Elbio was taking his time getting to the mountain, a couple of Privates and a Corporal helped him, knowing he needed some breaks as he has just recently been able to stand and take a few steps so the trip is a lot of leaning on another hare and finally just needing to rest on the beach while a runner goes on ahead.

Ciana stays close"Could always camp on the beach dad, could be fun" She offers a smile.

Elbio just chuckles "Maybe, but at the moment, I dislike sand and have only very recently been trying to walk."

Ciana sits by him"Your doing fairly well, I mean  you were told right before Winter you would never walk again and look"She smiles "You have managed to stand and well...sort of walk...a few feet and with A LOT of help."

It seems the runner did indeed find someone who happen to be checking with the hares on sentry duty. Along the sands and coming into view is Ciocan himself, at either side of him is a hare, as well as a couple behind him. The badger quickens his pace when he sees Elbio and is in front of the hare before he knows it. A large smile "Elbio, I did not think I would be seeing you, how are you?"

Elbio slowly stands, a little off-balance, and gives a salute, doing his best to hide the pain shooting up both legs. He is, in a way, glad of the pain as it proves his legs are continuing to get feeling back in them, and are protesting being forced to be used too much.

Ciana gives a salute as well"Hallo, your Lordship"

Ciocan helps the Lt. to stay stood up. A smile as he gently has him sit down. He nods to Ciana "Young Ciana, good to see you as well, have you taken good care of your father?"

Elbio allows himself to be seated"She has helped me a lot, so has an otter maid named Nala, a healer from Halyard." He smiles as he hears voices and glances up shore"Oh yeah I found some friends on de way back here."

It's the GUOSIM!

Or least some of them, at the lead, is Log-a-log Xavier and about three other shrews "Hello ya old badger, good ta see ya still de badger in charge of de mountain"He nods to the others "Some of me clan..De other 3-4 be with Oswald. in Halyard."

Leigh is one of the shrews with Log-a-log. She came along to make sure Elbio didn't get too tired or sore. It seems she is still the main healer.

Ciana steps aside to let the shrews pass her and sighs, shrews were just slightly annoying to her, all the way up the beach.

Ciocan offers a smile "Well, good to see you Log-a-log. Glad to see the clan is doing well." He looks at Elbio. "Let's get you inside."He will offer to carry the hare,  unless the hare would rather not be carried. "Also Log-a-log you and your shrews are welcome to stay a couple of days in my mountain as my guests"

Elbio doesn't care if he is carried, it will make the trip faster, that and it is getting rather close to dinner time.

Back at the Mountain A couple of hours later

Elbio relaxed in the chair, it felt nice to be in the leader's office again. Dinner was good too, then dinner was always nice at Salamanstron.

Velm poked his head in and his eyes widen as he comes in "It's true, you....you are back"

Elbio smiles "Hallo..Captain"He salutes "And yeah, though can't say I am truly walking..just a few steps, with help and I can stand a couple of minutes  I figure therapy in the Recover room"He smiles "I can recover more."

Velm is happy and it shows "I am glad, very glad and happy for you Elbio. And yes yes...me and my healer staff will get ya walking in no time, hmm maybe a walking staff if needed as well."

Donica appears at the doorway of the office, she clears her throat "I needed to inform Velm of something important real quick"

Elbio nods, a wave to Donica "Go ahead"

Velm glances at Donica "Wot is it dear?"

Donica walks over "Well. I had not been feeling all that  great the past week and a half, and so got it checked out. I am fine and  tis not...something to worry about, not something others can  catch like a cold.."She smiles "I'm with dibbun"

The response from Velm is silence

And then a thud as he hits the floor after fainting.

Elbio frowns "Well, he is excited I am sure, sadly I can't help him right now."

Donica gasps and quickly rushes over, after making sure her husband is ok, she goes to get some help from a couple of Privates to get him to a couch to lay down and she sits beside him" Well didn't expect that reaction."She chuckles and finally looks at Elbio, oh yeah he hasn't been here in l;ike a while "By the way, seen you at dinner time in the mess hall. Glad to see your back or is it a visit only?"

Elbio replies "I am likely here till maybe late spring or early Summer, then gonna go to the abbey with a small group of hares that will be looking to see what can be done with that old post 67 in Mossflower. Hopefully get it fixed up again, be good ta have it in mossflower, just in case extra help is ever needed." Anyhow, I think I will get to my room."He has a wheeled chair someone got from the infirm he will use to get to his room down the hall, then he can figure out how to get around after some rest.

It felt good to be back.

I decided to write this as a short story since some have left forum mail and thanks for checking up on me.
So here is a short story to help everyone know how to react to Lt. Elbio condition and how he gets to Halyard to live there, my guess is not ALL areas of Halyard are as rough as some if there is a small group of retired hares of the Long Patrol living there, likely in the same area. I mean Varus even mentioned his character lived there and maybe has family there and think a couple of others mentioned some family in Halyard also. Ok on to the story.

Also quick note: Velm did send me a couple poses to use so yes did have his permission to include him in the story.

Elbio could sit up fairly well and his many wounds were healing nicely. He was still sore in places, but that was normal. His lower back had been hurting a bit off and on but he figured from having to lay down for so long. With a deep breath, he had to see how well he could stand and maybe risk a couple of steps. If he was going to get better they would be having him stand and walk short distances anyway soon enough. He decided he would stay the winter, head back to the abbey in the spring was his plan. He could have Rufus tell the abbey to not worry about him, he could update them on recent events, including those involving Zolomon, when he got back to the abbey.

At least that was his plan, just help out around the mountain and recover till Spring when he could head home as Redwall was his home and the mountain his 2nd home. He missed the abbey and Friar Lacota's cooking. Yes, yes the food at the mountain was good also, just one you have tried the famous Redwall food....it is hard to find anything better. Salamandstron had some famous seafood dishes though.

Standing was easy, a little unsteady on his footpaws, but he was standing and smiling. He managed a few steps and chuckled. He decided to get back to the bed before anyone caught him out of bed and grumbled at him. But in turning around there was a sharp brief stabbing pain in his lower back making him cry out in pain and then the room spun, the room burled, and the room went dark.

The new chief healer right away was called to the infirm by one of the healers under his command who found Lt.Elbio on the floor a couple of moments after hearing his cry 

Captain Velm ordered a couple of healers on duty to carefully check Lt.Elbio and then carefully get him onto a cot with as little movement as possible. A quick check of the wounds, any new ones. Check the heart rate and the pulse and eyes for anything not normal, all seemed good.

All was good till Elbio woke and muttered "Can't....feel my legs,why can't I feel my legs?"

Velm frowned and patted him on the shoulder "I don't know Lt., but I will do my best to find out."

After a brief chat Elbio told what happen, standing then walking a few feet, turning around, and the sharp pain in his lower back. He had off and on pains in his lower back but didn't think it was a cause for worry, he had not remembered like...half the fight with Zolomon, just bits and pieces of the fight and how Zolomon and Teddy fought each other before Elbio lose consciousness.

An arrow head, or rather 1/3 of an arrow head was still in his back. Talk in the infirm spoke of how it must have been hiding very close to the spine and then moved when Elbio stood and walked, moved and severed the spinal cord.....the hare was
paralyzed waist down. He would never walk again. He would never feel anything waist down. He would never move anything waist down again. Wheelchair-bound for the rest of his life. It took a few moments to sink in after he has woke up to the news.

Lt.Elbio Long Patrol career was....over.It was over. He would never run. He would never walk. He would never climb again.

He had full movement waist up, he could still hold a blade in his paw and use it, but it was not the same. There was more to just swinging a blade when needed, more if involved to help one in a fight.

Velm always hated to bring bad news, at least his fellow hare was alive. It could have been a lot worse, in fact, if they had not found the arrow bit when they did, if they had found it a couple of days, even a day later, the Lt.would of died. He sighed and walked over to the now awake Lt."Hallo Lt. Elbio"His ears droop."I am..so very sorry. Your paralyzed
waist down, your never walk again,this is perment. But you are alive. You are  still here for your daughter."Another pause.."Your, your also never be able to fight again,your fighting days are over...I...I don't know..I updated his Lordship and he wants to see you are you feeling up to, to talking any?"

Elbio just nodded, he knew, he knew already he would never walk again. Tears threaten to fall but he held them back."Let him in..."

Ciocan entered shortly after Velm left and sat in the chair beside Elbio"I am glad your alive Elbio. I am sad to hear the news of what has happened and will make sure the cause of it is dealt with. I have a group ready to be told to hunt Zolomon down and most likely stop him permanently, he has not only caused this but he has killed Teddy and Slaw, he has caused injuries, he has threatened others' lives."

Elbio nods "Alright...sur....I.."A deep breath, he would not break down."I can...no longer be a patrol hare can I? It's...it's over...it's..."

Ciocan takes his paw" Your life as an active member is over yes, but you are still a Patrol Hare, that will never change. You are still a LT. You keep that rank. "

"I...I can..retired but where...where would I go?" Elbio asked.

"Halyard, there is a small group of retired hares there in a safer area of the village. A couple of hares have family that lives there as well, you would be safe and a hare from the mountain can check on you every so often. Your daughter will stay with you as well LT. Elbio. But that can be in 3-4 weeks, for now, you can finish recovering while I do what is needed to get you a home in Halyard for you and your daughter."He tilts his head."And Lt.....itis alright to grieve, to cry, no one is going to judge you."

Elbio then, and only then allows himself to break down in the badger's arms, all the emotion, all the stress he just gets out. It took a while to calm down, and when he did he soon when to sleep. Rest was good, rest was needed. Things would be ok, he would get through this he knew it. He has his support group at the mountain and also soon in Halyard and they would never leave him alone.

True to his word, a small home was set up for Lt.Elbio and his daughter Ciana after those 3-4 weeks.Lt.Elbio had a wheeled chair to get around in and his daughter Ciana would help take care of him. He kept his rank of LT. and kept his uniform in a clear case on the wall.

Word was sent to Redwall Abbey by way of Rufus, or at least one of the couple gulls Rufus trusted would get a letter to the abbey beasts. The letter would update the abbey on what happened to Elbio, that he and his daughter were fine and to live in Halyard.

I mean I guess in a way the autumn feast at the abbey is that. I had started to work on a new picture of beasts celebrating a feast, but then stress, depression,anxiety got to me...sorry all on not having a really cool picture....but enough on that.

What WOULD thanksgiving at Redwall look like? I mean they can't have turkey after all

My ideas:

pies of all sorts of course,cakes even
rolls
cheeses,and maybe bread
pastry
deeper than ever beetroot,tator,and turip pie

Not sure on possible meat,...fish?Maybe the otters make some sort of new version of shrimp dish,just one without so much hotroot

what are your thoughts or ideas!

LOG:

Ciocan sat in his office looking over a report that had been given to him. A couple of other reports were on his desk. A frown formed at the one he was reading.

Velm knocked quietly as he came to the door and waited quietly for a reply.

Elbio decided to come along, he needed to let the badger know he was heading out soon anyway and having another officer here was a good plan. He looked at the hare that was beside him and Velm and sighs then turned his attention to the Badger Lord's door.

Cole stood beside both Lt. Velm and Lt. Elbio. He was very quiet, he looked at the rocky floor, he didn't stand at attention and sort of slumped a little. His eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep the past couple of days.

Ciocan looked up from his desk, "You may enter now. I have looked over the report of what happened, I wish we knew more. We need to learn more." He folds his paws on the desktop as he waited for the three hares to enter.

Velm entered quietly and gave a salute"Sur, and yes I agree we do need to find out whom "He looks over at Cole and back to Ciocan "Who killed Prv. Slaw. If it was some robber beasts things would have been taken, the only thing missing was his saber. He still had his gold pieces, he still had a dirk and a couple of other things."

Elbio enters, a nod "It could have been some vermin from Halyard but there were 4 dead rats as well, and going with findings and chatting with a couple of locals..the rats still had earrings, gold, weapons, one even still has their gold tooth in sur."

Cole sort of walked in and stood quietly, he then just let himself drop down to sort of sit on the floor. So unlike himself, he just stayed quiet, didn't talk, didn't fiddle with anything. He just sat, frowned, and gave a sad sigh.

Ciocan nods, he then frowned as he slowly stood and went around to the front of his desk and kneeled down to speak to Cole. He placed a gentle paw on his shoulder."Private, we will find out who did this unforgivable act, I promise."He gives the Private some time and speaks again "I am taking you off the mission with Halyard, you're to stay here at the mountain."

Velm watches as he speaks again" That would be a best decision, your Lordship. Considering wot has happened, I do not think Private Cole is fit for duty at this time, maybe not even training for a few days. I suggest rest, have someone keep an eye on him, he could be in his own room if it's more comfortable or.."Did the twins share a room? He hmmms"Maybe a new room elsewhere in the barracks would be best perhaps?" If that is able to be done sur"

Elbio nods in agreement. He for now is quiet, he can mention heading back to the abbey here soon, but for now, the focus is Cole.

Cole tenses up a little, he lets out a small whimper as he listens to everyone speak. A small sort of nod.."y...y..yy..yea...s...su.." He then clings onto Ciocan and starts crying, today had been harder it seemed as today there was a small funeral for his brother Cole as he was laid to rest forever in the catacombs.

Ciocan rubs Cole's back and lets the hare grieve. He looks to Elbio quietly, "You will be heading back to the abbey soon correct Elbio, or were you staying for a while?"

Velm excuses himself as he is summoned back to the camp, he knows Cole is in good paws.

Elbio nods "Yes sur I am. In a couple of days time. ( very early Saturday). I want to spend a couple of days with my daughter Ciana before I head out."

Cole manages to calm down after a while. He rubs his eyes and sniffs. His voice tired as he speaks, his throat sore..."I'm..hungry....and..t...tired.." It had been a day and a half since he last ate and even then it wasn't much.

Ciocan nods to Cole, he calls over a Corporal who was by the door. "Take the Private to the dining hall and get him something to eat and drink, and then find him a quiet bed to rest in. Have a hare keep watch over him, he will be off duty for a week, during that time he is to rest.

The officer gives a salute and motions Cole to follow him out the doorway.

Elbio nods to Cole"You rest now Private and if you need anything let his Lordship or one your fellow hares know, you have friends to help you through this, remember that."

Cole allows himself to be led off, he gives a weak faint smile to Elbio,"I..I kn..know sur" He then follows the other hare on out the door.

Ciocan stands to his full height" I am sending Teddy with you, he has bugged me non stop on wanting to visit the abbey, well he can tag along with you. He can stay at the 67th post maybe if he decides. As for your daughter, it would be good to spend time with her before you head off. Also, Elbio be very careful and alert on your way back, we still do not know what is fully going on in Halyard, if that has something to do with Slaw's death or if Slaw's death was something totally different. Whoever killed the Private has done an unforgivable act that will not go unpunished. If the one whom killed Slaw is found, if need be, end their life. Keep an eye out, and be careful. I do not want anyone else harmed or..worse."

Elbio nods," Understood sur. I will keep an eye out and be careful. I will have Teddy with me so that will help as well. Slaw was killed not too very far from Halyard, so it's hard to tell if the beast is in Halyard, on the shores, or maybe even sadly a long ways off by now. As far as I know not too much more has been found yet and the wind whipped around some sand so prints were not able to be figured out too well sadly enough to know what sort of beast it was, but I do agree it doesn't seem to be your run of the mill robber beast or possible horde beast either, this beast...they were possible skilled and seemed to want revenge for something that maybe the rats did...I do not know sur."

Ciocan nods," Hopefully it will be found out, sooner rather than later."He goes back to his desk"I will let sentries know to make you and Teddy a couple of supply packs when you head off. I must get back to my duties."

Elbio nods and then heads off to spend time with his daughter, in a couple days he and Teddy will head off to Mossflower.......

Or least that is what they plan to do, no one ever said plans go the way you want them to all the time.
