Bandit and Dylan are the only alts I currently didn't let slip into the oblivion of p-wipe.
Bandit is a bit gruff and heavy.
Dylan is high pitched and squeaky
ALTERNATE VERSION:
For those who like a few more stats and a few more dice types to roll.
Your character sheet looks like this:
Cosmetics: Name, species, gender, age, description, items etc.
Job: Your job. adds 1d8 to your roll if applicable.
Skills: Things you are good at. you start with two. Each skill gives you +1d6 to a roll, if it applies.
Traits: You get 4 points, each point can by a new trait or add increase the traits value. Traits can be both good and bad depending on the situation. Being the head guard can give you a bonus in a fight, but work against you in other areas. Each trait, or each level of a trait, adds or subtracts 1d4 to your roll.
When resolving a conflict, you roll 1d10 + <your job, 1d8> + <skills: 1d6> + <traits: 1d4> against the level of difficulty. If your roll is higher than or equal than the difficulty, you pass. If not, and if the action carried some kind of physical danger, you gain a Danger point. At any time if you roll equal or below your danger level, you suffer dire consequences. Death, capture, taking a wounded trait etc.
If you roll below your danger stat, but succeed in the roll, you preform an epic, dangerous action that removes all Danger points.
DIFFICULTY: There are three levels of difficulty. Tasks that don't carry danger should be d8's, but any action that carries the possibility of death or severe consiquences should be rolled with d12's.
1d12: moderate.
2d12: high danger. Fighting multiple enemies or a rival of equal strength.
3d12: Extreme danger. You are outnumbered or facing a giant snake monster or you are talking a crowd out of lynching you.
You also add +1d4 for every trait that works against you.
Thanks!
I might change it to just d20 in the future, as it is a little geared towards failure this way. At most you have a 50/50 change with out mods
Example:
Bandit the Male Fox
Danger: 0
Description: A brown furred fox. Despite being very, very plump, his hide has several scars, suggesting at a life much harsher than it is now.
Stuff: Wears an apron and a vest.
Job: Baker
Skills:
Sword fighting- Skilled with blades.
Baking - good with creating deserts and breads
Qualities:
Ex pirate: he knows his way around blades
Retired head guard: Bandit used to have a commanding presence, both with his station and skills with the blade.
Flaws:
2 Obese: Bandit's health is very poor.
A simple Redwall themed rpg you can do in 5 easy steps.
Making a Character:
Step One, Cosmetics:
Name:
Gender and species:
DANGER: starts at 0 (explained later)
Brief Description:
Stuff they are carrying:
Step Two: What is their job / source of living? Example, warrior, freelancer, thief, farmer, bookseller, village idiot, etc.
Step Three: Name TWO skills they are good at. Example, sword fighting, archery, farming, charming, tough, etc etc
Step Four(Optional): Qualities and flaws. Qualities are special perks your character enjoys and give you +1 to your dice roll. They can be privileges you enjoy, like being the ruler of the kingdom, having items of note like being in possession of the Sword of Martin. Or perhaps they are rare talents that make you special, like being the number one archer in all of Mossflower.
New Characters can start with ONE Quality, existing characters can start with THREE, but every quality you take, or gain later on, must be accompanied by a FLAW. Flaws can be personality quirks, failings, or circumstances that work against you.
Unlike Qualities, Flaws can STACK. So instead of taking two flaws, you can take a higher level one.
Step Five: Learn how it all comes together
Conflicts and dice rolling: Most conflicts can be resolved with out dice, but when failure can change the story for the worse, you roll 1d8. You can upgrade the type of dice depending on if you bring your job or skills into play. For every job or skill that applies to the given situation, upgrade the dice by one type.
1d8 becomes 1d10. 1d10 becomes 1d12.
The largest dice you can roll is 1d12. Extra skills add +1 to your dice roll. Qualities never upgrade your dice, but always add +1 to rolls. Every flaw that is applicable will subtract from your roll.
EXAMPLE: Fox is a warrior but has no skills in archery. He rolls 1d10 to use a bow, and add's or subtracts any Qualities or Flaws to the total rolled.
SUCCESS and FAILURE and Glorious horrible CONSEQUENCES
rolling 7+ is considered a success. You hit the enemy, you talked your way past the guard, you figured out your taxes, etc etc. The extent of the success is up to the GM.
Most of the time, failing a roll simply changes the story. When in dangerous situations, failure adds +1 to your DANGER stat. The DANGER stat slowly builds over time. When rolling for conflicts, if you roll at or below your DANGER stat, you suffer dire consequences. You can get captured, you can get knocked out, or you get wounded.
The GM and player can work out the exact consequence, but the GM has final say. If you are wounded, you take a new temporary flaw to reflect the damage at the level the DANGER stat was at the time you failed the roll. The Danger stat will then reset to 0.
EXAMPLE: Fox has a DANGER stat of 2. He swings his sword at an enemy and rolls a 2. Not only does he fail, but he takes a level 2 wound. Until the wound is addressed in story and given time to heal, he rolls -2 to his rolls.
If it becomes impossible to roll a success in combat, you are considered defeated or are killed.
You can remove DANGER by rolling 10+, or when the scene ends.
And... that's it. Make a character, have fun. Post any questions you have
I created Cali:
She is a traveling bard who might become a merchent later on.
She's a bubbly, happy, otter bard who knows how to throw a mean right hook.
I'm going to bring a bounty hunter of sorts >.>
Its actually not the first time Bandit has been in shape. He got slim when he left redwall and its many feasts but as he continued to get wounded he couldnt move about like in his youth and eventually the pounds came back.
But sure, a he man barbarian warrior bandit is not out of the question
I use potato mu cliant.
It lets me do multi paragraph posts and in color (for myself)
Alternate time lines are always fun.
I would assume that most of my 20 + characters either met a horrible fate or joined a horde.
Dylan would still be a bandit... No change there.
Xia would never have taken the job that got her eaten by an eagle.
Wilks would never have been made into stew for lizards.
Rioko, Fargo, Vannon, Liam, Brookshire and etc would have joined the horde.
Aata and Lalia the otter chefs would be probibly captured by villains.
Bandit's fate would be... Open. His backstory would have been a simple wandering thief / mercenary and ex pirate.
Im ready when everyone else is
It would be nice to have a redwall forum rp again, as all the other redwall forum sites have sadly, been overran by the vermin hordes of time.
I can bring a character.
I see the head guard being an antagonist. Not in the sense of being a villain, but someone whom the characters do not particularly enjoy getting a visit from.
She can be a perfectly nice person but at the end of the day she collects taxes, she enforces laws, she evicts people, she has to break up fights and toss people into the jail. She is there to make sure things run smoothly about the town and is not afraid to step on peoples toes to keep them in line.
I imagine her to be a rat. Small, average build, not fat but not skinny, not muscular but not sleek either. She's built very plain and squarish with scars from past mistakes and generally greets people with a 'I am so done with you' scowl.
I also imagine her to be very short, and yes, secretly enjoys cookies.
Also, I think she would be the one guard to actually keep prisoners in jail XD There has been so many beasts actually escaping jail in FV they might as well put a revolving door there, so she might be a little quick to jump right to stabbing dangerous creatures rather than risking the lives of her guards trying to capture them.
Or... she can be a complete dirt bag and hate the paperwork of recruiting more beasts more than actually losing them.
You are evil xD
Alright. Im calling the poll over. Mossflower will soon be graced by the presence of Bandit the Baker. I havnt decided yet if he has a vixen in tow >w>
I like the idea of him being rescued by seals and being kept as a sort of pet where he learns the secrets of their baking ways.
Whether or not its true or a fib... Thats for the reader to decide >w>
Bandit is doomed xD
So far the polls are:
1. Life of peace: 0
2. Life of Vice: 2
3. Married: 0
4. Vermin: 1
5. Prisoner: 1
6. Other: 2
A.
B. 1
C.
D. 3
E.
F.
G. 1
H.
I. 1
So far Baker is winning.
I plan to wrap up on sunday. I might be a bit slow as IRL has given me the worst week imaginable.
Thank you to all who have voted so far.
I do wonder if players want to see Bandit healthier or make him a big marshmellow ball of foxy fluff.
Let's get this started then, shall we?
There are two polls to vote for. Please leave a comment below with your choices to vote. I'll let this poll run for a week and wrap it up Sunday.
The last time we saw Bandit he was about 33 years (16.5 seasons) old, very heavy set, full of scars from past battles, and retiring early from FV Head Guard because of his health.
He has been gone icly for over a year. So... what did he do in all that time?
1. Pursing a life of peace, giving up the sword and burying the hatchet with his enemies. Living like normal beast folk somewhere away from the chaos of Mossflower.
2. Pursing every vice under the sun. Drinking, gambling, eating his weight in pastries. Devoting his life to living fast, dying young, and leaving a pickled corpse.
3. Getting married! Bandit finally settled down and found himself a vixen to get hitched with!
4. Getting in touch with his vermin roots. Becoming more aggressive and becoming more criminal.
5. A prisoner. Be it woodlanders he has wronged, or... vermin he has wronged, or just the same tribe of cannibal lizards that at Wilks. Etc etc. He's been behind bars.
6. Something not on the list. (please leave us your story as a comment below!)
<><><><><><>
The next question is, what role does he have now?
A. Bounty hunter.
B. An actual bandit.
C. Traveling Merchant.
D. Baker
E. Sherriff
F. Bard
G. Mercenary
H. Unemployed, still enjoying his retirement.
I. DEAD. Bandit died somewhere off screen! Oh no! (No, I don't plan to actually kill him off, but if you have a good idea how he died then I might make a short story of it or use it with another character )
So, to recap. All you have to do is leave a comment below with your votes in each category. Example: 'I vote for 1 and F!'
Feel free to have fun with it. If you have a story idea for Bandit, please feel free to leave it in the comments below.
So... It has been over a year since I last played Bandit icly, give or take a few months. Work is a major factor but also because after 4 years of playing the glutton food thief turned head guard, I... Kind of finished his story arch.
Bandit has been: a thief. A pirate. A warrior for redwall. A spy. An adventurer. A head guard... He's been a jack of trades and I really just ran out of things for him to do.
But I dont want him to fade into obscurity nor do I want to just kill him off, so I did the next logical thing any writer would do.
I decided to leave his fate in the hands of the players.
Because that worked out soooo well for my story teller Wilks <w<
I need help deciding how Bandit has spent his retirement from head guard of FV. Its been a season, maybe two since we saw him leave.
Before I make the poll, I want to know how exactly you guys want me to run it. Do you want to vote for what he has become (bounty hunter, merchant etc), vote for where he has been ( off adventuring, drinking uimself into oblivion etc etc), a combination of both or something completely different?
Oh hey! People are replying to this xD
Glad to see people are getting involved. Send my alt dylan a page for ideas
The other day I used the ex command on Bandit. Wow! Come July 29th I will have been on this game for 4 years. That is longer than I have devoted to most MMO's
So I am going to take a bit of break. I still have some plots to finish up but mostly I am going to be lessoning the ammount of time I will be here.
In the mean time I am also thinking about giving Bandit a reason not to be around and decided to let the forum have a say in what happens to him. Bandit has been involved in much of the stories here so everyone has the right to determine his fate to a degree. You are welcome to sugest if he goes on vacation, gets fired, moves away, gets eaten by eagles etc etc
Unlike Wilks, who I actually did kill off after the forum voted for it, I wont promis that I will give my first character here the Ax, but if you want to suggest I kill off the gluttonous head guard how he should meet his end you are by all means welcome to as well
So forum, what should I do with Bandit while I am away?
I'll start us out. Let's see if I can remember them all.
Carlos- a squirrel who had been uplifted from being an npc. Be died in his very first rp as an alt. Stabbed by Radio the bandit leader.
Travis-Mouse part of the Mossflower Militia, a woodlander villain group out to purge vermin from the woods. Died during an invasion of Redwall, he was helping the allies only to further his own agenda, died when Bassilisk the snake used him like a rag doll and tossed him over the walls.
Drakki- Mercenary red fox who was part of the Kannezzer horde that never took off. While fleeing the horde he was caught by another players snake who to dragged him away to become a pet. Aluded to never being seen again.
Xia- a brown fox who was made randomly, she started out as a body guard and branched out into bird hunting. She became good at it, let her ego get the best of her and took on an eagle. Needless to say she failed.
Wilks -made from the same random gen as xia and died a simular way. A silver fox (black fur) he was fattened up by lizards for dinner and in the escape he sacrificed himself to lead the lizards away. His fate ultimately, was decided via voting with a resounding 100% voting to kill him off.
Meesha- another uplifted npc and once part of Dylan's gang. She was a thiefy ferret and one of the last surviving members of the Silent Blades. She got into a fight with a cannabal otter and...lost. Just to clarify, no, the otter was not my character xD
I feel sad that I need to clarify that. But thats 6 alts over 3 years.
EDIT:
Carter -corrupt otter guard in redwall. Snuck into the pantry while vermin occupied the abbey and met a monitor lizard looking for a late night snack...
Thata 7 fatalities, 5 of them were eaten >.> unless I forgot anyone else.
Over the years I have visited quite a few MUCKS, MUSHS, MUX, even a few rp (cringe) MUDS and while each is different there is one striking difference between this site and others...
Our Ridicuously high Mortality rate. Characters tend to appear and die faster than the black plauge here. Not that Im complaining of course, I myself am just as guilty as everyone else. I thought it would be interesting though to to post how many characters we have lost icly, and on screen.
All you need is a summary of who the char was and the method they kicked the proverbial bucket.
EXAMPLE: Bandit was a fluffy gluttonous fox who picked a fight with a badger.
After some long deliberation I have decided to be /that guy/. You know the one, that guy. The one who thinks, "Oi! Thar not be enough excuses for random violence here!" and so he makes a Vermin Horde and plops it down in the middle of Mossflower.
Yeah.../that guy/.
Now, right about here you are most likely having one or two reactions.
"You cant just plop a horde into the middle of mossflower D: this will mess with all my plots!" Hmmm, probibly. I wont say it wont but Mossflower is big enough to hold more than one one ongoing plot.
"But hasnt this all been done before? I'm pretty sure Redwall has a revolving door for villains invading them at this point?" Short answer, yes, and I think I've seen enough horde plots fail to know what went wrong.
Do not be mistaken, this is not another short TP idea that will wrap up in at summers end. This is a long lasting public event to give players plot hooks.
This horde will be a threat to mossflower, not just Redwall. Infact Redwall wont even be their initial goal but the woods around it. Whether or not the horde does take interest with redwall is up to rp.
Players will have not just random bandits to spawn into their stories but foes who are actively working against them. A group of horde npcs will have much more easily managable reasons to go beyond robbing you on the road, instead disrupting daily afairs in a village, blocking up a river, or targeting characters specifically to attack them.
I havnt contributed much to the game in the past year, mostly I have been focused on side plots and one shot stories. Perhaps this will help other people with their stories as well.
That...and well to be honest Im kind of tired of waiting for stars to align for my own plots. Normally I cast out feelers in the form of forum posts to test the waters and see if people are interested before commiting to an idea. Not this time, this time I am just going to build something up and let people use it. Which brings me to the final part:
Who runs this?
Essentially, you do. There are still a few details I need to finalize before doing this but the basic setting is this horde is the advance scouting parting for a larger army to the south. While the main army finishes picking over the bones of their latest conquest this group searches the area for places to loot or burn to the ground.
This group will be controlled by a sharable npc. He's a bit off kilter to explain the differences in play style, it also allows easy use to make him unstable, meaning that one player can have him be buddies with players one day, and then backstab them on a whim the next day.
Assuming...of course he isnt killed and replaced by players or other npcs.
WHO CAN JOIN AND AS WHAT?
Anyone and anything
WHEN WILL YOU STOP TYPING HERE AND GET THIS DONE AND READY TO GO?
Soon...in the next few weeks.
