Beasts Get Grumpy Sometimes-Redwall Log

Who:

Oz-Badger Mother, AKA Papa Oz

Invar- Visiting badger

Angela- Healer

Ewan- Private in Lp, Residential  LP Hare of Redwall

Dorarose- Gatekeeper of Redwall

Log:

Oz was sitting down, seemed as good as any place to take a break and not be...well brothered, he had yet to do his weekly checkup, he hated the checkups and he had something to do he viewed as important. And no one came to the fire pit, well much anyways.

Ewan came over and sat down. He had a blank scroll and a quill pen and ink as he spoke "You wanted to meet here, didn't ask the novice why not ask Gorvenalus, he is the recorder of ...well stuff, but I came and here I am..wot did you want?" Well clearly to have something written down.

Oz knew it was him before he sat down, "To write a letter, but it's a letter for later...when the time comes, you can send it with a sparrow"

Ewan nods, "Oh...about"He frowns, he hates talking of death but will write the letter "Ok...tell me wot ta write." He says simple, he can do this.

Oz nods as he softly speaks, only to have the letter rewritten a 2nd time. He seems to think as he has a 2nd letter written and is soon finished, he needs to rest his voice.

Ewan finishes it, reads it over and rolls them up putting them aside as he looks at the badger"You...doing ok?"

Oz nods slowly and clears his throat "I...will be ok just bit too much speaking is all but it...needed down"

Ewan watches Oz for a couple moments before relaxing" I can..write other letters or wot ever for you also, if you want me to but maybe another day be best for it"

Oz nods "Good...good to know and yeah in a couple days maybe, sides some need more thought anyways"

Ewan nods "More thought is always good for important letters or..wot ever it is your wanted written"

Oz sighs "Just...letters to different beasts, final words you can say but told now rather than waiting till later."

Ewan speaks after some silence "Cause...your not sure how well you feel or..be later on correct? And it's best to do this sort of thing now right? To...umm..better be able to get it out better or...."Ok he isn't great at words sometimes.

Oz says, "Yeah"Short and simple as he speaks again after clearing his throat "I..do not know how..long I will be around but..just a feeling and the not really getting better, not..worse either but not better either. ""

Ewan just listens, his ears back slightly as he does. He knows the badger's age and some of when he was in a deep faint for a while during the siege couple seasons back almost now.

Oz says, "But..I still do not want beasts to..worry so much on every little thing I do, it's....annoying"

Ewan shrugs "Beasts...tend to worry anyways, no one can really stop worrying and some think one can control...fate at times or whats to happen, whats not to happen..maybe slow it but in the end, not really....stop it from happening"

Oz has been sitting at the Fire pit a little while, sort of avoiding the healers, healers are being so annoying past couple weeks and the whole weekly checkup he figured could wait till later. He had just had a , sort of brief talk with Ewan and is now having his mint tea, out here for a change.

DoraRose comes into the fire pit area, carrying a bundle of firewood. "Hey, Oz. Beautiful day , isn't it?" She sets the wood beside the fire pit and sits down across from the badger. "Nana is looking for you. She's in a high temper."

Oz just shrugs "Well she can look." He sips his mint tea as relaxes a little"And I do like warm days. no more cold is good." He also doesn't have his staff right now, another sip of his tea "Maybe she can do something to cheer up"

Invar is out in the grounds, he has yet to move on from the abbey and seems happy enough to be hanging around the abbey he grew up in. Currently he has a broom but there's very little sweeping going on as he's twirling it between his paws and wandering the orchards. He spots the others in the distance eventually though and starts moving towards them "'ey"

DoraRose smiles wryly. "She's pretty worried about you, I will say. I haven't seen her this upset in months. She may bop you with her staff." Hearing the greeting, she turns and waves to the other badger. "Hey." Turning back to the badger, she adds, "Letting her check on you would help improve her temper."

Oz sighs, he then hears Invar and sighs again "Greetings Invar...."He sips his tea, then decides to just finish the tea and sits the mug down "Fine, I will put up with the check up and I already had that...foul mixture earlier, donon't need it again till bedtime"

Invar keeps spinning the broom about though he is a little bit clumsy about it but that's why he's practicing and keeps a little bit back. He tilts his head at Oz's sighed greeting before snorting "Well don't sound so 'appy about it. 'ave I out stayed me welcome already?" Dora gets a little head bob greeting.

DoraRose nods. "Good. I know it's annoying, Oz, but we care about you and are trying to help you. Maybe you and I could work on mixing that tonic stuff with something so it's less disgusting?" Shaking her head, she turns to the newcomer and replies: "Nah, you're fine, and welcome to join us. He's just having a bad day." No details, just a 'bad day'. Instead, she changes the subject by pointing to his broom-spinning. "How are you doing that with a staff?" Always the Warrior.

Oz snorts, "I am sure she will find me, not going anywhere else but here for now" He listens to Invar "You can stay..tis fine just a little tried" He still listens as he remembers the badger from when he was younger.

"Well in me experience y'start by droppin' it a lot, hit yerself in the head a few times an' then, if yer really stubborn, or possibly just not smart enough t'stop doing it eventually y'can look like you know what you're doin' for a bit" Invar replies to Dora with a grin before he glances back to Oz "Oh, aye. I can tell 'e's in a bit of a mood t'day. Ol' grumpy greystripe. Clearly it's the lack of dibbun horde t'blame"

DoraRose snorts slightly, obviously trying to not laugh out loud. But before she can say anything, an elderly mouse comes hobbling into the firepit area, leaning heavily on a wooden staff that has a bunch of knotted strings and threads and thin cords hanging from the top, some of them with beads in the notwork. "There Yaren, Oz," she grumbles. "Why dye insist on not coin' to the Infirmary when you're possessed to??" She is scowling fiercely. The Gatekeeper sighs. "Nana, I think he can probably wait a few hours..." "No! When y' 'ave an appointment, we're possessed keep it!"

Oz shakes his head "Appointment...I am just...."And he tilts his head at Invar when he calls him Grey stripe and mutters something as he starts to get up and then coughs a little, a frown forms and he sits back down slowly, ok he can walk away in a few moments, most likely he...never mind he is stuck here for now and she could probably move faster than him right now so he may as well sit."I..dislike=cough= the infirm..."She can check on him now if she wants.

Invar knows the scary old healer type and the broom twirling stops, the broom head is back on the ground where it belongs and the most rebellious thing he does is lean on it, slouching "Ah come on Oz. Wha' is it that you all like t'tell the dibbuns when they're ill and have t'see the 'ealers? Presumably yer probably friends with everyone workin' in the infirmary when yer not ill an' bein' rude t'em"

DoraRose ducks an angry wave of the staff as her grandmother threatens her. "Yeesh, what'd /I/ do, Nana?" "Don't even get me started....now, Oz, I'm gonna feel yer pulse first," she says in a much more gentle voice, letting the blind badger know what's going on. The Gatekeeper sighs again. "Aye, Nana was saying the other day he's a nice, decent, gentle creature--owch!" She catches the staff and just holds it as Angela scowls and continues on with trying to check on Oz.

Oz snorts, he just dislikes the...exams, this one for sure, the healers he is friend with. His pulse is basically normal, maybe a small little bit up but only slightly. What he dislike is having to take any deep breaths, it....well it hurts to take a deep breath.

Invar snorts back louder! He will take the lack of argument back as a win though. Which leads him to paying attention to what's going on and looking mildly uncomfortable since he doesn't really like the idea of the old badger being ill "...Well, I guess y'probably don't want the audience" he says as he steps back.

DoraRose is still hugging her grandmother's staff. Angela glares at the young badger and points to one of the other logs. "You. I don't recognize ye. 'Ave a seat, young 'un -- prob'ly been ages since y'were last checked by a 'Ealer." Turning back to the blind badger, she murmurs, "'Kay, now, 'ow do y'feel when y'breathe? I'm gonna listen t'y'just breathin' regularly." The Gatekeeper looks at the young badger. "You better do as she says. I've seen her slip sleeping herbs into creature's food and drinks to force them to go to the Infirmary so she can give them an exam."

Oz frowns, breathing normal is fine"I am...fine, right now only a little pain when I take a deep breath, not too often need to take deep breaths after all...I try and....take it easy, even been letting Krisha...do a couple classes...she does need to one day full time..anyways"

Invar raises an eyebrow at the old healer. He considers making a run for it or just stubbornly refusing to leave, that's what he used to do with abbey healers but he just got done telling Oz off and the healers do tend to be ruthless hunters sooo "If y'like..." he glances to Dora "Much as I'd like t'see how she'd drag me t'the infirmary in me sleep"

DoraRose smiles wryly. "We have some pretty burly otters who work in the Infirmary. They're the ones who carry unconscious or injured badgers up there. Nana just directs them." Angela frowns, not her grumpy scowl but rather her concerned Healer's frown. "Well, sounds like ye're doin' what y'need to, Oz. An' ye've been drinkin' that tonic, right? Sorry it tasts so bad, by the by. Wish I could make it taste better."

Oz has went from moody to sort of...sad? He nods his head "It's...alright"He says softly"Maybe a little mint would...help"He shrugs. He had a small pain as he took a couple deep breaths but it seems to of passed now and he is fine."And I take the tonic..."

Invar ahs at Dora. Well that explains it "Plan fer everythin' this place" he watches the other two for a moment quietly, trying not to imagine the worst.

DoraRose nods. "I think we even have a contingency plan for if we're invaded again....although I do greatly hope that doesn't happen." Angela nods. "I'll try addin' some mint to it an' see if that 'elps." She finishes the exam and goes to rest a paw on the Badger Father's shoulder. "Lemme know if it anythin' changes, even for the better. Alright?" She smiles. The Gatekeeper finally sticks out her paw to the younger badger. "I'm DoraRose Strongheart, bty the way. Gatekeeper of Redwall and resident Warrior."

Oz nods and smiles a little "I...will Angela, didn't mean to upset you any, don't want to upset..anyone as for better not really been better, or worse for that matter"

Invar hmms "'ope fer the best, prepare fer the worst. Sad t'say invasion isn't the more unlikely thing" he looks back down to the gatekeeper and stretches out a big paw in return "Invar, wanderer, fighter, little bit of everythin'. Just stoppin' by for a visit. Grew up 'ere, just one of yer abbey dibbuns"

DoraRose smiles. "Pleasure to meet you. When did you leave Redwall? I've been here for a number of seasons." (However in the world many seasons it's been since March 2012 tongue ) Angela shakes her head. "Oh, 'tis fine, Oz. I'm just concerned, is all. An' I dislike it when I can't find my patients." Turning to the younger badger, she scowls slightly. "When's the last time y'were checked o'er by a 'Ealer is a better question."

Oz chuckles and coughs, a sigh but he clears his throat "I will let beasts know where I am..if it helps, not like I ever leave the abbey....by the way have YOU been ok Angela, you seemed down at the feast and I don't think it was out of concern for me at the time."

Invar shrugs a shoulder at Dora "A few years back, not sure if I remember y'or not...but y'know how kids are" he looks back to Angela "Ah well, lets see...probably about a month an' a 'alf ago when I was shot about five times..oh an' stabbed a bit too" he looks amused and unconcerned "Pirates" is his only explanation.

Angela's eyebrows raise as she leans back a tad with slight shock at his nonchalant list of injuries. "...did y'get checked up on after y' 'ealed from all o' that?" She asks, thinking that maybe he doesn't need a check-up, after all. DoraRose stifles a giggle. The Badger Father's question is temporarily ignored. He should probably ask it again, knowing how the old Healer is with avoiding answering questions about herself.

Oz frowns"Angela?..Are you alright, anything need known...I can just listen and not reply" He shakes his head at Invar, most badgers he know or have know...most...were warriors, he just isn't one himself...though he is strong and can use a staff very well.

Invar starts to grin a little, nothing like throwing the healers off for a bit of fun "Oh it weren't tha' bad. Y'have t'get used to these things when yer a big target. Alas I was on a ship full of otters, there wasn't a place I could go t'avoid the checkups"

Angela scowls. "'Y'idiotic Warriors thinkin' injuries aren't bad--" "Hey!" DoraRose sits up indignantly. "I always take them seriously!" "Aye, 'cause yer 'usband was Master 'Ealer and y' 'ave 2 children. Ye've learned to care." Shaking her head and deciding she can get her revenge on the young badger later (perhaps next time he gets injured she can put on some herbs that sting but are still helpful) she glances at the blind badger. "Nah, I'm fine..." "Liar -- no, you can't have your staff back -- EEK!" the Gatekeepr falls off her log while trying to keep the staff away from her grandmother, who is scowling darkly. "I'm fine. A beast can be upset at a feast. 'Tis perfectly normal. Now leggo o' m'staff, y'little whippersnapper."

Oz hmmms as he seems to listen and stay silent,"Are you...sure?Maybe we can talk further you just seem off somehow, not sure why"He sighs a little and then "Please do not fight over a...a staff"

Invar still looks amused though he's clearly set something off. He just leans on his broom and watches the family go to war "Ever the battle between healer an' fighter. I'd like t'say otherwise but it's usually best t'put yer money on the 'ealer" he comments to no one in particular.

DoraRose relinquishes the staff and scowls at the younger badger. "I can hold my own!! But you should watch out for my grandmother. She has some secret poisons she uses when she's outside the Abbey or if we're under attack." Angela sighs and turns to the Badger Father. "I....No, Oz. I just.....nevermind. We can talk more later." And she hobbles off, leaving the Gatekeeper on the ground. "What? No help for me?? Nana!"

Oz frowns as Angela walks off, well he will indeed ask next time he speaks to her." He stands slowly and seems to almost follow her and then just stays where he is slightly uneasy on his foot paws and snorts a little.

Invar almost laughs when Dora objects "Really? Well I'd be 'appy t'learn about these sneaky poisonous ways, y'know, since our warrior ways are apparently so bad" there's a smirk though it falters when Angela walks off and Oz gets up so slowly and seems uneasy. He goes to lean his broom against Oz's chest "'ere, look after me broom" because it might keep him from falling over and he might accept it better than help plus it leaves Invar's paws free to offer Dora one to help her up "So, y'can hold yer own against her eh?

DoraRose scowls, all while accepting his help. "Oh, hush. I'm probably old enough to be your mother. Holy crabcakes, I can't believe I just said that." She looks gloomy now, even though she's on her feet. "I don't wanna be that old! Phooey." Going to rest a paw on the Badger Father's shoulder, she adds, "I'll try to get her to talk to you. I think it would do her some good. Catch you 2 later!" And she is off at a jog after the old Healer in the possibly vain attempt to try and talk some sense into the elderly mouse....

Oz sighs as he feels the broom and uses it to steady himself as he shakes his head "This is a broom not a staff, one can do this with "He spins it around, tosses it from one paw to another and then places the top part on the ground to steady himself again and shrugs. He listens as the two mice head off .

Invar laughs as the mouse calls herself old before leaving. He snorts with amusement as Oz starts playing with the broom too "Y'know what else y'can do with brooms? Sweepin'!" he aims a pat at the older badgers shoulder "Y'should try it sometime" he jokes though he also quickly steps away again since old beasts with sticks are often dangerous "Y'work on that an' I'm goin' t'say hi to the cook" which is code for he's going to go eat something.

Oz goes to attempt to bonk him on the head, not hard really and then gets the mug he sat down and shakes his head"I need to check on the dibbuns, make sure they didn't tie a novice up or something"He heads off slowly to do dibbun checking.
