Huh! Thank you for the heads up.
I was able to reproduce the error.
After looking into some crud on the back end the problem seems to be resolved. Please let me know if this recurs with other searches. Let's hope it was a one time hiccup! ![]()
Plus in Redwall's world where cattle doesn't exists and everyone's a sentient animal... where does the leather come from?
I figure vermin use actual leather from animal flesh. And woodlanders manufacture a tree or plant based alternative.
"Leather" made from cork oak bark (same European tree that wine bottle corks come from) is a thing. Not sure if it was a medieval thing, but who's to say our favorite sword-wielding mice aren't craftier than historical humans? ![]()
^ cork leather
Bonus: Cork is flame resistant!
[Comment is about in game use of leather in general—bags, shoes, hats, canteens, belts, ornamental ... I don’t know much about traditional armor.]
Awesome that you're keeping the LP wiki pages up to date, Blisa!
Y'all can create additional pages, if needed... "Long Patrol Medals" or "Long Patrol Training Protocol". Easiest way to do it is to use the search box in the upper right. Type desired title. If no page exists, a red link appears before search results that asks if you'd like to create that page. Click it, add some content, save. That's all it takes!
If it's something that should be linked from the main Long Patrol page, edit that page to add the link. You can follow the format of already existing links. Works like: [[Full Title of Page|What You Want Link to Say]]
Here's a cheat sheet for editing wiki things: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Cheatsheet
Edits can always be rolled back, so no need to worry about screwing something up.
Wikis are cool because everybody gets to contribute. ![]()
If y'all get real adventurous, there are pages for Ferravale, Redwall Abbey, etc that might need info added or updated.
Edit: I don't want to completely derail Blisa's thread, so if anybody has wiki-editing questions, post to the Wiki Help forum and I will answer there.
Sorry to hear about your kitty. Losing an animal friend is hard <3
Aw, very cool! The footware choice was a good one.. he looks set for a long journey.
Always liked this illustration of Basil from one of the old RW hardbacks I had as a kid; the artist did a neat interpretation of ‘facial hair’ on a hare if you want some mustache inspiration
Love when folks post character art here! Keep drawing!
Howdy! Did some recent updates and moved a few things on the back end, and did not realize I broke registration emails while doing so.
Pardon the flub. Should be fixed now.
As always, page-mail Aeysin if you encounter a problem with the forum and are unable to post. Ajax is also frequently online and able to contact me off MUCK re: site issues.
Yo! The wiki had an upgrade and some minor maintenance.
There aren't many active contributors, but those who do might be prompted to create a new pword on their next login. Wanted to give y'all a quick heads up.
Reply here or page-mail Aeysin if you run into any problems.
Think the wiki was down for the last day or so. Server ran out of storage while I was stuck working an event IRL.
All better now!
Love all of these so much! <3
It's been a very long time since I read the books, but Outcast was my first and oh man that Sunflash/Skarlath scene had me bawling!
Blisa, if you use this link...
http://www.mudportal.com/play?host=redwall.realm.limitless.org&port=4203&name=Redwall&separator=... it'll fix the semicolon problem. By default ; is used to pipe commands in the mudportal app, but adding "&separator=" to the end of the URL disables that feature.
I'm into the idea of creating a new list of clients.
There was a list on the old site, but I'm not sure how many of those apps are still maintained.
I use Atlantis on my MacBook, MUSHclient on Windows, and tinyfugue on Linux.
Oh! And MUDRammer on iPhone.
When I brainstorm names I use Wikpedia lists for inspiration. Like List of Greek Mythological Creatures or List of Jazz Musicians or List of Latin Names of Rivers.
Some pals and I constructed a Guosim camp several years back; it's located on the bank of River Moss, roughly opposite Camp Willow. It's not huge, but has the basic RP areas (hospital, lodge, armory, garden, Log-a-Log's tent, etc) as well as a +community room for tents. Y'all are welcome to move in it if it benefits your play. It's not being used in any active plots right now.
Directions: status ic, portal, pra, n, n, n, n, n, n, n, n, n, e, nrm, ur, ur, ur, ur, sp
From Portal, take the Redwall Abbey exit. Go north on the Dirt Road until just before the old stone bridge. Head east into the woods, then north to River Moss. Travel up river until you see a shrouded path.
Once you're in the Entry Path room, type "map" to see a map. Also, those long exit names ([North], [South], etc.) have multiple aliases, so you can typically avoid typing the full exit name; e.g. "n", "s", "e", "w" can be used to navigate.
Hi! Welcome to the MUCK.
TP is a TinyPlot. It describes an organized story arc that spans multiple RPs.
To make another character, follow the same steps you used to create the first. There's no limit on alts, but be aware that they purge if not connected at least once every 42 days.
Here's some articles that might help ya' out with various things:
- Basic Commands
- The OOC Guide to IC Life
- RP and IC
- General Help
Hm. Lee, does it display any sort of error? Are you having problems accessing other sites w/ your phone today?

Aw, love it!
Never been involved with LP apart from random RPs (usually on the side causing IC headaches for 'em), but it's always rad to see renewed interest in the Western Shore--or anywhere on the game, for real. Last winter Riverdale helped me import all public content from the dead Limitless/Drupal site to the wiki at rwmuck.org. Feel free to beautify any old Sala or LP pages there with updated info and styling, if that helps the cause. Also if General IC gets too busy and y'all would like group-specific boards on this forum--i.e., Redwall Order, Long Patrol--that's something we can figure out.
Edit: For that matter, feel free to update anything at all on the wiki. The idea was that the rwmuck.org/archive preserves 'historical' content from the Limitless site, while the wiki can be community maintained, so there's not as much need to make new pages each time a player moves on or takes a break from the MUCK.
And as for whether the "From outside:" crud is displayed:
Rooms parented to Vehicle Listen Parent will show that text. Rooms parented to Vehicle No-Listen Parent will not.
Ya can switch a room's parent with @tele...
@tele here=#dbref of correct parentHave you tried +lock instead of @lock? I think they do the same thing, but might be worth a shot. :p
If I set
+lock here=vcontrol=$~anyoneon the boarding room of a vehicle, it appears to allow various alts to pilot it.
Maybe set
+lock here=vcontrol=!$~anyoneon the vehicle parent. That'll turn off driving by default for all rooms under the parent/in the vehicle. Then do
+lock here=vcontrol=$~anyonefor each room that should allow characters to pilot the vehicle.
Not sure why the lock would unset from character to character. They can be finicky though.
Thank you for this research! I've always liked how flexible the RW world can be re: its tech, because, like ya' said, it's not set in a real-world time period. Also the universe is huge, so it makes sense that groups would be at different stages of tech development--i.e., Salamandastron is coastal and neighbors at least one busy seaport, so it's probably going to be exposed to more advanced tech (due to trade) than landlocked rural places like the abbey.
Last time management said anything about IC tech, if I remember right: as long as something's not absurd or going to create an unfair advantage for one group, go for it! Sooo like... AR-15? Nah. But if a primitive cannon were to show up in a pirate battle... ![]()
I love the National Aquarium! Thanks for sharing photos. Looks like ya' had a fun trip!
