Hey all, I know I've been quiet around here for a while.
Recently I rediscovered some drawings I'd made of MUCK characters and sent to Blisa via Facebook; figured I'd post 'em here.
Chud Streambattle, circa 2016 by IRL calendar. Honestly, he hasn't changed much since then.
Portrayal of LilyMoore and Chud inspired by this scene: https://www.rwmuck.org/wiki/%22Good_dee … ssing_Zork
Group portrait of DoraRose and Emyuil's original family back in Tuscani when they were young.
Right. thanks Elmef for clearing that up. I wasn't trying to be confrontational. It was more that I misunderstood the intentions of the post. I wasn't aware of what exactly was going to happen and I wasn't sure that this wasn't intended to overwrite the actions of other players. Which was my main worry. I hope we can all come to a mutually agreeable outcome in this matter. If it's just a revival then I'm all for it. The concern is more about invalidating the works of others and/or doing things without agreement. Again. sorry if I came off as combative. This caught me off guard more than anything.
Hmmm...For Nightbreath, I picture Ben Kingsley, especially in his role as Bagheera in the recent live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book.
Chud is just me. Maybe a bit more...I dunno, rustic-sounding? But basically me, with similar inflections and such.
Emyuil is a hard one. When he's younger it's Bryce Papenbrook as Eren in the English dub of Attack on Titan, but sometimes I think the voice of Ivan Moody, lead singer of Five Finger Death Punch, suits him better.
Zarok...is really hard. His voice is raspy and, well, reptilian. I really don't know who would voice him. Same with Terfil. Although Terfil doesn't talk much
Wanderer, aka Nightbreath/Emyuil/Zarok/Chud here, and formerly Feanor. Although I may revive him eventually...anyhow.
Now, I haven't been active in the Patrol for quite some time, but as Otter, through Blisa, says, nobody but Otter has authority to tell others what to do. Therefore, we players are equals, and therefore the following opinion is equally valid as it would be if I were active in the Patrol:
I'm with Blisa on this one. And it's generally considered common courtesy to make sure you aren't stepping on anybeast's toes before you try to make drastic changes to an established group/setting/faction/etc. I don't know if you checked or not, but judging by the reactions in this thread I'd say not. So, I'm not chastising you or anything. Just giving some friendly advice. This game is all about community and interaction; shouldn't we try to include as many players as possible?
Permission to take over a major part of the MUCK's setting, like the Patrol, should come from Otter, in my opinion, as it could impact many other players' experiences. Just like we don't let just anyone become Abbot of Redwall, or Champion of Redwall. Salamandastron and command of the Long Patrol are, I'd say, too weighty a position for a player to take it upon themselves to take up without the prior approval of Otter. He has the final say on all matters that affect the MUCK as a whole. And on pretty much everything else.
Frankly, I hope this doesn't turn into an argument; I think Lutea and Riley's ideas may prove useful, and I'd love to rejoin the Long Patrol. However, I'd rather stick to the established order of things rather than discarding or overruling the previous works of other players who have been keeping things going.
I'm sure this will work out. But if needed, I, too, will email Otter for a firm judgement on the matter.
I completely support the plan of removing the Champion from the position of being tied to just one player. Makes events a lot easier, and generally makes things feel more...I don't know...organized. And we don't have to rely on one player who may or may not be around when needed. And if it's good enough for Otter and the other fine beasts supporting the idea...well, I'd say it's good enough for me.
Also:
For the family thing....I'm just wanting players to not have the feeling of power that having a character that is attached to the Champion would bring. 'Cause even being married to or the parent/sibling/child/fill-in-the-blank-relative of the Champion is sort of a position of power. And could basically be a disaster.
This is super important. I can see a case for *maybe* allowing it on a case by case basis if ABSOLUTELY necessary at Otter's discretion. But honestly it'd be best to not even open that can of worms in my opinion. The Champion stands alone.
Now, as for the Champion herself:
I'd suggest a hedgehog. Mostly because I don't see hedgehogs used on the MUCK much, nor do they (with the exception of Tansy) ever really seem to take center stage in the books. It's also be a nice way of playing with the idea of hedgehogs not being warlike or particularly heroic, or just plain being main character material at all. I just think it would be cool/fun, too, to see a species used in a way they aren't usually. (Remember the Warrior Mole in Sable Quean? That was *awesome*. At least I thought it was.)
As for a backstory, I'll leave that to less scatterbrained and wiser heads than mine. But for a name? I'd suggest something woodlander-ish. Whether or not she's going to have an ordinary woodlander life But also a name that hints at hidden strength. Maybe a surname like Ironbark or Stoneflower or something. And for a first name I'd suggest...
Matilda. If I recall correctly, it translates to "Warrior." And a warrior is what this (insert species here) is gonna be.
I'd say before any decisions are made/characters created, however, we should wait maybe a week or two for other players to give input. That way we don't have people upset later because they didn't get a chance to give input. And, y'know, it'd be fair.
Vladmir, evil fox, nemesis of DoraRose, and, eventually, the whole Mossflower region. Killed Scioto's wife and son, left Blisa alive to take as a hostage while she was an infant. Lots of craziness. Captured Oz, Leon, couple others, allied with NPC monitor lizards and besieged Redwall. Until his second-in-command, a raven named Lenore, did him in with one of his own daggers to the throat. Rest in pieces.
