain o'h whatnot."

Gregorian scratches his whiskers as he's thinking "Well, if the recent incident with the ferret shows anythin' it's that when vermin tah prisonahs it makes the situation very complicated. Yes, good hares can fight of a lot but if they've caught one of our own they can't exactly charge in"

Terrence nods. "I suppose not, sah. Of course, I'd argue keeping hares from going alone places might be the best defense against that... The ferret prisonah was an odd case and honestly a mistake on my part to bring him heah. I certainly didn't expect a captain to be too careless with him..."

Gregorian shakes his head slowly as he finishes off his food "Yah can't protect against the world. There are goin' tah be times when a hare is alone. If I had tah go everywhere with a recruit stuck tah my side I'd probably hand myself tah the vermin" he chuckles before turning serious again "...The ferret was a slavah though. It won't have been the first time he took someone. It would have been good tah get more information about where these beasts he's caught have been sent...If it were up tah me we'd still be patrollin' Halyard tah keep this stuff out"

"That was my goal," Terrence lets out a sigh, "To question the vermin. But I didn't get the chance and neithah did anyone else, it seems."

Gregorian shakes his head again "There'll be more vermin involved and most of them won't tell yah a thing or they'll lie through their teeth. Don't take it too hard, he probably won't have given yah anythin' useful"

"Maybe, but I still feel we should've tried..." Terrence begins to stand, waving recruit over to take his dishes as he's not all that confident in carrying them one-pawed. "Anyway, sah, I'll have to take my leave now. I need some fresh ai'h!" With that, the sergeant leaves.
