I decided the Redwall branch of the DAB needed its own thread.  So here we are

The first order of business is our next chaos.  How does Saturday July 24th at 1 PM Central Time sound to everyone?  I hope and plan to make it that day.

I apologize profusely to everyone in general and to Dominik in particular for taking so long to post this RP.

SCENE:  Salamandastron catacombs

CHARACTERS:  All hares
Dominik, male.
Julia, female.

LOG:
And so the siege of Salamandastron had come to a close, with the mountain hares of the Patrol coming out victorious, as per usual. Those vermin never seemed to learn their lesson, did they? Dom had done what he usually did in situations such as those...he fought as hard as he possibly could, and those opposing him likely regretted ever setting foot on the sand of the beach. Afterwards, Dom had quietly slipped away, retreating back to his favorite place in the mountain....the catacombs. As usual, he didn't tell anyone where he was going, and so it likely seemed as if he'd just disappeared again. But those in the know likely knew the first place to check...and that was in the large hare's favorite alcove deep beneath the mountain. And sure enough, Dom is there, sitting with his back against the wall, his eyes closed and ears folded back as he rests there quietly.

Strangely, Felicity is too consumed with what's going on between her and Terrence to have yet noticed Dom's disappearance. So it's up to Julia to find him this time. The leveret has slipped away from her sister as the older doe takes a nap and sneaks into the caverns. She thought it would be fine, but as she enters the catacombs, all the scary memories of hearing the battering ram and the rats who got in creep into her mind, and she's only halfway to Dom's alcove when the fear overwhelms her. Julia whimpers, trying not to cry, trying to build up the courage to call out to her friend.

Dominik's ear shifts just slightly, perking a little as it catches the soft, echoing sound of someone whimpering. An eye peeks open as well, and there is a slight shifting and rustling as Dom moves just enough so he can peek his head out of the alcove to take a look down the corridor. He squints a little, having gotten used to the darkness at this point, and he spots a familiar, small figure standing there a short distance away. "Pssst. Julia." The large hare whispers loud enough to be heard. "Must hurry, yes. Come and see Dom." He smiles, before disappearing back into the alcove once again.

Julia hears her friend, and her big green eyes stare at where the sound came from. "I /can't/ *sniffle* too sc...sc...scahed!" The leveret hugs her doll close as tears start to fall down her cheeks. "Whot....whot....whot if we....we get st...stuck down 'ere 'gain??"

Dominik waits for a few moments, and when Julia doesn't arrive at the alcove, Dom pushes himself up from where he'd been sitting against the wall. He steps out into the passageway, and carefully makes his way over towards where Julia is standing. The large hare crouches down so he is as close to her level as he can get, and he gives her his best attempt at a smile. Reaching out a large paw, he attempts to brush away the leveret's tears. "Is okay to be scared. Everyvun gets scared sometimes, even Dom. Is scary place, down here, yes.." he admits. "But is promizing, vil not get stuck down here, Julia. And Julia can trust Dom, yes?"

Julia stays right where she is, looking right into his blue eyes. She lets him wipe away her tears, and once he's done talking, she nods. She goes to take his paw and let him lead her to his alcove if he chooses to. "Bu' we were stuck down 'ere, an' we 'eahd 'em 'ittin' th'dooh, an' some rats got in an' Lissie an' 'er Recruits 'ad t'fight 'em off! I thought we were gonna /die/ down 'ere!!" More tears trickle down her cheeks as she informs him of just how scary it was for her.

Dominik reaches out to take the small haremaid's paw, careful not to squeeze too hard, and he turns to lead her back to his alcove. Upon entering, Dom retakes his seat against the wall, and he pats the spot beside him for Julia to sit as well, if she wished. "Yes. Can understand being scared in situation like this. But, Dom knows your sister is excellent soldier, and she vould protect you vith her life. Leetle Julia means everything to Lissie. Vould not let anything happen to you." The large hare smiles down at Julia. "Besides, rats are...very stupids. Vould not even know vich vay to goes, probably get lost and fall into underground lake." He grins.

Julia sits beside her friend and hugs her doll close. "But /Lissie/ could've died!" The leveret is finally old enough to understand death, and that fighting can lead to it. "I don't /want/ 'er t'die!!" Felicity is the only family Julia has left, and she has come to understand that, too. "An' now Lissie's gotta go lookin' foh Majah Varus. Whot if she nevah comes back??" More tears fall.

Dominik chuckles softly. "Yes, Lissie could've. But, she did not. And she vil not, Dom gives promise." A thought crosses his mind for a moment. "Vould it make leetle Julia feel better if Dom vere to go vith Lissie to find Major Varus? Dom can keep eye on, to make sure that sister vil be okay. Julia knows, ven rats sees Dom, they turn and run avay, yes?" He smiles. "Or, Dom can stay here vith leetle Julia, to keep company until seester gets back. Vil do vatever leetle Julia vants to do...vatever makes feel better."

Julia is now faced with a dilemma. On the one paw, she wants Dom to go with her sister and make sure she's okay. On the other, she wants Dom to stay in Salamandastron to keep her company. She wants both! How can she decide between them?? In the end, she decides to think of someone other than herself. "I want y't'go wi' Lissie an' keep 'er safe. C'n y'do tha'?" Julia turns and looks up at him, her green eyes full of hope and worry at the same time.

Dominik gives Julia a warm smile, his large paw reaching over to give her a gentle pat on the head, followed by a light ruffling between her ears. "Yes. Can do this for leetle Julia. Vil give promise that ve vil return safe and sound. Until then, can spend time vith, yes?" The large hare tilts his head as he peers down at the leveret. "Leetle Julia is very brave, and very selfless for vanting Dom to go vith seester. Dom is very proud of. If there is anything Julia vants Dom to do before ve go, let Dom know, and vil be done."

Julia stands up and goes to hug the buck, ignoring her messed up fur. "Thanks, Dom!" She grins, glowing when he tells her he's proud of her. Her sister does tell her that, but it's something else when a friend tells her that. It obviously meant a lot. After a moment, she asks, "Can we make pie?"

Dominik laughs and nods. "Yes. Ve can make pie. And make beeg mess in kitchen, too. Remember ven Dom got flour everywhere?" He grins down at Julia as she stands, reaching down to take her paw as he goes to lead her out and back into the passageway, intent on following her up to the upper levels.

Julia laughs, too. "That was so funny!" She skips along beside him, intent on having fun....especially if she can get him messy again! Thankfully, their pie turns out to be yummy, and Felicity finds them just in time to share it with them. If only Terrence could be there, too...
