Ahndia shouldn't be so mopey! or Odira's chatty? When did that change? or The perks of being a novice

Redwall Abbey entry

Odira, Ahndia, squirrels. Cera, ferret

Cera walks out from the champions home and blinks at the sunshine and clouds.

Ahndia is still not feeling... great, to say the least. She's curled up with her head on her mother's shoulder, and they sit, leaning against the main abbey building, in the grass. Ahndia's obviously been crying. Odira's speaking to her quietly.

Cera tilts her head and walks over slowly, she stops within speaking distance, "H..hello..is all ok?"

Ahndia buries her head in Odira's habit. Odira frowns and raises her daughter's face witha paw under the chin. "Ahndi, say something. You can't ignore her." Ahndia mumbles. "Yeah, but I don't wanna tell her.. she'll feel bad.." Odira sighs and looks at Cera. "Feel free to join us, young one. Ahndia is still just mopey about Maleficius. There's tea and muffins if you want any." She motions with a paw to a tray beside her.

Cera frowns at the name and lets a tear fall but wipes it away, she sits down, "I..I was just making sure..F..Flicktail was ok, but Leon is there s..so he will be ok."

Ahndia pokes her mother. "See, Mumma, I /told/ you not to mention it!" She groans, still crying, nd buries her face back in the fabric on Odira's shoulder. Odira pats Ahndia while watching Cera intently. "I'm sorry, dear. do'nt mind AHndia. I did hear that you left us for awhile- I'm glad you're back, however. Are you staying?"

Cera nods "I decided t..to stay, and l..learn to be a h..healer, I helped Flicktail y..yesterday, he..." She frowns a little, maybe still a little worried, "He g..got too hot and..and wo..wouldn't talk right or stay awake, he..he could of died."

Ahndia amuses herself with petting her tail- the repetitive motion calms her a bit. Odira ignores her while she talks to Cera. "Lovely! Well, I'll look forward to seeing you about the infirmary, then. And I'm glad you were there with Flicktail. We've been told to keep an eye on him- strokes are dangerous, and once you have one, it's easier to have a nother. Are you just training, or are you planning on joiing the Order?"

Cera listens "S..Someone s..said if out i..in hot w..weather too long can get ill and I..I am training maube jion the order..i..if can"

"I won't pressure you into a descision, but I will say that joining was one of the best descisions of my life." Ahnda stiffens- her mom rarely talks about her life before Redwall.

Cera says, "I j...j..just want to..to be where feel belong, and not be called vermin or be told not b..belong here, and want to learn healing to help others and led a good life""

Odira groans comically as she pushes Ahndia off of her shoulder. "Move, my child! You have a heavy head and my old shoulders are sore." Ahndia wipes her eyes and sniffs, but sits on her own against the wall, watching the guards patrolling. Odira continues. "If you want to belong, then this is the place, Cera. As far as I know, there really isn't a better place than this. And we'd be glad to have you in the infirmary." Ahndia rubs her eyes and mutters, trying to be helpful. "And you don't get called 'vermin' when you're a novice, 'cause you can't make fun of members of the order."

Cera nods "I..I have been studying the charter and I..I listen to lessons bout the abbey ways and stories and rules..a..and also gonna s..start lessons back with B..Brother Leon on healing" She smiles a little.

Ahndia goes back to being silent while Odira talks. "THe charter is good- you're taught that early on as a novice- Ahndia knew most of it from her dibbun lessons. She was very eager. And if you and Brother Leon ever want some help, or if Leon isn't around, feel free to come to me." She smiles and winks. "I'd be more than willing to help teach a smart girl like you."

Cera smiles, she has been feeling better, maybe not fully better but still better than she was, "O..Ok,..I..a..also play fiddle..s..sort of, I had th..thought of going to Ferravale but will stay here and live, m..maybe visit Ferravale but not live there"

Odira pat's Ahndia's head as she stands. "Fiddle? Lovely. I'm sure if you meet up with Shandar and Casper, you'd be a right ol' concert! And we often have creatures coming and going from here to Ferravale- when you're old enough, you can get permission to go alone. Well, I'm off. I have to get back to work." She takes Ahndia's face in her paws. "Don't be moping about all day, missy. I want to see you working like you should be in the kitchens later, ok?" Giving her daughter a hug, she smiles. "You'll feel beter; promise. Bye Cera, Ahndi." Odira takes her leave.

Cera waves as Odira heads off, she stays in the entry and she isn't sure yet about leaving the area by the cottage just yet

Ahndia looks up. "Were you really at Ferravale?"

Cera nods "O..Once I was, yes..but didnt stay long sort of..s..scary there"

Ahndia wrinkles her nose, making her tear-stained wet fur stick up oddly. "Mumma never let me. She's got a weird history with vermin. She doesn't like it when I leave the walls. Would you go again? I wanna go to see Flicktail and Leon there. I heard that they have a bar, and a hare works there. I've met the cheiftan. He's a cat."

Cera tilts her head, "L..Leon and Flicktail is in there" She points to Flicktails home"c..cause Flicktail is..is ill and needs ta get better and may go back..don't know"

Ahndia cocks her head. "I thought they were still in Ferravale. Huh." She pulls her knees up against her chest. "I'll see him later." She doesn't look to excited. "Well, I should go...The chef'll get mad if I don't show for dinner prep..."

Cera nods and waves a goodbye as she sits by the doorway to Flicktails Cottage.

Ahndia stands slowly, brushing off her habit. "I, uh. I'm sorry 'bout your dad... I only met him once, but he was really nice to me. I don't know what changed." Oh, so /that's/ what's bothering her. "I'll... see you around." She disappears, going around the grounds to the kitchen yard enterance so she doesn't have to go through Great Hall.
