Hey, if you have a char in FV, please tell me in a comment here who they are and what they do!  I need to compile a list.

I run:
Blisa, Chieftain, cat
Her bodyguards
I share spoofing Ann, the Head Guard, rat

#77 Re: Ferravale » RP in Ferravale: IDEAS!!! » 2022-02-22 04:14:00 PM

I think having the list on the forum may be a better idea; I have no idea whatsoever how to see those list things, so they're practically useless to me.  I'll work with Oz to try to get the list made here in the next week or so.

Do you have any ideas for FV RPs?

#78 Re: Redwall Abbey » Seasonal Feasts » 2022-02-22 04:12:09 PM

Maybe Saturday the 26th of February?

What days are most Redwall people on?

#79 Re: The Long Patrol » Some LP Updates & Suggestions- 2022 » 2022-02-22 04:10:42 PM

I think plots can still happen during Terrence's plot, although if I'm wrong, he's welcome to correct me.

I'd love to hear your idea, though, so feel free to share it here: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=1165&p=4 smile

#80 Re: Ferravale » RP in Ferravale: IDEAS!!! » 2022-02-22 03:58:14 PM

What would be happening with this tree?  What ideas do you have in mind?

And for the slavers, I was thinking all of them would end up getting arrested and the slaves rescued and taken to Redwall in the end.  Maybe one slaver could escape and become snake food, mwahahahaha.  Thanks for volunteering!  That's already a big help (less for me to spoof)!  Hhmm, sounds like this could be a multi-day plot...nice! big_smile

#81 Re: Redwall Abbey » Redwall RP Discussion & Planning » 2022-02-22 03:55:44 PM

Okay!  What ideas do you have for this tree?  Or it could be found by some adventurous Redwallers, led by the restless DoraRose, who go on a little exploration of the woodlands!  But I want to hear what you have in mind first smile

#82 Re: Ferravale » RP in Ferravale: IDEAS!!! » 2022-02-22 03:32:11 PM

Oz and I were talking, and we've come up with some RP ideas:

1) Blisa was going around the village a few weeks ago making sure everyone was ready for Spring and that all the buildings were still in good shape.  The tavern has a leak in the roof, so we could RP that getting fixed.
2) I've also been bouncing around the idea of what it might be like if a group of slavers came to sell their slaves in Ferravale, not knowing that slavery is illegal in Ferravale (and Mossflower).  They wouldn't be kidnapping anyone, just trying to sell.
3) Ice topples an old, dead tree and it falls on something that they then have to fix (but not the tavern).
4) We could explore how the mill might work smile

Anybody have any other ideas?  And when should we do these RPs?  I'd like to do them within the next 3 months or so, if possible.

Hi, everyone!  Since I run the DAB groups here on the RWMUCK, I thought it'd be good to make a thread specifically for the LP DAB.

~*~

I would like to have some LP DAB shenanigans in the next 2 to 3 months, but I'm not sure what to do.  Any ideas?

#84 Re: Redwall Abbey » Misc: IC Stuff: Redwall » 2022-02-22 03:28:58 PM

Here's a new thread for planning RPs in Redwall: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=2262 we can still use this older thread for everything else smile

#85 Re: The Long Patrol » Long Patrol - Casual Scenes and Events » 2022-02-22 03:27:53 PM

Oz and I were talking recently, and we've had some RP ideas:

1)  The LP goes on an exploration/training sort of thing.
2) Recruits go exploring the catacombs on a dare.  They find a deep tunnel that leads who-knows-where (maybe outside?  That would lead to another RP or more of them sealing it up), and someone goes down to find them....but they think it's a ghost following them!
3) DAB shenanigans!  (see here: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=2263 )

We can totally do these RPs after the deep cleaning thing in Salamandastron, and during the subplot things Terrence is working on.  Do you guys have any other ideas?  Also, when should we do these RPs?  I'd like to do them, if possible, within the next 2 to 3 months smile

Our misc. post for the Redwall group has gotten very long, so I'm making a new one just for RP planning smile  Here's the old one to use for discussing other Redwall IC things: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=1756

~*~

Oz and I were talking, and we've come up with some RP ideas:

1) Some adventure, either on the Abbey grounds or out exploring Mossflower (or both!).
2) Snow shenanigans!
3) Ice topples an old, dead tree and it falls on something they then have to fix.
4) DAB (see here: http://forum.rwmuck.org/viewtopic.php?id=2149 )

Do you guys have any other ideas?  Also, when should we do these things?  I'd like to do all of them, if possible, within the next 2 to 3 months.

Also, this is now the thread to discuss Redwall RPs just to try and make it a little more organized.

#87 Re: Redwall Abbey » Misc. RW DAB shenanigans » 2022-02-22 03:23:44 PM

We need some DAB shenanigans.  They could...

1) Raid the kitchens in the middle of the night when no one is awake.
2) Sneak into the cellars and get lost.
3) Play in the snow when no one is looking.

Any other ideas?  We also need to plan when to do these things, because I want to try to do all of them within the next 2 or 3 months.

#88 Re: Redwall Abbey » Seasonal Feasts » 2022-02-22 03:09:49 PM

Didn't we already have it?  (I could be wrong...)

(Today also marks the 11th anniversary of Brian Jacques' death sad )

SCENE:

LOG:
Patch is tending to stuff behind the bar area as he also takes some mugs to be washed. The tavern is not too busy right now.

Cota walks in and finds a place to sit.For the time being he has his hood up on his cloak, but he dosn't seem too worried about being in the tavern.A few beasts do glace at him awhile before going back to what ever they were doing.

Blisa is doing a tour of the village. She's been up since dawn, checking on the various businesses and other places (such as the Infirmary and the mill). So far everything seems to be in order for Spring to arrive. She has taken a break to come to the tavern, in part to check and see how it's running and also to get a snack. The Chieftain breezes in, followed closely by Ferdinand the ferret, Clarissa the rat, and Hank the huge fox. The cat approaches the counter, smiling to everyone (even the newcomer hiding under his hood) as she passes them. "Hello, Patch! I'm checking on everything here in Ferravale to see if we're ready for Spring. How's the tavern going?"

Patch nods"Things be good so far Chiefie, spring still a little ways off after all.Least thar isnt nearly as much snow this winter , last winter was ...well very bad, disliked it a lot." He looks at the cloaked figure now and sighs, he then decides to not worry, not every claoked beast is out to get him.

Cota looks over nodding a hello. He listens slightly to the talking as he orders a drink. He has yet to speak to anyone though.

Blisa nods. "Last Winter was terrible, to say the least. Keep a look out on everything -- your supplies, the building, and let me know if anything starts looking bad. One the weather warms up some, but before the spring rains come, we'll need to fix some of the roofs in the village. Let me know if you think the tavern could use some patching." She heads to a booth and sits, her bodyguards following like shadows. The cat orders some shrimp stew on a bed of rice with tea and apple pie. Her bodyguards order vegetable soup, cheese dumplings, and tea with more apple pie for dessert. The newcomer in his cloak isn't being treated as suspicious just yet -- it is cold, after all!

Patch nods "I will, hmmm may be a leak in an...well kind of old room upstairs, kind of used rarely, not sure what ta do with it." He has the ordered drink for claoked beast and gets the cooks to make the chiftain and her guards food. The rat then alks over to whee the newcommer is "Hello....checking ta see how ye are, ya seem new to de area."

Cota gives a sigh as he gets his drink, he speaks "Not really new just be away a long while is all."He si[ps his drink slowly and glaces at Patch."I was in Halyard but things been a bit...well crazy there lately,so I left.Sides its a lot more quiet further into land than by the sea coast. Winter is less cold though."

Blisa cocks an ear to listen to Patch and Cota's conversation, but for now doesn't react in any other way. "A leak? We can have the builders check it out in the next few days, Patch." She pulls out a pile of paperwork from her bag and makes a note on a list of things around town that need looked at, then moves on to other things.

Patch nods to Blisa,"Yeah in...."He frowns as he looks upstairs and clears his throat"Yeah, as said tis barely used really..the Redwallers used it cause they needed more than one room."

Cota decides to take the hood off now so beasts will stop stareing at him. He speaks "Is the Inn still runing? I...ummm...may need a room for the night, my parents always said it was bad ta travel at night, travel in the day if ya can.I have enough coin don't worry."

Blisa glances over at the mouse now. "Yes, the Inn is still running and thriving. 'Tis usually not good to travel in this weather, so if you'd like to stay until Spring comes, you can find a job somewhere in Ferravale and stay in the town for free. Or you could use your coins and stay the night and leave in the morning. But I wouldn't recommend that in this cold unless you're not going any farther than Redwall."

Patch studys the mouse and speaks again "Abbey is about, little over hjalf a day away from here.Ya travel much?"

Cota smuiles a little "Redwall Abbey..."He looks at Patch "I..don't travel much, no. I..."A frown "I acahlly grew up in Mossflower,so did my mom and Dad.Mom..she died and mot seen my dad in a while, he..sort of disappeared. He might be dead,I don't know,With how Halyard been past few seasons...."He shurgs and looks at the cat."I might stay at the abbey, or maybe here.I don't know yet. I did help run a small tavern, before it got destoyed in a bad storm.I helped cook a little, and also served food and drinks"

Blisa raises an eyebrow. "You parents grew up here? Who were they? I might have known them." She glances at the rat. "Do you need another waiter, Patch, at least until the weather gets warmer?"

Patch hmmms"I could use help, thar be times it gets busy in here, usually at lunch and dinner times."

Cota replies "Cynthia and Caleb OOC note: (Not the Caleb thats active now)." He finishes his drink and seems to think on the offer of a job,"If I helped in the tavern....where would I stay ?" He decides to add one other thing.'My grandparents lived at the abbey too, and an aunt. Grandpa is dead but my Grandma is alive and hopefully my aunt also or..least I hope they are both alive anyways."

Blisa's mouth drops open. "Caleb and Cynthia! Wait, so you must be DoraRose's grandson! What is your name? She'll be so thrilled to see you!" The cat hops up and comes over, smiling more. "Patch, you have an extra room other than the leaking one, right? Could he stay there? We can fix the leaking one now, if necessary."

Patch nods "Yeah, de guest room I always had fer special guests like redwallers or like anyone else, important. De leaking room was..." He speaks quietly "Stripy's room, but he likely wouldnt care if it becomes a 2nd guest room later on" He gets a key and hands it to Cota, the non leaking room key.

Cota says, "Cota "He replies as he gets the key and decids to head to the room,"We can..talk more later, goodnight"

Blisa smiles. "Good night, Cota." When he's gone she smiles and clasps her paws. "DoraRose and LilyMoore will be so thrilled to hear he's back! I think I'll wait and see if he wants to go find them, though, before I send them a message. And we'll get Xander's old room fixed up, too, don't worry, Patch." She settles down to her food and paperwork before heading out to finish her inspection of the village.

SCENE:  Redwall Abbey Entry

CHARACTERS:
DoraRose, a female mouse.
John, a male squirrel.
Dochas, a female squirrel.
Krisha, a female badger.

LOG:
Dochas has been having a decent day so far. Yesterday a new squirrel named Eirwen came, and yesterday there were no classes and Dochas managed to not get into a fight with Spruce. There's been no classes today, either, and now she's all bundled up and playing outside in the snow, and by herself! Yep, that's a pretty good couple days in her book. Right now she's near the gates, drawing patterns in the snow with a stick she found. DoraRose is up on the walltop, keeping watch with the wallguards, her axe resting on the walkway at her feet.

Spruce was nowhere to be seen this day, meaning he was probably holed up in the library (again). The snow had finally stopped falling but the sky was still a grey blanket - yet Eirwen's paw prints form the day before had been covered. Nothing moved for as far as the eye could see, not a chill draft blew or branch fell. It was quiet.
Then, north on the road from the woods on the west side a creature hooded and cloaked leaps out and over the ditch to land on all fours on the snow covered path.

The newcomer isn't missed by DoraRose, but she doesn't react yet any more than looking over that way, keeping careful watch to see what this creature does. Dochas walks over to the Gatehouse steps, smiling as she drags her stick through the snow. She then tosses her stick aside and starts working on a snowbeast right beside the Gatehouse door. "DoraRose, I'm makin' a snowbeast for you!" The Gatekeeper smiles, but doesn't turn her gaze away from the newcomer on the road. "Oh, thank you, Dochas! That sounds lovely."

The 'newcomer' stand upright, brushing snow off himself and shaking his cloak. Wrapping what seems to be a scarf tighter about his face the creature heads south down the road and pushes down the feeling of regret - he never liked to travel in the open, especially not in recent seasons. But no matter. He boldly strides right up to the great gates and raises his paw to give two sharp knocks.
"Ahoy! Ye, up there, let me in 'efore Ah freeze m'tail off."

The sudden sound makes Dochas jump, and she leaps into the doorway of the Gatehouse, peering around the stones at the gate. DoraRose scowls and picks up her axe. The rest of the guards have perked up some, too. The Gatekeeper thinks she recognizes the voice, but you can't be too careful. "Do you come in peace? Show your face and be recognized!"

Krisha heads over to the entry from the direction of the open ground and slows when she notices some sort of action at the gates.A frown and she heads over as she stays alert.

If the guard could see the look on the squirrel's face they might've refrained from asking. "Y'can know a place for twenty seasons and yet none o'ye lot ever know me." With a sigh, he throws back his hood. "John bloody MacGarran, mate, an' if ye donnae open tha' gate in h'next five minutes, Dorarose, Ah'll just climb a tree yonder an' leap atop th'wall, Ah will."

Dochas looks over at the Badger Mother (the Dibbun actually has permission to be out here, and she's under the Gatekeeper's supervision, so she's actually not in trouble this time), then sprints from the safety of the Gatehouse door to hide behind the badger. DoraRose hides a smile. She thought so. "Can never be too careful, mate." The mouse heads down the steps and opens the gate enough for the squirrel to enter. "What has possessed you squirrels to be travelling in this weather? Yesterday we had a female drop by, and now you. Is this just squirrel weather?" the mouse smiles at her joke.

Krisha smiles at Dochas and glaces at John by the gate when it opens." Not seen you in a while"

With a scowl up at the sky, John mutters, "If this is what's yore idea o' squirrel weather, Ah don' much wannae be part o' th'species." As if to further his point he brushes even more snow off himself. "An' trust me, if Ah had a say in th'matter Ah'd no' be wanderin' at this time, bu'-" He catches sight of the badger mother, recalling the last time he was here, but continues. "Ah'd came t'have some words with th'good father abbot, if he's still kickin', course. Been on th'west shore fore some seasons now, which reminds me, it does-" He turns his attention follow to Krisha. "Did yore wee one make it back 'ere safe an' sound? Ah'd managed t'get him tae th'patrol last summer, bu' Ah never heard what happened in th' chaos then..."

Dochas notices that the adults seem to know the newcomer, and that he happens to be a squirrel like herself. She comes out of hiding behind the badger and bounds over to him, staring up at him curiously. "Ozzie? Yeah, he's here. Been here for a while. My name is Dochas. Who're you?" DoraRose gently places a paw on the Dibbun's shoulder after locking the gates up again. "Dochas, honey, I think this is kind of an adult conversation--" "I was kidnapped by slavers, I can handle anything." The Gatekeeper looks to the sky for patience as Dochas continues, "An' of /course/ Benar's still alive, yeesh. He's not /that/ old."

Krisha starts to reply and the dibbun beats her to it.  A smile." And thank you for getting Oz to the Long Patrol, and yes he was brought back, he is...well somewhere in the abbey."

Considering Benar was an elder when John was around Dochas' age himself, the squirrel raises a brow at her comment. He also knows very well who the dibbun even if she doesn't remember him, but he's not going to press the issue - or address the mention of slavers. Instead he bows his head to the badger. "Ah'm glad it managed some good in th' end, that's all. An' glad t'hear he's safe. An' Dorarose, don' ye worry about th' kit - th' adult conversation Ah'm intendin' t'have is with th'good father abbot, preferably no' out here in th'open like this, if Ah can help it. So donnae go shooing her away; anyways," he claps his paws, allowing himself a slight smile. "How is th'ol' abbey? Any devestatin' wars o' floods o'o'er horrific event take place in th'seasosn Ah've been away?"

Smiling softly, DoraRose shakes her head. "Not really. It's been pretty peaceful, actually." "I'm hungry, though," Dochas interrupts. "That's a catastrophe." Dora bursts out laughing. The Dibbun stares accusingly at the older squirrel. "You didn't answer my question. Who're you??"

Krisha smiles." Mealtime is very soon not to worry.Benar will likely be inside in the great hall when its mealtime."

John crouches down to look the dibbun in the eyes. "John MacGarran, Ah've been way fore some time, Ah have, but ye an' Ah've met 'efore now, we have." His one good ear twitches when Krisha speaks. "Well, Ah'm goin' t'find 'efore luncheon, then. Nothin' tae worrisome, Ah'd say, yet somethin' Ah'd rather no' leave be, if ye understand me meaning."

Dochas scowls slightly, crossing her arms and thinking. "I don't remember you...but maybe I was too little," she relents slightly, pulling her hat down more. DoraRose climbs back up to the walltop. "Well, put your weapons where they go, John, and get warm inside. I'll catch up with you later." Dochas smiles, then darts away. "Last one to lunch is a--" It's good that LilyMoore rings the bells for lunch right then. The tolling covers up the naughty words the squirrelbabe said as she dashed inside...

SCENE:  Salamandastron Dining Room

LOG:
It was long before dawn when the hares assigned to accompany the major woke up, with many loathe to rise in the cold of winter, even towards the heart of the mountain. While the walls and floors were covers with various carpets and hangings all that could not erase the chilly bite of the air blowing through the many passageways; not much was spoken as the hares shuffled down the steps and into the mess hall for what to them seemed the last warm meal they'd ever have - however one of the few outliers, a junior officer by the name of Walter Lossow, seemed excited by the prospect of going out again. He'd felt the mountain too stuffy for his tastes and truth be told had grown bored in the past season since he and the rest of the Tenderfoot hares returned.
Sipping his tea he meandered from table to table making a gallant effort to strike up conversation with the others, but none were all that eager (or really capable) of sharing their thoughts just yet. So he slowly made his way back to the table with the breakfast laid out.
One of the other hares (mostly) awake was Terrence, who was busy signing off various papers and documents he was vaguely aware had to do with how much supplies and equipment needed for the upcoming mission. He didn't have the will or the mind yet to fully read what exactly he was authorising but he trusted the clerks to know what they were about and not use his signature to sign off on something ridiculous.

Felicity has been up most of the night, unable to sleep due to the nightmares that still sometimes haunt her from the mission to rescue the Dibbuns. After tossing and turning for hours, she finally gives up and gets up, spending some time in the training room to burn off the anxious energy. She now enters the dining hall for an early breakfast before waking her sister for the day. She threads through the present hares to the serving line....but stops when she sees Terrence. She pauses, then remembers: we never know when death comes. So she heads over to his table just as a paper about giving the leverets extra candy rations is dropped off at the table for him to sign. She doesn't notice what's on it...not yet, anyway. "Terrence, I would say good mornin', but I feel 'tis a tad too early foh such a 'appy greetin'."

There's a small snicker as the leveret's rations are signed off on which earns the clerk /a look/ from Terrence, frowning. "Sorry master-sergeant, a bit of a private joke, wot."
"I see...." But Terrence was already distracted by the sergeant. "Well, good morning all the same, I say, as it's what we think and do that makes it such." Still unsmiling despite the words he starts grabbing his own breakfast.
"Though I wonder why you're up and about. You weren't roped into this too, were you?"
The clerk puts the paper - writing in a messy scrawl with several colourful ink splotches on it and signed by various young hares - at the bottom of the stack they hold. It's not the only thing they had the officer sign off on today....

Felicity shakes her head. "Nope, not comin' wi' you lot. Can't say I'm sorry 'bout it, eithah. I..." she looks to the floor. "Still sometimes 'ave nightmahes 'bout th'mission t'rescue th'Dibbuns, is all." It obviously hits her hard, especially since she's wide awake and sweaty from exercise at this time of night (early morning, whatever). Felicity shakes her head to clear it, then glances at the lower-ranking hares nearby. "Give us a moment, please, would you? Thanks." They know a polite order when they hear one, and they skitter off to get seconds on breakfast. When the 2 are alone, she turns back to the Master-Sergeant. "Terrence...we both know that th'futah isnt guaranteed, an' y'might no' come back from this mission. So I wanted t'talk t'y' 'bout somethin' while we still 'ave a chance."

It takes a moment for the master sergeant to understand what she meant about the dibbuns as the word was not all that familiar to him, but the mention of nightmares gives him a much better idea of what she speaks of. "I'm sorry..." He mummers, not sure what else he can say. Now having filled up his plate and not really reregistering the clerk leaving, Terrence had begun eating as he stood next to the table. He's just put the morsel of food in his mouth when she finishes speaking, and he pauses. Setting the fork down and chewing, he eyes her, seemingly much more awake and alert than before.
"Felicity, as far as I can tell this is going to be a thankfully boring couple of days - there aren't any really threats on the shore that we know of, and we aren't looking for a fight even if there were. Could still have a freak accident and get struck by lightening, but somehow I doubt that'll be the case."

Varus wends his way into the dining chamber, looking better than he has in ages. Oh dear... He's in one of his rare good moods. He pauses to address two privates as he enters, then says hello to a Lieutenant for good measure. And then he makes his way toward Terrence.

Felicity shakes her head. "Doesn't mattah. Thah's no time like th'present, an' I'm done waitin' foh th'right time t'say things...that accursed snake reminded me o' tha'." She takes a deep breath, then plunges into what she's wanting to say, what she tried to say last week. "I've been thinkin' 'bout our conversation from months ago 'bout Zolomon, an' I believe tha' y'nevah 'ated 'im. Maybe y'still even see 'im as a friend. I 'eard 'bout whot 'appened when 'e died" (although she still doesn't know all the details, she just thinks there was a fight) "an' I wanted t' say I'm sorry y' 'ad t'do tha', an' I'm no' angry wi' you. I know it must be 'ard foh you, an' I wanted t'make sure y'okay. An' don't y'dare lie t'me!" There is concern and sorrow in her eyes, but nothing more. She's being as honest as the day is long.

Lossow happened to be that lieutenant the major said hello to, and it had taken a moment for him to recognise the rank on the uniform and snap to attention. But Varus was already moving on and so the young hare breaths a sigh of relief.
There's a long moment before Terrence answers her, eating his food quietly. "I..." He begins slowly, "There's nothing you need to be sorry for. I did hate Zolomon in a way - but for what he did and acted, even before he was banished."
The hare shakes his head, being careful in his words. "It may have started when he was made sergeant, or perhaps before - but the pressure of leadership I don't think was something he could handle. My view of the brass who ordered it and did not seek my or Greg's opinions - as I was Zolomon's sergeant at the time and the captain his commanding officer - has not been all that favourable." He can't keep the hint of bitterness out of his tone, but he sighs and the bitterness is replaced with something more akin to tiredness. "And on top of that it always felt to me he expected praise for any good thing he did, even if there was a host of things more to do... and that was before that badger died. I'm probably wrong, and doesn't do to speak ill of the dead, but I think it would have been best for all of us had he never joined the patrol and stayed instead in Mossflower."

Varus harrump-harrumps as he arrives at Terrence and just barges head-first right into THAT conversation. "Y' did wot was bloody well necessary, wot. Seems t' me that... Zolomon, was it? 'E weren't fit f'r th' Patrol. Ya gotta bloody well be fit f'r th' job, or it'll eat ya up an' spit y' out like yestahday's cold porridge, eh wot! Wouldn't ya say, Sahgeant?"

Felicity listens, then thinks before replying. "Aye, may'ap 'twould've been bettah 'ad 'e stayed in Mossflowah...foh 'im as much as anybeast. But even if tha's right...it doesn't make it any less 'ard foh you, does it?" She doesn't say it, but it seems to her like he's trying to justify what happened. The back of her mind thinks of his mother and wonders if it's her fault Terrence can't talk about his feelings about this. Then Varus barges in like the proverbial bull in a china shop, and she scowls. "Sah....I think sometimes beasts staht out fit, then things 'appen an' break theih minds, leavin' 'em like shells o' the creatahs they were befoh, sah." Is she talking about him? Maybe? She'll never say one way or the other. "But jus' 'cause somethin' 'ad t'be done doesn't make it easy oh light'earted, beggin' y'pahdon, sah. 'Tis good t'mourn if y'feel th'need...sah." Maybe talking to Varus right now isn't the best option in the world since she hasn't eaten yet and that tends to make some does cranky...

On account of having his back to most of the room as he faced the breakfast table, Terrence had hardly noticed Varus until he spoke. "Oh! Sah."
Food now thoroughly forgotten the master sergeant spins around and stands up straighter. "Truth be told -" as he speaks he stares at some point beyond both Felicity and Varus, "Zolomon's death was something I'd come to terms with soon after he was banished, I think. He proved faithless then, and spiralled further and further..." His eyes close. "I'd feared even back then when he and I worked with Elbio that I might have to kill him if he continues as he did then, but thankfully managed to avoid that, for a time...." Trailing off he waves a paw. "It's better that I did it than some other private of ours, at least, and it was better for Zolomon to die by the sword rather than pierced by arrows and struck by stones."

Varus hmmphs. He has his own opinions on the lack of discipline in the ranks. Whatever happened to the Major in charge of the Home Guard, anyway? "Ah, well... 'E was askin' for it. I confess I don't rightly recall this Zolomon fellow, but I reviewed 'is file in th' Records room. 'E was a trouble-makah, an' tha's no doubt, I'm afraid. Seems 'e's been compared to a... Hanzi, or somebeast o' th' name. Can't say as I remembah 'im, eithah, but there are so many 'ares t' keep track of, o' course..."

Felicity is now getting frustrated, but holds it back. She came to comfort Terrence, and while she doesn't believe him when he says he came to terms with it and it was better this way and whatever. She also is being reminded why she doesn't like working directly with high-ranking hares (although Greg is pretty cool). She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly, releasing all the anger as she does so. Her lips then purse and she decides she needs to do some self-care. "Y'know, I 'aven't 'ad breakfast yet. 'Scuse me." She walks away from the bucks (she's not in uniform because she's not on duty, so she may ignore anything other than a direct order) and gets in the breakfast line and starts piling up on food. This gives her a breather to gather her thoughts so she doesn't say something stupid.

Eyes following Felicity as she moves on, Terrence shrugs. "He was a trouble maker, but he was manageable when he was a corporal. I think that was Major Jinora's thought when she made him one, so he could learn. " Terrence shakes his head. "Should have had at least three seasons more of that before he was ever considered for another promotion, but that's not how things worked out. He grits his teeth. "Though next time if brass decide to promote someone in my patrol that I know isn't fit - /yet/ - for the role, I'm going to make a stink of it. Thankfully they haven't since, however," his features soften, "So maybe they've learned better of it."
With another sigh Terrence turns back to his food and finishes eating. "Daresay Zolomon was capable of doing better than Hanzi, and I wish he did." And he leaves it at that.

Varus shakes his head. "Well, I'll agree wi' y' there. P'raps I should air mah grievances. An' just where are any o' th' Majahs now? This...Jinora, y' speak of. Apparently she's off elsewhere. So who is bloody left 'ere currently? I can only find references to retired Majahs. The Recordah won't let me see any o' th' othah records highah than a captain. Says it's... Doctah's ordahs. I tol' 'im tha's poppycock." He purses his lips. "Nevah mind any o' this, Sahgeant. It's not yahr problem. It seems th' Gen'ral is tryin' t' keep me in th' dahk about somethin', but I'll figure it out eventually..."

Felicity has reached the end of the line and has been accosted by some Privates who are going on the mission but thinking bombarding her with questions is better than talking to one of the officers who's actually going. She ends up having to give them some of her shouts. "I DON'T BLOODY WELL KNOW! ASK TH'MASTAH SERGEANT OH SOMEBEAST WHO'S /ACTUALLY GOIN'/ ON THIS MISSION! NOW LET ME EAT M'FOOD IN PEACE, AN' THA'S AN ORDAH, WOT!" She marches back to sit at Terrence's table, now thoroughly in a terrible mood. Good thing she missed the last bit of the conversation before she got back...

Terrence isn't quite sure how to handle either hare, so he silently clears his dishes. "Sah," he bites the bullet when he returns, too tired at the moment to carry on the ruse - and giving him a reason to ignore the irate Felicity for the moment. "That's 'cause you're the current major of the patrol, but you don't remember that."

There's a long moment of dead silence, and several nearby hares turn, to look, having plainly overheard the exchange. The silence deepens, but then Varus starts coughing. He coughs harder, and seems to wheeze. And then it becomes apparent that he isn't coughing. He's laughing, as if he's heard the most insane joke ever written.

Felicity nearly chokes on her oatmeal with honey, crystallized fruits, greensap milk, and assorted nuts mixed in. She looks between the two, not sure what to do. When it's clear the Major is laughing, she gives Terrence a look that plainly says /WHAT DID YOU JUST DO/.

Terrence isn't joining in the mirth, his frown deepening. It might be the most serious look Varus has ever seen (if he looks up). "Sah, how many times have hares said 'major' to you before switching to what you've called yourself? Or why you aren't allowed to see the records? And why the bloody hell /you're uniform has the rank of major on it?!"

Varus stops laughing, and he fixes Terrence a hard look. "This is not funny, Sahgeant. Everybeast knows I passed over a promotion so I could stay in the field. And you KNOW I was retired, but you lot came crawlin' to me on yahr bloody paws 'n' knees wantin' me t' take ovah again!" His voice is starting to rise in pitch, whilst simultaneously one of his migraines starts to return again. "You lot needed a Majah aftah y' went an' bungled up yahr attack in Mossflowah! Remembah tha'? Yahr leadahship was sorely lackin' back then, wasn't it? It's a damnable situation."

Felicity grabs her tray (no way is she leaving her oatmeal, blueberry scones, mint tea, fruitcake, cheddar cheese, and rye bread slices behind) and starts to ease out of her chair, trying to slowly and inconspicuously get away from this conversation. Nope, nothing to see here. She also has no idea how to help, so she's just quietly edging away, giving Terrence a /sorry, bro, can't help/ look. Super helpful, here, yeah.

"Yes, and a major is a field commander," Terrence presses, "And you were brought back to be major alongside Jinora, seasons ago - when I was a corporal." He's remarkably calm. "The patrol did needed a major after the deaths in Mossflower - like my father-" He stops shrugging again, "And they choose you. "

Varus' jaw clenches, and he seems to suddenly be on the verge of a collapse, or a mental breakdown. "I was leadin' th' 23rd when you were in diapahs! An' then Sebastian ordahed that th' Patrol needed t' downsize. An' guess who was considahed obsolete?!" Too many memories are clashing together at once and his headache is increasing exponentially. "You lot 'ave always considahed us eldahs t' be ultimately expendable, really." His vision is getting a bit hazy. "But didn't I go out there when Dominik an' Felicity were missin'? Or was that Konnah? I can't keep track. Bloody 'ell."

"Considering it was hares your age or older that made the call, sah," Terrence is regretting starting this now. The entire dining chamber had gone deathly quiet... "I'd hardly blame us 'young ones'. I fear we may be expendable to them just as much as you are." He let's the dark thought hang in the air for a moment before continuing, "And you did that mission to find Dom and Konner - and yes, it /was/ Konner."
Konner was a few tables away and at this point had sunken deep in his chair, his ears red.
"And where do you think we're going?" The master-sergeant can't keep the incredulous note out of his voice, "The 23rd! We're hoping that'll jog some of your bloody memories - it isn't meant to be a Sunday stroll, sah."

Varus starts to fall back into a nearby chair, and he waves a paw airily. "Yes, tha' was mah wife's doin', I'm sure." He clears his throat. "Sahgeant Cadwallader, if y' could call for a healah, I'd be grateful. I'm afraid mah headache 'as come back. If yah want, tha's an ordah from yahr Majah."

Terrence stiffens, standing at attention. There's a brief flash of fear as he realises he may have ruined the whole operation, but maybe not - "Of course sah, right away, sah!" With that, Terrence excuses himself. There was a /LOT/ to do now - as soon as he finds a healer fit for the job he sends them over to the major, hoping things aren't /too/ bad.

Felicity sets her tray down. "I'll get y'somethin' t'drink, sah." She gets him some hot mint tea and hands it to him with a smile. "I doubt th' 'Ealahs will 'ave an issue with mint tea, wot! Tastes jolly nice, too, wi' th' 'oney th'cook added." She lets someone else get the Healer. She's not sure the argument was a good thing, but she's not going to say a word about any of it.

Varus accepts the tea, and sips it carefully. "Thank you," he answers Felicity. And when the healer finally arrives, they give him the pain medication Varus has been using to manage his headaches. After, the older hare will retire to his quarters for a long rest.
