LOG:
Patch made sure all was good, all was well and hate do NOT burn the rolls like good grief what is wrong with thus staff he has, maybe he should fire the one weasel.
Xander watches Patch and frowns "Just...relax, all is good today, it's gonna be great"He smiles wide.
Ferro walks into the tavern and looks around, he has ventured out more finally as the weather is good now, "Thisssss looksss nice."
Blisa walks over to Xander and Patch, Ferdinand and Clarissa trailing behind her. The bodyguards have polished the buttons on their new uniforms as well as their weapons, and the Chieftain is wearing a shirt whose cap sleeves show off the adder tattoo on her left arm. "Is everything ready?" She asks cheerily, not seeming ruffled by the weird pressure of having a fellow leader whom she's known her whole life visiting.
The sound of the approaching abbey party is hard to miss, the Abbot does not travel lightly, several of the scouts leading the way and breaking trails through the thick, gorgeous early summer forest have been waiting at the edge of the village for the last hour.
Now however the abbot's group is starting to emerge from the trees and make their way toward the entrance of the village. The abbot is about four beasts back, the soft chiming of the abbot's staff audible over the tramp of feet and hubbub of talking beasts. Walking besides the Abbot is Champion Matilda and several members of the order.
Behind the order beasts are the wagons containing the camping gear, tents, marquee and furniture of the Abbot's group as well as their food supplies and the gifts given to them by the otters of camp willow and the several small communities they visited during the trip from the river to the village.
Matilda calls out an order to halt and the guards at the front stop at the edge of the village and Benar walks forward with the champion at his side, the sword of Martin the warrior hanging from her belt. The Abbot pauses at the edge of the village and bows to Blisa.
"Chieftain Blisa, I give you greetings this day from the order of Redwall Abbey and ask permission for my little retinue," he looks back at his entourage with a rye smile and gives Matilda a knowing look. She ignores him, she wasn't about to let the Abbot wander off on his own. The abbot turns back to Blisa and smiles, holding out his hands in greetings.
"It would be our pleasure to visit your town in the spirit of friendship and peace that our two communities walk together in."
Patch nods "Ummm....believe so ya bosslady and the weather is nice." Patch even decided to look nice today. He will behave today.
Gorvenalus stays close to the Abbot and nods a greeting to the Chieftain and a smile.
Ewan was in the back but he does venture forwards a little ways. He is in his uniform and he stands at attention but doesn't speak yet or go any further, just stays close to the abbot and the champion.
Xander nods as he speaks to Blisa just before the Abbot and the abbey beasts come "All is about as ready as it can be"He says, yeah the tavern was ready so why not open it when the abbot was to come visit, it seemed like a good idea to him.
Ferro had been in the tavern already, a few beasts had been but not too many so far.
Blisa nods at the tavern beasts. "Excellent. Oh, I hear them now!" She darts over to greet the Abbot's processional, her bodyguards following with all the rest of her bodyguards (sans Basilisk, who's in her cellar right now shedding his skin) melting out of the crowd to stand around her. She watches the procession come to a halt and smiles as the Abbot comes up to her. Bowing in return, she warmly goes to take his paws. "You are most absolutely welcome, Benar! You may leave your camping supplies in the warehouse for the duration of your stay." She goes to lead the group through the gates, some of the residents hiding or removing signs that proclaim the Abbot's visit and a warning of dire punishment for any who attack his party, with an explanation of the peace treaty between the Abbey and Ferravale. He doesn't need to see any of that, right? The Ferravalians don't necessarily cheer, but the atmosphere is welcoming.
Benar smiles and embraces Blisa whilst she is holding his paws and can't escape, he leans back, holding her shoulders, "It is a pleasure to see you." he says before letting her drag him through the streets.
Matilda frowns, she spots some of those signs and remains quite close to the Abbot, motioning Ewan to stay close to her as well, she's a wary hedgehog right now and having a Long Patrol trained warrior as her back up is a good idea in her mind.
Benar however is too busy looking around at everything, waving at beasts who are crowding around to catch a glimpse, the bell atop his staff ringing and chiming as he moves along. He seems quite thrilled to be there and slows down to shake hands and smile at every beast, be they woodlander or vermin or bird.
"It is my delight to be here, thank you all for the warm welcome and for our continuing friendship," he glances back at the wagons and crooks a finger, "There is one item I won't put into storage, I hear tell that your new tavern is ready to open it's door but no tavern is complete in Mossflower unless it has a stock of October Ale."
Patch is indeed curious of the ale, some do like it and some do not but there is still the some, him included"That could be a very nice item to have in stock yes."
Gorvenalus chuckles at the rat and looks around. He is not too concern with the village really, though he has been here maybe...once, briefly.
Ewan frowns "Stay...close..k"He will pay attention to the Champion but he may look around on his own if he gets a chance still, for now he stays by the Champion and looks around from where he is.
Xander smiles and nods "It will be welcomed, by some"He still is unsure how he will handle owning a tavern, well its a wait and see sort of thing it looks like, so far...so good.
Blisa actually likes hugs, so it's not a big deal. She watches closely as the Abbot interacts with her villagers, who seem to be relaxing slightly. Right, they helped stop a horrible invasion together, the Abbey has provided them with supplies in the past, they're allies. Okay. A couple of blackbirds cackle together over something, but they seem happy for the party atmosphere that's growing in the square here. Some Ferravalians offer to help take the supplies to the warehouse as the Chieftain looks over the October Ale. "Why, thank you, Benar. Your generosity is much appreciated." She lets Xander and Patch figure out when and how to get it into the tavern. Her bodyguards stay close, vigilant as always.
Benar smiles and looks around the square, "It is quite different from when I last saw it Blisa, you should all feel proud that you have made such a community over the seasons." he turns slowly and then returns his gaze to the Chieftain, "It is quite nice to see Ferravale, it has been too long since I got out of the abbey and visited our friends and allies, I brought some more personal gifts for yourself as well my dear."
Gorvenalus smiles "Its a good day out as well today, and its nice to visit indeed the Abbot is right." Patch meanwhile looks thrilled to just get the ale to the tavern "I should....get this inside somewhere safe."
Ewan says, "I like Ferravale...now Halyard is....yeah not sure if be good to have a good visit to much and surely not near the docks""
Xander says, "You should try and get out of the abbey more often Benar,...I mean not like a lot but maybe once in a while, well more often than you do now and you can always have someone escort you around the village or woods, like if you need clay at the river""
Ferro knows he is making some of the abbey beasts uneasy so he starts to slip off, he stops as one mouse maid looks at him and seems curious and then the monitor smiles and makes them back up a little, he sighs and looks to Blisa "I will be in my forge....." He walks off.
"Okay, Ferro...." Blisa sighs. "Drat. I was hoping he'd stay." Turning to the Abbot, she smiles. "Oh, really? Well, mayhap you can present them after we officially open our brand new tavern!" Standing slightly taller at the compliments, she leads the way over, turning to Xander. "And you're right, Xander, the Abbot should come visit more. I'm sure there would be plenty of guards who would enjoy going out into the forest with him." She raises an eyebrow and tilts her head at the tavern. Is it ready?
Benar laughs and gives Xander a look, "I am not allowed to wander to the river for clay anymore, not since I got kidnapped, I send a novice or two these days."
Matilda shakes her head, "Don't encourage him to wander off master Xander, the Abbot's person is too important to risk him wandering off on his own."
Benar waves his tail at the hedgehog, "Calm yourself, I am not about to wander off, but maybe a trip like this could be a yearly event," he then turns back to Blisa and points at the bell tower, "I would love to hear your bell ringing at some point as well whilst I am here and to have a look around the forge and talk to Ferro, he is always good company, but for now don't let me get in the way of your grand opening."
Patch looks over and hmmms "Tavern...Tavern is open now ya all can go there."Yeah lets be more interested in the ale and getting it safe and sound to the tavern.
Gorvenalus smiles, he will remember to write some things down later of the visit, he just recently wrote down of things at the Camp Willow.
Xander sighs at Patch he will chat with him later, "The tavern has been ready for bout an hour...maybe a small few been inside so far and it looks really nice and ready for visitors."
Lacota finds this all deadly dull, but vermin beasts do love their ale, so he remains quiet.
Blisa nods and forces her ears to not flatten. How did she miss that the tavern was already open? She must be more stressed than she thought about making sure the Abbot's visit goes well. "Perfect! Shall we?" She goes to lead the Abbot, Champion, and a few others into the tavern. Ferdinand and Clarissa stay near the Chieftain while the rest of the bodyguards melt back into the crowd. The cat should be fine. Unless there's confetti. Then she might pouf up.
Benar smiles, watching the tavern be opened up, "It's always nice to see something your community have been building together open up, congratulations Blisa."
Laughing warmly and allowing himself to be ushered along toward the Tavern, Benar pauses as a sparrow flutters down out of the sky causing Matilda to jump and clap her hand to the hilt of her sword before she realizes who it is. The abbot accepts the letter they hold out to him and invites the sparra to join his group, the sparra shakes her head and departs, launching herself back into the sky, not wishing to hang around so many ground-worms it seems.
"I wish they'd warn us before they swooped in like that," Matilda grumbled but relaxed as Benar patted her on the arm.
"Calm down Matilda dear, we are amongst friends and safe here," he turns to Blisa, the envelope in his hands forgotten for now, "So Blisa, do we get to see inside your lovely new tavern?"
He lets himself be led along, inside, opening the envelope as he walks along, "It's a lovely building, so is Xander running it with Mister Patch?" he is reading his letter as he chats and then suddenly freezes in the doorway, his tail sways down toward the ground, "Uhm... yes... it's a lovely tavern... can I sit down a moment Blisa please? I've walked a long way to get here..."
Patch gets some Ferravale beasts to help him get the ale inside as he grins "Excuse me...good ale is coming through...yeah Stripy...errr...Xander owns it and I co own it...." The rat is in a good mood now. Yeah lets get to the back and...put away ale, ya.
Lacota immediately senses something is amiss. He knows Benar far too well, and he's at the Abbot's side within moments. "Is something the matter, friend?"
Gorvenalus notices Benar sort of tense up "You ok Benar?" He stays by the abbot and looks around the tavern "I do like the design of the tavern, very nice...maybe slightly larger than the other one, though was never inside the other one"
Ewan walks in and glaces around. He hasn't noticed the abbot be a little worried about what ever the letter is, he didn't see the sparrow either, good thing it was a sparrow and not some dangerous beast. He sits down and hmmms"Interesting place...not like most tavern may see in a vermin village, its nice"
Xander shakes his head at Patch and walks over "Patch...behave we have the abbot here" He shakes his head again and looks around. Grand opening day and he is nervous..a little, he tried to plan it sort of well, ok he could of done better but hey its open and its nice and there will be a simple lunch. He also made sure the fighting pits are not open yet, those will wait till after the Abbot's visit, so some vermin of the village may not be here, some peek inside and venture in though.
There was no confetti, but Blisa poufs up, anyway. "Yes, of course," she gestures at the nearest table, and Ferdinand kindly pulls out a chair for the Abbot to sit on. "What's wrong, Benar? I know this isn't about your walk," she adds perceptively, putting all the pieces she knows together and glaring slightly at the letter in the squirrel's paws. Clarissa glances at Ferdinand, then politely addresses the compliments herself. "Why, thankee, mateys! We're right proud o' our tavern. Marek made sure 'twould be a nice one. An' we're plannin' on 'avin' the best grub we can!" This is mostly directed towards the hare, but the others can hear it, for sure. The rat is kind of loud at times.
Benar looks up and touches Lacota's arm in thanks for his company and turns toward the table Blisa has choosen for them in the tavern, patting Gorvenalus as he passes further inside, "Yes... just some news from home but now isn't the time my friends..." he lowers his voice to them both and the Chieftan and murmurs something quietly.
"Oz is in a ....a coma" The abbot whispers to just Blisa,Lacota, Gorvenalus and Matilda.
"Now I just need to sit down, I've clearly been overdoing the walking, Let's get Patch to broach some of that October Ale and get the Chieftan a drink of it!" he pulls himself up and turns on the Abbot charm once more, sliding his public facade back into place and turning a smile at the feline leader of Ferravale,
"This is a beautiful feature of your community, thank you for allowing us to be here for it's open day," he settles into a chair and smiles around the room before raising his voice for Xander, "It is very homely Xander, I am sure you will all do great business here."
Patch grins and gets some ale out for the guests as well as something to eat "Of course this place is gonna be great, beasts been waiting forever for this place ta open!"
Gorvenalus listens quietly as Benar speaks and nods slowly, he keeps his smile though, he should and the rat does make him chuckle some to cover up the news he just overheard, he will see what the abbot wants to do, for now just..try to relax.
Ewan says, "I might come here and see how good the food is"He smiles, he is a hare of course he wants to sample food from places "I can let others know how good it is..right?"
Xander smiles"I try"If he knew the news he would not be smiling but he doesn't so his mood is good as he chuckles at Ewan "Just don't go overboard sampling the food Ewan."
Lacota stifles a gasp. In truth, he had been expecting and dreading this kind of news for some time, but still, it comes as a sort of sucker punch to the gut. The squirrel frowns, and remains silent, mulling it over in his head.
Blisa stifles a gasp, feeling her core shudder. Coughing, she walks back to the kitchen, gesturing for Ferdinand to follow but Clarissa to stay. "I need to double check something....in the kitchen. Hold on." After a few minutes, a weasel comes dashing out crying, "I WILL NEVER BAKE FOR THE SNAKE!!!" Apparently the Chieftain was covering up her shock at the news with a request for an infinite supply of cheese buns for her pet. As the weasel flees the tavern, the cat returns, having composed herself (although she is still a little poufy). Ferdinand shows no signs of anything other than peace and his sense of duty, although she undoubtedly told him while they were back there. While they're gone, Clarissa gazes wistfully at the Abbot, then at Xander. "There'll be some o' that ale this evenin', right?" As Blisa walks up, she takes a deep breath, forces down the sorrow and fear, and smiles. "Ale sounds lovely. Don't worry, Clarissa, I'll make sure some is saved for you." The rat relaxes, grinning. "Aye,The rat relaxes, grinning. "Aye, aye, Cap'n!"
Benar smiles and accepts his tankard of ale with thanks to Patch and sips it, "A fine brew... thank you."
He looks at Gorvenalus, Lacota and Blisa, "We carry on with the visit as planned," he whispers softly, "There is no reason to ruin everyone elses day," he squeezes Lacota's hand, then stands up and hugs Blisa as she returns and nods to Clarissa, "Of course we brought enough October Ale to last you a month but once that is gone any more will have to be purchased in the usual way. Now then."
He raises his tankard and speaks loudly, My friends, if I may I need to just speak out and thank you all, beasts of Ferravale, our friends, thank you for your warm welcome and allowing us to partake of your hospitality, know that Redwall will always hold you in our hearts as friends and neighbors so thank you all."
Patch frowns and looks at the cat "Cheese buns....ya have a strange snake Hey!" He didn't hear other news "Someone is making that snake his cheese bun..scones don't care a happy snake is GOOD...keep it happy and full of cheese I say!"
Gorvenalus blinks at the...ok, he smiles a little at the idea of a snake eating cheese.
Lacota nods his head and sighs, though he doesn't smile. He's not the type to care much for taverns, after all.
Xander looks over and sighs, "Really...patch"He mutters
Blisa takes a swig of her ale. Oh, yeah, she needs a drink right now. Ferdinand leans down and whispers in her ear, which makes her scowl. Blinking up at the Abbot, she puts on the best smile she can muster and raises her tankard, too. "Here, here! May the sun never rise on a day where we would consider breaking our vow of friendship! Thank /you/, my dear friend." Clarissa smiles and raises her mug of tea, as does Ferdinand. The few Ferravalians in the tavern raise their drinks to join the toast....even the rat who's always drunk by noon. At least he's a mellow drunk....
Benar smiles and clanks his tankard against Blisa's and sits back down, smiling and warmly remaining friendly, open to everyone who wants to come up and talk. Being gregarious and friendly to the Feravalians who want to talk to the abbot. "It is a delight and a genuine pleasure my friends to be here in this village and be able to sit and drink with you all as friends"
Gorvenalus sits down and gets an ale, Patch seems busy in the back right now.
Xander smiles as he looks around, he is glad the visit seems to be going well. He has yet to notice anything out of place as earlier he was busy checking things to see any tensing up, he missed it which is likely a good thing for now, "So how long are you and the abbey beasts here Benar"
Lacota raises a cup as well. "Aye, may it last forever..."
Blisa smiles and laughs as a Dibbun rat comes up and awkwardly tells what's actually a very funny joke about a tree. The rat looks up at the Abbot curiously after he tells his joke, apparently not having seen an Abbey beast up close yet. His mother hovers anxiously nearby, nervously eyeing the Champion and her sword. The Chieftain keeps an eye on the hedgehog, too, wondering why she's feeling so jumpy right now. "Aye, friendship lasts forever, even past death," the cat says, her smile slightly sad, but still genuine. She gets pulled away as a merchant talks to her a little. Nodding, she turns to the Abbot and adds, "By the way, the Inn is open for your whole party to stay in. I insist!"
Benar smiles at Xander and raises his tankard, "We spent about four days at Camp Willow, it'd be rude not to remain as long," he looks at Blisa, "As long as you do not mind us remaining so long Chieftan." he bows to her and smiles, "And I thank you for the use of your inn, a real bed will be quite pleasant after nearly two weeks on the camp bed." he stands up and shakes out his habit, "Now I should mingle and talk to beasts," he nods and moves off, the smile on his muzzle set in place as he chatters away to them all.
Lacota sighs. "Ach, finally, a proper bed!" This warms the cockles of his crotchety soul. "I do hope they're comfortable..."
Gorvenalus says, "An Inn.....I think I seen that when we came in, looks nice from the outside"
Blisa shrugs. "I dunno, I always just sleep at home. I haven't heard any complaints about the beds." She, too, mingles a little, answering the less noisy of the questions about the Redwallers, steering the more nosey towards the ale and a snack bar that's being set up. She stays near the Abbot, though, just in case he wants or needs to speak to her again. And to redirect a couple of drunk vermin. That one is being calmly taken to a prison cell to chill his paws. Don't let the Abbot know that, though.....
Benar seems genuinely happy, for the moment forgetting his cares and subsuming himself in the public persona expected of the Abbot of Redwall, warm, friendly, a little mysterious, dispensing wisdom and quietly talking to everyone who approaches and even approaching a few who remain quiet and shy in the background about approaching him. He even goes so far as to tell a few vermin children that yes, they could join the order if they wanted, which is bound to make parents twitch but well all are welcome.
