Searching The Woods-Redwall Log

The Abbey Champion helps find a missing dibbun with the help of a couple beasts and also finds a somewhat  small forgotten settlement of woodlanders

Who:

Matilda- Abbey Champion

Xander- Leader of Mossflower Defenders

Ewan- Private and Fighter in the Long Patrol, Residental Redwall Abbey Long Patrol Hare

-Some spoofed mice

-A young lost hare

Log:
Matilda was just glad to get out and about the woods, a simple walk and while she was at it, check on a couple beasts as there was a pretty bad late Spring storm, even if it only lasted a mere half hour at the most there was a lot of rain and little balls of ice, some lightning and gusts of strong wind.

Xander decided to tag along in case any help was needed, and he needed a break from making sure the soon to be open Redthorn Tavern and Mossflower Defenders Base was going well, he trusted the beasts doing any needed finishing touches and most of the storm damage luckily missed Ferravale.

Ewan was curious of the area south of the abbey and wanted to explore it, make a sort of mental map in his mind as all he had to do was go down a path, a road, an area once and it would be remembered, and he remembered maps he looked at just once as well.

They were nearing Mossflower Village, a small woodland village not too far from the old run down  St. St. Ninian's church. A couple mice were on the roadside looking a little tried and upon seeing the three beasts coming up the road quickly went over to them.

Matilda slowed in her walking and nodded to the two mice “Hello, is something wrong? Did you need help with anything today?”

Xander frowned “We surely don’t need any trouble going on, I have liked the peace and wish for it to go on, and this close to the Abbot’s Summer trip I rather see no trouble at all. I don’t even know where all of the Defenders are, some yeah but not all…they sort of are on their own, I told them to just make sure they are around when Summer starts as hoping the Base and Tavern is completed by then”

Ewan ears go back a little in thought, then perk a little ”There is..cricket sounds and all seems well, least right now.”

The two mice wait to speak and then, “No no..it’s nothing like vermin thank goodness, no we are looking for a missing young one, a young hare whom is missing, he is still in his dibbuns seasons….just barely and…”

The other mouse frowns but tells the rest of what is needed “there was a little storm damage in a section of Mossflower Village that no one has lived in for a few seasons, a large old tree fell onto an abandoned home and messed up part of another that belonged to…we assume the child’s caretaker. But we rarely spoke to him he..he was not too friendly, and was moody a lot a sort of hermit but he cared for the young hare, we never knew their names. The older one died of a heart attack before the storm hit and we were trying to calm the young one but then the storm hit and he bolted into the woods, we were not able to look for him right away and we are worried for him.”

Matilda nods as she listens, “Ok me and my two friends will be happy to look for the young hare and I am sorry to hear of his caretaker’s recent death, perhaps the young one can live at Redwall.I am sure Papa Oz and Krisha be glad to help him fit in.”

Xander smiled “Yes Uncle Oz is the dibbun caretaker and my mate Krisha has been helping him a lot lately.” He scan the area “Ok so any idea where the young one would be? Where was he when he ran into the woods and since you mentioned the storm then it’s been about a day so far or almost a day since he been missing so it would be a very good idea to find him as quickly as possible.”

Ewan looks around “I know a lot of the woods from maps and can remember the way back to here and he may go to a fellow hare quicker maybe”

The two mice smile “Thank you very much, come we will show you where we seen him last.” They are led to a sort of area where a couple homes are by a small pond, most homes are on down a path and there is the small Waterfall Pub next to a forge. The village is very small and maybe around 5o or so beasts live here still.

Matilda looks around “We can help with repairs if needed Abbot Benar was planning a trip into Mossflower soon here in a couple weeks’ time, maybe he can stop by here as one of the last stops.” She nods to Ewan “Ok go and be careful, it has been peaceful ye but there is still the once in a while trouble maker around.”

Xander blinks “Never knew this place was around, it’s nice and one would miss it if didn’t know it was down a path a little ways from the old church”

Ewan salutes and heads into the woods to start his search for the missing young one, least the weather was fairly nice, not hot and past being cold. A sort of welcome in-between right now but slowly getting warmer as the days slowly turned from Spring to Summer.

The two mice smiled, some other mice and a couple voles, a mole and a few odd shrews and even a couple otters lived here.

==== An hour or so passes===

It would not be too long before the hare came upon a sound, a crying sound of a lost young, slightly cold, beast. Closer look it was the young hare with dirt on him and his clothing, a cut on his arm and some briars in his fur in a couple places. He also had a skinned knee but otherwise he was fine, hungry but fine.

Ewan walks slowly towards the other hare and kneels down “Hallo?” Ok he was not the best with dibbuns or teens as they just seemed to suddenly do things, good or bad, outta the blue and he didn’t want the young hare to bolt away again.

The younger hare eyes widen as he does bolt, but to Ewan and gets a sort of death like grip on him sobbing and shivering.

Matilda comes into view and keep a small distance “You found him, that’s good Ewan, we can get him to the abbey and I will have a sparrow tell Xander the young one was found.” She frowns “Maybe we can find out whom his caretaker was, they plan to bury the older hare in the graveyard close to the Mossflower Village.”

Ewan nods and studies the younger hare and blinks “You’re..familar…”He is not sure why. But the young hare is as he decides he will figure it out later and walks towards the abbey “Sounds good..yes, maybe get a name of something of the other hare, if it’s possible or..or well something or maybe we can ask the young one once he gets cleaned up, looked at by a healer and gets a good meal.”

The young hare soon falls asleep as he is carried by Ewan. Well it’s clear he trusts a fellow hare and feels safe with them, but who is this young hare and why does he seem so familiar. So many many questions….

The abbey Champion makes sure the beasts get to the abbey and makes sure Xander gets word all is well now, she will also let the Abbot know about this as well as Oz and Krisha, then get cleaned up herself, a meal and get some needed sleep.
