Oz took the rest of yesterday off, and so far today, not that he had wanted to take today off he was feeling a lot better than he was yesterday. He had some good days where he had no issues, how long that would last he wasn't sure. It was a little past lunch and when he had started to get up a rather , in his view annoying healer on duty, made him lay back down in bed.
There is a knock at the door and Sister Clemantine opens it with a frown at Oz if he tries to get up to open it. She talks to someone outside and murmurs, "Make sure he stays in bed Father," She then slips out and Benar steps in. He is wearing his habit and carrying a small tray upon which is set a teapot and two cups.
He moves over to the large bed and sets the tray down on the side-table before settling into the chair next to the bed. He looks down at his old friend and reaches out to take his paw, "Afternoon Papa," He says quietly, "I think we need to talk."
Oz hearing is very good, maybe more so than others. Then it is always said if one loses one sense others are highlighted some. He waits till Benar sits down and frowns. He has been awake for an hour as he did fall back to sleep, "Your...concern, I was...lightheaded briefly is all." He is not sure whom all saw him pass out or maybe came into the great hall after his nephew panicked, he is gonna have to talk to the boy bout panicking like that..he was fine, ok maybe he isn't totally fine. "I do feel better than yesterday"
Benar remains quiet for a moment, "That's not what the Friar had to say Oz..." He says softly, "Beasts just do not randomly pass out like that. Nor do the healers fuss so much," He squeezes the elderly badgers paw, "Now did you want to talk to me Papa, or do I go find a healer I can hit over the head with my title until they talk?"
He reaches out with his other hand and pours the tea, Oz's favorite blend, the scent wafting into the air on the rush of steam, "I'd rather you told me what is wrong Papa, then have to go bully a healer but you know I will, for the good of the abbey, the dibbuns and most importantly you..."
The squirrel pauses for a moment then shifts his chair closer, "Imagine the effect your passing out like that would have had if it had happened in the middle of school or at bed time stories... please talk to me."
Oz sighs, he thinks as yeah passing out in front of the dibbuns wouldn't be a good thing, lucky he didn't, just in front of a couple novices,a guest, and he remembers Xander and Lacota being there. He at first seems to not want to talk , after he said he would and then finally after a short quiet moment he speaks "I...I don't know wot is..fully going on Benar. Just..how I felt off and on, yesterday was the only time I ever..,passed out" He is concerned and it shows in his voice. "Right before the..snow melted feel rather bad, but didn't...didn't pass out then"
The abbot frowns and picks up a cup and saucer, the china clinks and he presses a cup into Oz's paws. He then takes his own and for a moment stares down into the cup then sighs.
"That isn't normal Oz, that sounds serious, a cold or even the flu are pretty easy to identify but at your age Papa... you should go to the healers the moment something like this happens."
He stirs his tea then reaches out a hand to squeeze Oz's shoulder, "It could just be you have a nasty bug or a cold developing and you've been over-doing it. But let me send for a healer to give you a proper examination, no complaints, no making them stop..."
He smiles wryly then chuckles softly, "I'll ask Sister Clemantine to come back and do it, or I can go ask Angela, "I am surprised she hasn't kicked your door in and hit you with her stick until you agreed, but please Oz for all our peace of mind let us help you and look after you? Have you any idea how worried everyone is right now? I'd rather be able to go back downstairs and say all is well and the Healers are looking after you, then that you think you are ok."
Oz frowns, he takes his tea mug nodding his thanks before taking a small sip. He keeps the frown, "Sister..Clemantine can...look me over..it's fine."He is concern as he takes another sip of tea and maybe a little tried still from yesterday so maybe today off was good as well. "I..didn't want to..worry any beast."He could tell him some pains he has had but, for now, he can wait for a few moments anyways.
Benar reaches out and squeezes Oz's shoulder, then sips his tea, "You worried us more by passing out then if you'd quietly popped into the infirmary."
He chuckles, "No one would have been any the wiser if you'd quietly popped in to see a healer or had one visit you here, now," He sets aside his tea, "I will go get Clemantine."
He opens the door and murmurs, "He's agreed to let you look at him," The squirrel speaks quietly but not too low for Oz's voice. Then the door opens and the mus Clemantine comes back in. Benar hovers, "I can go out if you want Oz and let you and Clemantine talk."
Oz frowns and doesn't say weather the abbot should stay or go a few moments, "I..dislike the infirm.."And he does, usually takes a while to get any checkups done. He sits up a little better and places the mug of now half drank tea down"Let's just....get this over and done with"
Sister Clemantine smiles and moves to the bed to take his paw, "No one likes the infirmary Oz... but it is important."
She signals for Benar to take a seat then starts to question Oz, "What pains have you had, can you show me where, do you still feel them, are they here... does it hurt when I squeeze."
The usual list of questions and checks any good healer makes. Benar sits quietly, holding his tea and letting Oz get this over and done with.
Oz mutters something, it's not the beast he dislikes just the whole examine part, the questions and all that. His pulse right now is normal, his breathing is fairly good...least till he tries taking deep deep a breath and though he tries not to he coughs roughly a couple times and there is some pain briefly but it doesn't stay very long and eases some again. Ok the knee hurts...his knee seems to dislike him in colder weather for sure, but the knee pain isn't too bad, his shoulder seems to hurt. He would mention trouble breathing at times but that seems not needed now. A frown..no nothing else hurts....ok maybe his back a little after the cough and deep breath, but not like he takes deep breaths that often, no need to. He coughs a little after the exam but no signs of like film from a cold or flu, no sneezing...no headache right now.
Sister Clementine frowns and shoots the Abbot a glance and Benar reaches out, "Please Papa, just answer her questions... tell her about your breathing."
She takes his hand and places a paw on the side of his neck, delicate mouse hands touching lightly, "Please Papa, deep breath again... being able to breath deeply is normal. If it hurts when you breathe deeply then something might be wrong."
She looks at his face, "Please Papa, deep breath, you breathe deeply when you yawn, if it is causing you pain or shortness of breath then we need to investigate."
Oz frowns "Rather...not" He speaks quietly, he has noticed a couple times if he yawns he has a pain, but not too bad. " Hurts...."He frowns..fine he will speak more and try and take a deep breath, yes that hurts as he tenses up "Pain...usually...lessens on own, not happening that much..."He coughs a couple times. He takes a few calming breaths "When....right before snow started to melt...dibbuns was in...snowball fight"He calms a little ans clears his throat to speaks better, "I..had to go in...Krisha helped me to my room..told her I was just tried...but ..I was having trouble..breathing, it cleared up after a few minutes on its own"
Clemantine listens to his chest and shakes her head with a frown, "Papa, you have something wrong with one of your lungs. I can hear it is not drawing breath properly."
She glances at the Abbot who nods encouragingly, "I am going to mix a tonic that should help with your breathing. You are to drink it every morning and night," she looks back at Benar, clearly sure she knows Oz will object to this.
"You can deliver it yourself or have a Novice do it, if he doesn't drink it I'll set Angela on him and have him moved to live in the infirmary, under her jurisdiction, permanently."
She sighs a bit in relief at having the Abbot's backing, "Now then," she says softly, "It sounds like you either have a nasty chest infection, or something worse so I will be doing a check up once a week to see if you are improving and if you have another episode you are to tell me straight away."
Oz frowns, but "Fine.."He coughs a little and frowns a little, ok maybe something a little different but he clears his throat after being quiet"Fine...I can...drink something and if something is wrong will...tell someone.."
Benar reaches out and hugs the badger gently, "Thank you Oz, I know it is a big pain, I dislike being ill to, but it is better to drink their medicine and let them check you over rather then let something minor turn into a big thing," He stands up, "Now I will tell everyone who is fretting you are in good hands."
Oz nods, he tilts his head at the healer if she is still in the room, but it can wait till he drinks what will clearly likely taste very bad, he is gonna so request they get mint leaves soon to help with flavoring.
Benar stands up and smiles, "Now I will leave you and Clemantine to work on her tonic, you rest up Papa ok and please let us help you ok? We all love you," He hugs the badger again then stands up and is once again the Abbot, not the gray squirrel was remembers Oz from when he was a child, "Now I will let myself out and send up some more mint tea."
Oz nods, he smiles a little "The....abbey does need some more..mint"They hardly have any, yes he is complaining a little. He will hug the abbot back and sighs, he know the worry and likely will worry him more unless the healer can keep something a little quiet, for now anyways as the tonic could help.
Clemantine nods and lets herself out, taking the Abbot's tray for him, "You stay Father, I will get the mint tea, I need to go brew that tonic anyway," She bustles off determinedly, now the Abbot has bullied Oz into behaving she intends to utilize him and not leave him on his own.
Benar chuckles and sits back down, "Well papa, sounds like you are stuck with a me for a bit longer. Sorry to bully you so like this, but you gave everyone a big scare."
Oz nods slowly as he clears his throat, coughing once and sighing a little "It's..fine you are my friend, you were here when I first came to the abbey...I remember....and Lormis asked me to stay, and I did...and I am glad of it"He seems to be debating on saying anything more, deciding for now not to, he did have to take a few deep breaths earlier after all and now he seems fine. Worried...but fine."I'm...sorry..to of scared any beast..."
Benar says, "Well then Oz," He stands and moves to open the window to let in some spring air, "You will be back on your feet in no time, until then I am going to ask Krisha to take over a few more of your duties."
Oz nods as he listens "If it..helps you feel better Benar..I can even take a couple days off to rest in my room."He feels the breeze and smiles "Also..glad its warmer now..always did hate the cold weather"
Benar says, "I think you should take a week or so off, until after the feast maybe," He turns back and regards the badger in the bed, "I think that would give you plenty of time to rest."
Oz frowns, "Fine..."He speaks "I will rest till the feast, then be at the feast..alright"He sounds tried but will stay awake long enough to drink that tonic stuff when the healer returns with it, coughing a little. He starts to rest but does reach out a paw to stop the Sister a moment, a quick few words, to not tell Benar unless it happens again...he did taste a little blood after the exam. He is not sure she will tell Benar or not, one thing is clear he is tried and soon is asleep, his pulse and breathing is good right now.
Clemantine feeds Oz the tonic and then steps to the door with Benar, she murmurs very quietly to him and he frowns, clearly distressed. But he covers up his worry and puts on a bright face as he heads outside and downstairs to reassure the dibbuns that papa will be well soon.
