SCENE: Salamandastron Kitchens
LOG:
The leverets, led by the notorious DAB, have somehow escaped their captors....I mean, the leveret caretakers. They feel hungry, so they have decided to visit (read: raid) the kitchens in search of a snack. They have managed to avoid all the adults and, upon arriving in the kitchens, have discovered a lack of adult supervision in here, as well. The leverets scatter, opening cabinets and jars, eating anything that looks edible. There are even fruit pies on a counter! Julia (Felicity's baby sister), however, looks worried. "I no so sure dis is okay," she whimpers. "Lissie gonna get mad." When none of the other leverets pay her any heed, she pouts, then smiles as a 'brilliant' idea comes to mind. "I knows! I'ma ask a /adult/!" And so she headed down to the catacombs to get the only adult she knows the whereabouts of: Dominik. "/Dooooo-mmmyyyyy/," she calls as she wanders around. "I needs you /'elp/."
Dominik had continued to dwell down in the catacombs, the large hare finding the area to be a perfect combination of quiet and solitude. He'd been a generally solitary buck before everything had occurred, and now with all that had happened it had simply made things worse, and had made Dom generally unbearable to be around for more than a few minutes at a time due to his wildly unpredictable emotional swings. But the one thing he did look forward to were the daily visits from the leverets (whether or not their parents knew what they were up to is a different story), and whenever he'd heard their voices calling him, his expression would light up and he'd be right there at the entrance to his alcove, waiting to meet them. Currently, the buck is slumped over with his head resting upon his arms, eyes half closed as he drifts in and out of a light doze. His large ears immediately shoot up as he catches the sound of his name being called, his head lifting off his arms as he pushes himself up to his footpaws, and lumbers over towards the entrance. Lifting a paw to rub his eyes sleepily, he peers down at Julia as she wanders by. "...Jools," he replies, his voice quiet yet still possessing that booming quality that rattles ones' bones if close enough. "...is here. Vat...is needing...?"
One of the small hares comes walking into the room, dragging a blanket behind them and sucking their thumb, they look around and tilts their head. It's clear they are not yet at the age of talking and who was watching this kid who just sits down in the middle of the kitchens and looks around, then giggles.
Grace, daughter to Greg and maker of trouble, knows exactly what she wants now they've found the kitchen empty and that is the candied chestnuts. The question was where had the cooks hidden them this time because they seemed to move them around on a top secret rota. She was convinced they had decoy jars too as she opens a pot only to be disappointed by flour. A little pouty frown and she looks around as she absentmindedly leaves the pot of flour on the floor as she's distracted in her search and she pays it no attention as it tips over and spills.
Smiling up at the huge hare, Julia clasps her paws behind her and twists on the balls of her feet in a very cute manner. "We wevewets 'ave decided we's /'ungry/ an' wants a /snacks/, but I no sure 'tis a good /idear/, so's I's wond'rin's ifs /you/ coulds come an'...an' lets us knows if we's bein' /bad/ or somethin'." She holds out a paw so she can lead him to the kitchen. Meanwhile, the leverets have found the pies, as well as the honey, jam, hot peppers, dried apples, and lettuce. They mostly just eat the pies. A happy cry goes up from one corner as they discover the day-old cookies, scones, and biscuits. Jackpot!
Dominik stares down at Julia as she makes her case, and of course it doesn't take very long before the massive hare makes his decision. As she holds out her paw to him, he reaches down and very gently takes it into his very large paw, making sure not to smoosh it in his grip. A large grin brightens up his normally dour features, and he nods his head to her. "Kay. Can do this. Has not been...up...since...getting here. Is...hungry, too. Let us go, leetle Jools." With that, Dom lumbers beside Julia, making his way up in the direction of the kitchens. "Cannot let...leetle vuns starve." As they enter the kitchen, the large hare's gaze slowly looks around the kitchen, and the chaos that is already ensuing. He grins down at Julia, his large ears waggling in delight.
The smallest hare, the one with the blanket finds the hot pepper and tries one, they make a face and dump them all on the floor And then they find a jar of apple sauce and hides under a table with the jar, eating the contains of the jar as they watch the , likely soon to be chaos of the room.
Grace leaves a little trail of flour footprints in her wake as she goes from cupboard to cupboard, taking a cookie on the way before she starts trying to climb up on to the counters. She's struggling to get up when Dom appears and she grins, dropping back to the ground "Dom! We gots all the food yah can evah eat!"
Julia dances/skips beside the big white hare, humming a happy song as they head back up to the kitchens. When they reach it and see all the chaos, her worried frown returns. "I don't fink dis is good..." she murmurs, then releases Dom's paw, tugs her doll out of her belt and hugs it close, and walks over to the leverets who have the cookies. Grabbing one, she absently munches it while she looks around at the mess. "Um, uh, Gwace, /may/be y'should cwean y'feet, maybe," she says, pointing to the flour footprints and trying to be as unoffensive as she can manage. Grabbing another cookie, Julia watches worriedly as a group of leverets starts pulling out drawers and using them as steps to get up to the top of the counters. Where they immediately spill a jar of dried basil.
Dominik's smile widens even more as he sees Grace there. "Hello, leetle Grace." Seeing that the leveret is struggling to get where she's trying to go, he ambles over and gives her a boost up onto the counter. Seeing the other leverets using the drawers as steps, he moves over to each and every one and helps them all up onto the counters. Such a helpful adult, he is! Noting the flour footprints that Grace has left behind, Dom's eyes slowly narrow in thought, as he trundles over and walks through the flour, himself. He reaches over and picks up one of the unopened bags, and lets it fall to the floor. As it hits the ground and bursts open with a fwoompf! it sends flour swirling everywhere, and Dom trods through it himself, leaving even bigger footprints as he moves around. "Leetle vuns!" he points at the flour all over the floor. "Vant to be...zis...'fluffy'...all white....like Dom...can do this, now!" He seems proud of the fact that he figured this out, himself. "Can look like Dom!" He sits down on the floor in front of the busted open bag of flour, reaching down and getting it all over himself.
The one hiding under the table is all covered in apple mush and giggles as she crawls over towards Domink, this is funny, she slips at the white flour and giggles even more so and smiles, this is fun, this is silly, she is happy.
Grace grins as Dom easily lifts her up on to the counter where she can continue her search "Thank y'Dom" he says in a sing song voice but she pauses when Julia speaks to her "Huh?" she looks down at her feet and sees the flour she's treading around for the first time...She shrugs "But this way I can see where I've looked" or at least she could until Dom released the white cloud from it's bag. She eeps in surprise and coughs a little as the flour settles but the moment Dom mentions being white and fluffy like him she perks up straight, her grin growing huge! She's back down off the counter in a split second and suddenly right next to the big hare "I do! Me! I wants t'be fluffy an' white!" she's practically bouncing in place from the excitement.
Julia frowns and hides behind a big jar, brow furrowing. On one hand, she's /pretty/ sure her sister will be the opposite of approving of this escapade, /especially/ the mess. On the other hand, Dominik's an /adult/, and adults can't /possibly/ do anything wrong, right? Biting her lip, she hugs her doll close and stays where she is, managing to grab some more cookies and chomp them worriedly. The other leverets scream with delight as Dom helps them up, but then most of them follow Grace back down and start romping around in the flour, echoing her desire to look like their gigantic friend.
Dominik reaches over and picks up the flour bag, which still has quite a bit of flour held within it. As Grace makes her way back over to him and hops up and down excitedly at the prospect of being white and fluffy like they had previously discussed, the large hare upends the bag right over the top of the leveret, getting her nice and covered in flour! He sneezes as a result, sending up a cloud of flour around him, and he grins down at the small leveret who had crawled over from under the table. He scoops up some flour with a paw and dumps it on her as well, and as most of the other Dibbuns congregate around the hare, he laughs in delight, the sounds booming throughout the kitchen. He begins to pick up pawfuls of flour, tossing them lightly at the small hares surrounding him, and he lifts his head and sees Julia and her worried frown. He lifts a flour-covered paw and waves her over to him. "Jools, is fun! Come over, join Dom. Be fluffy!"
The smallest one giggles as it seems to snow down flour onto her head, She giggles and sneezes when it gets up her nose.
Grace opens her paws wide and stands directly under the bag of flour as it's dumped on her and she quickly finds out why this is a bad idea! She splutters as it goes up her nose and she sneezes repeatedly. Four sneezes in a row and she just about has control of her nose. She squints out of floury eyes and shakes some of the excess flour off before she rubs it in to her eye "M'all fluffy now!" she sounds victorious! But also like she might be regretting the method.
Julia's frown deepens as she sees the flour treatment in full effect. A lot of the leverets are sneezing, and one starts to cry as he gets flour in his eye. "You /sure/ dat a good idear, Dommy?" She asks innocently. One of the older leverets has managed to block every single doorway with a chair so no one can get in. He nods in satisfaction at his job well done, then dives into the flour with Dom and the others! Meanwhile, the leveret caretakers have panicked! Almost all of the leverets, missing! They have sent the message to Felicity, Gregorian, and all the other family members of the leverets who still have family. Felicity has a sneaking suspicion of where they leverets may be. She checks the catacombs first (obviously), then goes to check the dining hall. But before she can get there, she hears Dom's huge, booming laugh from the kitchen. Stealthily, sneakily, silently, she goes to open the kitchen door.....and sighs heavily when it sticks fast. Great. Just great. She stands there for quite a number of minutes, trying to decide if it's worth it disrupting whatever Dominik is doing. I mean, he sounds so /happy/. But the leverets are in there. She can hear them. Heaving another heavy sigh, she loudly jiggles the door handle and shouts, "Oi! Open th'door, wot! We need t'be able t'eat t'night!"
Dominik gives Julia a floury smile. "Yas. Is good idea..." Hearing the leveret crying as he gets flour in his eye, Dom sighs. "No, is doing wrong. Not get in eye, eye already white!" He chuffs in frustration. How could he not know that? It was so simple! "Now eye is red." He glances up and sees all the doors blocked with chairs, and his expression shifts a little to more of a concerned one. "Dat...is not good idea." He seems to be well aware of the fact that with the doors being blocked, it'll make the situation seem much more serious than it is. And then, he hears Felicity's voice from the other side of the door. His ears perk up in alarm, eyes widening as he takes a look around the room, and its currently disheveled state...the worst part being the entire floor and most surfaces covered in flour. He sighs, shoulders slumping as he lifts a paw and points it at the door she is trying to enter. "...go, move chair..." he rumbles to the Dibbun that had put the chair there in the first place. "...vil be in much trouble if...can't get in. Can be trusting vith this." At this point, the smallest of the leverets crawls into his lap and ends up falling asleep there. Dom blinks, staring down at her with a helpless expression.
The smallest dibbun is, just cute and covered in flour and seems to have no worries about Dom at all as she sleeps in his lap without a care, and her blanket held loosely in her paw still.
Gregorian's only reaction to learning his daughter and all the other dibbuns are missing is to sigh, gather a bag of tools from the forge and go looking. He's sure they're not actually in trouble but they will be when he finds them. He's quiet, focusing on listening for the sound of giggling until he hears Felicity yelling. There's a safe bet that's where they are "They in there then?" Grace ends up with some in her eye too, it's hard to avoid when the flour is everywhere! She doesn't cry, she does rub at it but aside from a little cough she tries to enjoy her newfound colour change and kicks the flour about as she stomps...and then suddenly she grins at Julia "Y'don't look white enough yet" she says as she advances towards the dibbun, arms outstretched with the threat of a floury hug...she freezes when she hears voices at the door, her grin disappearing instantly.
Felicity sighs again, nodding to the Smith. "Aye, as fah as I c'n tell. An' o' /course/ Dom's in thehre, too. 'Cause o' /course/. Why not?" She jiggles the handle again. "I'll deal wi' Dom an' m'sistah. OI! OPEN TH'DOOR!" The leverets have all helpfully frozen, barely daring to breathe. A few start to cry (especially the ones with the flour in their eyes). The one who put the chairs at the doors looks between Dom and the door, then runs to the one that opens into the dining room, jerks the chair away, and escapes through into the dining room, closing the door behind him! That makes a few more leverets start crying. As Grace advances on her, Julia backs up, throwing an arm over her face. "No, nos, I nos /wants/ t'be whites, I /wikes/ bein' wike dis!" Hearing her sister's voice, Julia does the one logical thing: she curls in a ball on the floor around her little doll and cries.
Dominik is generally helpless at this point in time. For one, Felicity had already heard his voice, and so naturally assumed him to be present there, so it isn't as if he could really hide anyplace. And even if he could, he had very few options to do so, due to his massive size. Hearing all the crying around him, Dom sighs, his ears slowly folding against the back of his head as his gaze once again drifts down to the leveret asleep in his lap. A tiny little smile tugs at the corners of his muzzle for a brief moment as he watches her sleep, then he lifts his gaze again to the door that had been freed from the constraints of the chair that had previously been blocking it. He motions for Grace to join him, reaching over to gently tug Julia over towards him as well. If they were going to get in trouble for this, he was not going to hang his little friends out to dry...he'd remain right there with them. "...hey. Psst. Jools. Do not cry. See? Look. Is face." Dom does his best to make a silly face to try and cheer the leveret up. "Myeah!" he sticks his tongue out and crosses his eyes. He then shifts his gaze back towards the door, watching it to see who ends up entering the kitchen. Upon entering, they will see Dom seated there on the floor in the middle of the kitchen, the entire room coated in a layer of flour, himself and the Dibbuns that surround him, included. The cupboards are open, jars smashed here and there in various places, and various bits of other foods litter the floor.
Grace stays staring at the door for a minute. They're in so much trouble..."We gots tah tidy everythin' up!" she suddenly panics and picks up a jar to try and get it up on the counter. There's no way they'd be able to tidy all this and she gives up instantly when Dom calls her over "...We says it was an accident" she mutters and quickly goes to join the big hare instead, trying to sit on his lap. Greg is weirdly fine. Sometimes he's the bringer of wrath and yelled lectures. Sometimes he's just the long suffering dad just trying to keep up with his daughter. He sighs heavily and gestures for Felicity to back up "Alright, lets get this open so they can stay in there doin' dishes until they're old enough tah retire" he grumbles as he sets to work taking the pins out of the door's hinges within seconds and letting the door fall outside the room on to the floor. He stares at Dom once it's open, his paw yightening slightly "Do yah all want tah explain yahselves?" he asks, his voice raising slightly louder.
Julia lets Dom tug her close to him, but stays curled up in a ball, clutching her dolly close and crying. "Lissie gonna be so /mad/," she whimpers, curling up even tighter. Felicity backs up, sighing. "Aye, sounds good." When the door finally bangs open, she just stares at the mess, noting how her sister seems strangely un-involved this time. The Sargeant tries to make eye contact with Dom. She looks a little disappointed, and also happy that he's somewhere other than the catacombs. She then looks back at the mess and sighs again. Great. Just great.
Dominik gathers Grace up into his lap as she climbs up, and he places her next to the Dibbun that is currently asleep there. He keeps a paw resting lightly on her shoulders, in a gesture that is more comforting than anything else. As Greg enters first, then Felicity, Dom's ears remain flat upon his head. His eyes fall upon Greg first, the large hare's jaw clenching a little. "Vas hungry. Vent to get foods. Got foods." There. Simple enough, yeah. "Foods...did not vant to come vith." His eyes then meet Felicity's as she makes eye contact with him, and the hare doesn't lower his gaze at all, willing to take the blame for his part in the whole thing. "Vas...my idea. Leetle vuns play along. Vanted foods, Dom say he gets for thems. Do not punish thems. Vas...Dom's fault..." he replies, his voice steady, despite the chaos in the room, the Dibbuns in his lap and the various other crying leverets spread throughout the kitchen. He reaches down a paw, picking up another pawful of flour and letting it slowly drift down to the ground, eyes turning to watch it fall.
Gregorian folds his arms as he stares down at the group. Grace is trying to look small and blend in with all the floury whiteness as her father gives Dom a look "Like hell it was yah ideah. Yah haven't come upstairs in weeks..." which perhaps makes it worth the mess. Though the cooks may not agree. They were all looking very peaceful sat on the floor, it was hard to summon the anger. He glances at Felicity with a sigh before raising his voice "Alright! I don't care who's ideah this was yah all get tah clear it up...and yah all havin' a bath" he points at Dom "And don't think that doesn't include yah. Yah can help them fix this place and get them cleaned up"
Julia stops crying as her big friend takes all the blame, but she decides to not say anything right now. Felicity scowls. "Oh, I doubt 'twas y'idea, Dom. Y've been in th'catacombs since we brought y'back." She looks over the kitchen, then backs up the Lietenent's order of sorts. "Aye, th'lot o'y'get t'clean this up, then I will /personally/ escort /all/ o'y't'th'baths. Now get crackin'!" One of the leverets stands and tells which one of them put the chairs in the way. The Sergeant sighs. "Oh, I'll 'ave a word wi' 'im, too. 'E's th'age t'be a Recruit, almost. May'ap we can make i'm join early..." she muses. The leverets sall stand and mill about, picking up things that are on the floor, although they have no idea how to clean up the flour. Julia stands, still sniffling, only half of her covered in flour since she was only dragged through it, and even that wasn't her fault. Tears well up in her eyes. Felicity scoops her up, then looks down at Dom. "...d'y' 'ave any idea 'ow t'clean up flour? 'Cause I sure don't."
Dominik gives a quiet nod of his head at Greg's order, then when Felicity follows it up with a similar order, the buck gently deposits the Dibbuns that had been in his lap on the floor beside him. He rises back up to his full height, flour still drifting and floating about as he further disturbs the stuff already all over him. "...vil figure out," he replies, quietly. "Get clean, clean kitchen. Get rid...of flours." He glances back to Felicity. "Told leetle vuns could be vhite, like Dom. Is vhy, flours is...all over. Thought vas best way to do." The large hare is seemingly more like his old self at the moment, for whatever reason, no mention of Erg at all...his eyes are generally clear and lacking that cloudiness they'd contained previously. He shuffles over towards the nearest broom, and begins to slowly try and sweep up the mess. It...isn't the most successful method, the large hare seemingly making a bigger mess as he trails flour all over the place, wherever he goes. Suddenly, a large cloud of flour rises into the air as the large hare sneezes. "Ahh-CHOOOO!" He blinks, standing there with a look of amusing surprise upon his face.
Grace seems to take this as getting off easy and slowly slips off of Dom's lap to move a little further away so she can blend in with the crowd of dibbuns cleaning up and moping that their fun has been spoiled. Greg shakes his head and takes a step back to pick the door back up and work on getting it back in place out of the way.
Felicity nods, smiling wearily at her friend. "Well, it makes sense. May'ap we c'n try it in a different mannah someday." Setting Julia down, the Sergeant watches the Dibbuns pick up all the random things, (although she picks up the broken glass). Julia grabs a rag and starts cleaning up applesauce from under the table, obviously in well practice to do that. Felicity sneezes at the same time Dom does, and the maiden glances up at him. "Um....maybe..." She looks around, then grabs 2 dust pans. "May'ap try scoopin' it int' 1 o' these, then dump it an' start agin." She's just guessing.
Dominik is seemingly caught off-guard that they hadn't gotten in more trouble than what they seemed to be in, though the large hare certainly does not complain as he goes about beginning to try and clean up the flour as best he can with the method Felicity suggested. After a short while of this, and just some general cleaning and tidying up, the kitchen is halfway back to normal once again. At this point, Dom glances down at the leverets who are still hovering around his footpaws, doing their best to help clean up. "Hmm. Is thinking, only can be Dom for leetle bit of time. Then, has to turn back...to leetle vuns, yes?" This seems to be his way of saying that it is indeed bathtime. "Leetle vuns are best thing to be." He reaches down in an attempt to pick up Julia, to place the leveret on his shoulder much as he'd done long before the swamp incident. He glances back over at Felicity, head tilting as if the buck is making sure that it is okay to pick her up. He seems to understand how important she is to Felicity.
It takes her a few seconds, but Felicity grasps his meaning and nods. "Aye, 'tis time f'r all th'little Doms t'become leverets again." A couple Dibbuns wail, but most just go along with it, simply happy that they're not in lots of trouble. Julia lets the huge buck pick her up and goes to cling to his head. After a few moments of looking at his face, Felicity smiles and goes to rest a paw on his arm. "I'm glad y'back, Dom," she says quietly. He's obviously not all the way back to normal, but he made a lot of progress today. She then turns to the leverets and starts to shepherd them out of the kitchen.
Dominik seems quite pleased as Julia settles onto his shoulder and wraps her paws around his head. The smile upon his muzzle is a genuine one, and it appears to be more than obvious that above all else, Dom certainly cares for the leverets. Perhaps that is part of what is beginning to slowly and gradually bring him back...it certainly did not hurt in the least, anyway. As Felicity meets his gaze and places a paw on his arm, he gives her a nod of acknowledgement. It's somewhat hard to take the giant, flour-covered buck seriously when he is...covered in flour...but, he is doing his best to do what he thinks is the right thing to do. "...is...back?" he asks, softly, head tilting. "Vere...did go?" He pauses, blinking, as he watches Felicity leading the other leverets out of the room. Giving a shrug after a moment, he begins to follow after, Julia perched on his shoulder.
Felicity guides the leverets and Dom up to the baths, Julia managing to fall asleep as they go. But the Sergeant isn't worried. She trusts Dom with the Dibbuns. Don't ask her why. She just knows they'll be safe with him. She doesn't answer his question for now. Maybe when he's not so close to the crazy. And she'll make sure to get Greg to help her talk with the caretakers and cooks to not punish the leverets and Dom more. A bath is enough for the DABers, anyway....
