I could work on an arc for my character Spruce to eventually fill the roll of gatekeeper, if people are okay with the position not being filled immediately - it would be tied up to some of the plot ideas I hope to get going in the fall and winter too
I am going to be online at 5pm EST - hope to RP!
So, is the 13th still the working date for the feast? I may mot be able to make it, but I'll try
As people have kinda noticed I have not been active much at all for the past few weeks - I'm sorry for not communicating why that is!
Basically there's a wedding in my family and that has absorbed a heck of a lot of my time, plus I've been feeling some burnout on the Muck.
I'm still gonna show for RPs today and tomorrow particularly at Redwall as the 67th hares, where I hope cpt Lucia'll be able to meet the order (hopefully, Sundays are always an unknown for me) but after that I will not be around until the 13th of August, and my plot which already has been unofficially on hold will be officially on hold until September so everyone can focus on Blisa's stuff (and so I have time to recharge).
Also I have a fair amount of logs to post going back to June now, so I'm hoping to get those done at some point.
Anyway, hope that clears stuff up!
hey, so I won't actually be bale to get onlien today - I'm feeling a bit under the weather and need to rest. Hopefully there'll be a time to RP soon!
Hey! I'm gonna be online later today to RP mostly in Mossflower; that side of the plot needs some IC stuff going on ![]()
Also, yes, I'm aware I have like 5 logs to post - I'm going to actually start working on them all and get them posted sooon. Life (and the logs) kinda got away from me for a little while there, rip
Hey, so Elbio, Cole, myself, and Adrian were planning on an RP today. I suppose I'm here to ask what time later today works? Please let me know!
As everyone's said, you will be missed! It'll be weird on the muck without you because you've been an active presence since more or less when I first joined (and I've always viewed DoraRose and John being roughly the same age/generation). Your characters have always been a very good anchor when I've been absent from the Muck in the past, as what's going on with them has been a pretty good way to figure out what was going on with the wider muck in general + what the feel of the day is IC'ly, plus your consistency over the years was also a great way to tell how the Muck was doing OOC'ly. Hopefully the rest of us can fill a similar role if/when ever you decide to pop back on or check in with this place.
(Also even if you're gone, please feel free to keep up with the Muck Wiki especially if you want a nostalgic trip ever - my current plan is to slowly get all the past plots/tps on there and organized so they read kinda like a RW book, with each individual log acting as a chapter and arcs within the TP acting as the different parts (because every RW book has 3 parts). All with slight editing to fix spelling & grammar to help readability, of course, but nothing more than that).
If you do have days off in July, please let me know! I can't be that active in the first half of August (I should be active again around the 16-18th) and I'm looking to have the current plot I have going (and my characters) reach either a good stopping point to be resumed when I have more time later in the summer. I've been planning on being more active in July because of this, and if you have extra free days that would be great!
Hey, just wanted to let everyone know I won't be able to get online today- I have some family stuff that came up (nothing bad!) and I want to focus on that today! I'll be here next Saturday and maybe this Monday if people are up for that
Alright, so myself & Gregorian are currently online by Salamandastron! Please feel free to join us; I'm hoping to get a few more characters involved to pick up from where Rhonwen and I left off last Saturday!
In Salamandastron, Privates Rhonwen and Sheen are on sentry duty when word comes from the 23rd...
Pvt Rhonwen & MSG Terrence, + LCpl Addersmith, Pvt E. Sheen, & Lt. Redford (all spoofed by Terrence)
It was approaching noon now, with the late spring sun beating down upon the sand outside of Salamandastron. In a little crevice on the side of the mountain, just above the hidden gates, two slivers exist in the rock, and looking rather bored with her right paw propping up her face is private Esther Sheen. The shore outside hadn't had a single speck of movement besides the waves since she got to the sentry room just after the morning patrols returned and exercises finished. Not even a crab or seagull was outside now.
She let out a long sigh. At least four hours were left of just sitting there.
Rhonwen had been quiet as well, she would read a book but that was a big no no for right now. She yawned but stayed awake as she watched the shore quietly. She tilted her head as she kept watch, this was boring to her as well.
Sheen casts a sideways glance at her fellow sentry for a moment. Very few words have been exchanged today between them, and there was a part of her that loathed to break the silence. Yet she was also bored out of her mind.
So, after clearing her throat, she asks, "So.... Watchya planning on doing once you get out of this room?"
Rhonwen shrugs "Likely go ta the library, learn some more history. Some of it is real interesting, once they didn't have a cook and the Badger Lord was the main cook for like a season or two."
"Ah, I see." Sheen wasn't the best reader out there, especially of history, but she wasn't quite willing to admit that now. "I can take guess that far, far too many 'ares got cooking as punishment for somethin' or another, right? But what's the most interesting, by the by?"
Rhonwen shrugs "Not view cooking as such... now washing all those dishes after a meal.. .that right thar is a punishment, trust me ya don't wanna do that." Its clear she may well of gotten the punishment of wash duty. She keeps an eye out the slit, is that movement? ...no just an ant as she sighs.
As the small trail of ants on the windowsill is really the first sign of movement either of the hares have seen, Sheen absent mindedly flicks one away. "Trust me, I've done my fair share of scrubbing pots. Might be a rite of passage for the patrol, wot."
There's a beat of silence again.
"So, Rhonwen, right?" her eyes dart from the ants as she says this, "What do you think of, well," she waves northwards, "What's all happening up there?"
Rhonwen hmmms, she nods to the name "Not thought too much of it, do miss de tavern but tis fine. I am sure we can go to Halyard again soonish, maybe we just be having others worry too much"
"Aha!" Sheen gives a short laugh. "The bar 'ere doesn't quite live up to 'Alyard's, does it? But, yes, I 'ope so too. Closest we can manage is going to that stuffy base up there, the 23rd. You've been yet?"
Rhonwen shakes her head "No, not yet I think I am with the next group to go... in day or two, I think"
"Can't really say it's much more exciting than this room, sadly," Sheen gives the other hare a look of mock mourning, "And sadly far too many 'ares 'ave been lost to boredom up there. Truly, sacrifices we shall never forget. Though.... Maybe you'll see Konner make it back safe and sound, eh?"
Rhonwen frowns, she has heard of the missing hare "I wonder if they are still trying to find him or not, he could be hurt or scared or something... I mean just cause one is a LP Hare doesn't mean to never be afraid"
"I think finding 'im is a top priority for the LP," she says, nonchalantly, muttering to herself, "Or so I'd 'ope." With another sigh she turns back to look out the window. "The problem is that 'Alyard's a lot of ground to cover, and right now trying to look for a 'are is difficult. But I doubt 'e's 'urt, really. Back before I was a recruit, a training group got attacked by toads in the swamps. Konner got lost for at least a week before that big lump Dom met up with 'im, and it was a while after that before either of them made it back to the patrol. But they made it out in the end."
Rhonwen nods, she is still watching the beach, yep lot of sand and water and nothing else. "Yeah, who knows maybe he decided to not be in de patrol and left. Or he is having a hard time getting back, or maybe he decided to try and gather more info before he comes back"
"Maybe, maybe." Sheen nods, staring northwards. "I doubt 'e left though. I was the last 'are to see 'im, and we were both running from a patrol of vermin beasts near 'Alyard. Split up in the alleyways, and well, I made it back."
There's a pause before the hare leans towards the window, squinting in the noon light. "Say, you don't see anything out there, do you?"
Rhonwen quietly looks, "Hmmm, I am unsure... if it is something it's far off for now." She is alert, not that she wasn't alert before.
Sheen has risen slightly from her chair with both paws resting on the stone windowsill. "I'm not sure, either."
A ways off, barely visible against the sand and the sun beating down high above causing a glare, something is moving south at great speed. The fur and the clothing is difficult to discern exactly as both are nearly a perfect match to the sand around the beast!
"That a 'are, maybe? Could be one of our uniforms..."
Rhonwen tries to get a better look, "Possible, a runner maybe and one in a hurry. I wonder if thar is trouble. Maybe one of us should get one of the officers"
"Could be..." Sheen replies, uncertainty colouring her voice as she stands fully. "I'm not sure we should bother an officer until we know for certain. Perhaps we should wait below to meet them, eh?" Even the private speaks she's moving towards the ladder to the main entrance below. "If it's a runner, once they tell us what's up we can get a 'igher up. Or not, if it turns out to be something minor."
Rhonwen frowns as she nods. If it was a threat they would surely know by now and, well there be a lot more movement to be seen. "Then why run if it's minor, not know anyone that runs for fun"
"Maybe they're trying to get out of the sun as quick as possible," Sheen shrugs as she starts climbing down the ladder, "Or maybe the 'ave a message. I just don't want to call in an officer if the message's 'bout a lack of salt or something at the 23rd, you know? But if you want to get one feel free. I can't stop you."
Rhonwen hmmms as she seems unsure right now, she nods as she comes down. She knows an officer is usually close by, she just isn't sure how close by right now and other sentries are not here for a while yet. "Just stay alert"
Sheen grabs a spear that rest against the tunnel wall once she's down the ladder. "Yeah, I know." She replies as she opens the small side door next to the gate, stepping outside to add over her shoulder, "Though I doubt a single beast'll jump us, so I doubt there's much to worry 'bout."
Rhonwen stays very alert and knows they can always yell for trouble if needed, you don't leave a fellow hare by theirself just in case. She has a spear, and a sling if needed as she nods "Two to one odds in our favor just in case, always pays to be carefull"
"Exactly!" Sheen says a bit too brightly. "Just aim a stone between their eyes if it's a threat, wot, and that should sort them out. Now, though, I guess we wait. Did you 'appen to grab a spyglass, by chance? I forgot to."
Now the figure in the distance can be made out more clearly, their ears framed against the blue sky: a hare no doubt, clad in the sandy uniform of the main patrol.
"Well," says Sheen, "I think that might be one of ours, or I'm a badger."
Rhonwen nods as she hands over a spy glass "I have one, yeah." She looks towards where the hare is coming from "Wonder whom it is"
Esther Sheen nods as she takes a spyglass with a thank you, using it only for a moment. "Yep, that's our colours, alright. Got the blue facings and all. I suppose now we'll find out, wot?" Handing the spyglass back she steps rather boldly up a rock to expose herself to the shore, waving her spear to the patroller.
"AHOY!" She calls, and the runner waves back. "Now we wait, I guess," Sheen murmurs as she steps back down by Rhonwen.
Rhonwen nods as they do indeed wait to see if anything major is needed to know, or if it is indeed maybe some minor thing.
It takes about five minutes before the runner slows to a trot, stopping before the large rock. "Lance-Corporal Darrick Addersmith," he calls, "With a message from Lt. Lossow at the 23rd Base near Halyard. It's urgent!"
Sheen glances at Rhonwen. "I guess you were right."
Rhonwen listens and nods "Let me find an officer sur!"She salutes and she is off to find an officer, maybe the Master Sergeant is close by the entry.
Sheen waits with Addersmith, handing a canteen of water to the runner. "'Ere," she mutters. "So, what's so urgent?"
The older hare shakes his head. "Gotta tell an officer first, sorry Sheen. But I guess, well - there's some movement in town. I'm not willing to say more, though."
Meanwhile, the master sergeant is not the first officer near the entrance. Redford, the healer lieutenant under Velm's command, is. "Oh, hullo Rhonwen!" The officer says in greeting as he carries a crate up from the cellars.
Rhonwen stops and salutes "Sur! Thar is an urgent message from Lt. Lossow sur, I was looking fer the Master Sergeant." But this hare is an officer as well, so maybe it counts as the message was urgent and if the Master Sergeant was busy or too far inside the mountain, then the healer would have to do.
Redford blinks. "Oh, uh, right. Right, I'll be right there." The young lieutenant dips his head, "At ease, by the way - er," he looks around the hallway junction, his ears perking up as he sees a pair of hares coming down from the second floor. "Hey, Burnfield! Just the hare I wanted to see come here and bring this crate to the infirmary - you there," he says to the second hare, "Harold, right? Go find your master-sergeant and bring him to the gates. There's a message it seems from the 23rd."
The two hares share a glance before doing as they're asked. "What's the message about, sah?" Bunrfield asks as she takes the crate.
"Not a clue, but I'm sure we'll all find out soon!" Redford answers, turning to Rhonwen, "Well then private, lead the way!"
Rhonwen nods as she turns to head back to the entry area where the hare from the 23nd awaits. She had not heard what the message is but she leads the officer there to see.
When Rhonwen gets back with Redford in tow, they find Addersmith sitting with his back against the stone wall of the tunnel drinking water. Esther is leaning against the same wall, waiting. When the lieutenant appears they both snap to attention. "Sah!" Says the runner, "It is my duty to report movement in Halyard- a group of about ten beasts, half armed and armoured, heading south, presumably to here. I made good time, but they'll be here soon enough I fear."
Redford blinks. "Uh, righto." Looking at his feet for a second, he nods slowly. "Right.... Um, where's the captain, or Terrence... by chance...? Er, Sheen - maybe you go and alert the mountain and all that. Yes," he nods, "Do that."
Sheen, for her part after she salutes, glances at Rhonwen with a raised eyebrow and a shrug as she passes the other private. "Right sah."
Rhonwen blinks and frowns, she would ask if this was the first possible threat the healer has seen or heard before. But she stays quiet and alert. "So are we in... like danger or sumthing? Maybe I should get his Lordship even?" She is a bit worried but also unsure as just half of who ever this group is, is armed.
Redford blinks. "Right, his Lordship." He gulps. "That would be good, yes, yes. As for danger..." He glance sharply at the messenger. "What do you think," he squints as he studies the rank insignia on Addersmith's uniform, "Lance-corporal?"
"Maybe, sah- but it's only ten. Not exactly a fighting force I'd say."
Rhonwen is still worried, "Well... so far 4 of us." Better odds than earlier she thinks to herself. She is not even sure if the Badger Lord is in his room or maybe the forge as those are the two main places he would be usually.
"What's going on here?" Terrence's voice is unmistakable - as is the urgency in it. "Lieutenant," the NCO nods to Redford and the others. "Addersmith, what's going on? I saw Sheen in passing and said Halyard's made a move. She's getting the mountain on alert as we speak."
The young lieutenant bows his head. "Right, Terrence. I was just gonna send Rhonwen to fetch the badger lord and whoever else she can find, wot!"
"Good, Rhonwen - go do that. If any hare makes a stink about you interrupting the Lord, tell them I sent you." Terrence turns to Darrick. "Now then, Addersmith, tell me everything while we wait."
Rhonwen salutes and she heads off to find the Badger Lord, no one luckily gets in her way .
Hey! So I had mentioned in-game that I was planning on being online to RP this Wednesday (the 8th)- It's my birthday actually, so I will not be online. Instead, I'm hoping to continue the RP from last Saturday this coming Saturday (the 11th) starting around noon-1pm my time/2-3pm EST. I know Blisa wants to do a DAB LP rp that day, and maybe we could combine the RP if people are up for that!
Now then, the details of what i would like the meeting itself to be - I would like Ciocan to be there and anyone else in the LP who wants to be there as well (like Quinten, Varus, Gregorian, Felicity, Cole, Velm, Donica, Rhonwen, Adrian, Dom, etc etc), the more the merrier.
I might have a time skip happen early on in the RP so we can have both a scene of the LP agreeing/disagreeing to the meeting and the meeting itself/fallout rp'd on the same day, this Saturday. If anyone wants to get involved and shake things up (like say have the LP DAB show up and cause chaos) please please feel free to!
i dunno how i feel about the fact i kinda forgot my own birthday but hey
Also also, added the most recent log to the list!
Sgt Adrian, Pvt Cole, MSgt Terrence, Cpt Velm, & spoofs
Having taken advantage of the late spring weather, Terrence had all the hares of the mountain patrol organise themselves and go for a run - they aren't due back for at least another hour or so, leaving the master-sergeant by himself on the shore waiting.
Velm had decided to go along with the group, and it was good to get out of the mountain for a change. The fresh air and the space helped him to think as he had spend a good deal of time inside or in the infirm with checkups and tending to the recovering Lt. as well.He wasn't one of the fastest hares but he didn't seem to mind that too much.
While the captain's presence was a surprise, Terrence hadn't said a word when Velm joined his hares. Having an officer along would probably keep them more on track, and he won't complain. Can't guarantee the same for the various privates and nco's running with Velm, though, but none of the hares near the healer would dare breath anything about that. Instead they mostly keep to themselves in their groups, squads and companies sticking together in a (mostly) ordered fashion. With Velm being part of the Homeguard and not the Mountain Patrol, he can kinda do as he pleases - especially because he's a captain.
Velm needed some time away and a run did help, besides there was a couple privates acting up earlier, and one private twisted his ankle when they tripped over a bit of covered drift wood in the sand. Velm keeps an eye on a now slightly limping private. "I say just rest the rest of de day and ya should be fine tomorrow young chap."
The private nods silently as he tries to keep up with his unit, face scarlet with embarrassment. "You 'eard the captain!" Calls the sergeant leading the troop, "Rest up and I'll have you back out 'ere by dawn."
Privately, the private is deeply thankful that Velm's presence as a commissioned officer means that any jokes at his expense will be held off for now.
Velm walks over to Terrence after making sure the limping Private is doing okay "Hallo Sergeant, how are you doing today?"
Terrence looks up, rising slowly. "I'm well, thank you," he says as he dusts off his paws. "How was the run?"
The private and the rest of the hares, now back, go about finding places to take a rest until they're called to attention again.
Cole seemed to dislike joining in on the run, but he did and got there just in time, barely avoiding being yelled at... again. He sits down with the others now quietly.
Velm nods "It was good, tis good to get out of the mountain sometimes. I been a little too busy, also a good run helps clear the head and makes one less stressed."
Having already sat back down against the rock, Terrence nods as he listens, saying, "Yes, yes, that's good. I can imagine it can." His eyes are gazing northward up the shore as he speaks.
Cole frowns "Why so many runs lately though sur? A day off be blooming good, right?" He even smiles, a smile always is good to have after all.
Velm frowns towards Cole and hmmms as he notices the gaze northwards "Something in your sights Sergeant or worried bout something? The beach seems mostly clear today."
"An extra run a week is to make up for all the setting about the Patrol did in winter," Terrence wryly addresses Cole while still keeping his eyes northwards. "The hares are supposed to get at least one good march in per week, unless your footpaws forgot that." He shakes his head with a snort. "As for- no, captain. Nothing yet, at any rate. Simply thinking."
Cole frowns but nods "True, sur... ya be right as we hares got to stay fit and stuff."
Velm speaks "Expecting someone?"He asks as he studies the same direction a moment, he even glances at the sea a bit.
"No." Terrence replies with a shrug, "My mind's simply on the town, that's all. I suppose I am expecting something to happen, in a way."
Cole listens a little, another private speaks "A lot happens in Halyard sur and has fer a while. I say some be too worried 'bout it cause no one can go to Halyard as much as they did before'and de tavern is a great place ta go... usually"
Velm nods slowly, a glance at the Private speaking "Don't always have ta go to Halyard on a day off. Could relax and have a day on the beach maybe." He hasn't heard too much of what has been going on in Halyard since that's mostly, except for major issues, something the main patrol deals with.
"Now may be a good time to remind you all," Terrence turns to face them, "The order for the battalion to stay out of Halyard except for official business still stands. If I find anyone has gone to get even a drink there," he eyes the private who had spoken earlier, "Well, I'm certain you can guess."
Cole ears droop slightly as the Sergeant speaks, "So... when can we like go ta Halayard again?" The other private sighs and even pouts and a couple seem worried but all look to be listening to what is said.
Velm says, "I am guessing thar is some new updates that need to be heard. I know we still get some supplies from Halyard, though I think one time a small ship came right to de beach with some supplies. "Likely one of the merchants that are still friends with the patrol and doing their best to avoid anyone they rather not run into."
"As of the moment it seems to be if a patrol hare were to wonder on into that town," Terrence sighs, "You'd be about as likely stabbed as offered a drink, and frankly I don't trust hares to not be hot headed and start a brawl. The merchants though - those have slowed down."
Cole frowns "I wouldn't fight or start one that would be bad. I remember when someone like bumped into a rat and that started a fight and like with the whole tavern and it was wild." He goes on and on about the day, likely a while ago and then another private slaps him, "HEY!" He gets a glare and looks down at the sand.
The look Terrence gives Cole when he begins to mention that incident is unamused, to say the least - which morphs into shock then anger as Cole is slapped. The master sergeant leaps to his feet and launches himself at the offending hare with a brutal shove. "YOU DO THAT AGAIN I'LL LOP YOUR BLOODY PAW OFF, YOU UNDERSTAND, PRIVATE?"
Adrian arrives from the direction of the mountain to see how the runners have fared. "Hoi. Wot's new wi' you lot? Did y' run fastah th'n yahr grannies this time?"
Velm steps back letting Adrian come towards the group as the Healer is part of the Home Guard, he looks to see if Terrence needs any help when it looks like a small fight between a couple Privates is about to start.
Cole takes a deep breath and does start to shove the other Private but stops when Terrence comes over. The Private that slapped Cole glares "He started it, going on and on and he wouldn't shut up, he talks too much." Cole mutters something under his breath and looks down, he resists the urge to punch the other private, a calming breath as he lets some sand run threw his fingers, it seems to calm him a little.
"Private, the master sergeant hisses as he steps in between them, his back to Cole and looming over the other private. "Are you an idiot? You think that justifies a slap?" he spits, "And you dare don't talk back - you're already in a world of trouble." Terrence looks more furious than any of the hares present have likely ever seen him.
Adrian oh mys, and he raises his paws, taking a step back. Clearly this was a bad time. so he starts to back away slowly, letting Terrence handle... whatever it is that he's handling. "Y'know, tell me latah, wot!"
Cole stays quiet as the other private speaks "Well... I... ummm..." Okay the Sergeant looks really really mad and it seems the poor Private is starting to notice and no one is helping him either as they decide it's best not to even speak as the Private gulps a little. "Well... sur, ya see... well wot am I supposed ta do? Hmm... let him be annoying?" Cole glances over now but is still silent, which is likely wise as he likely get himself in trouble too.
Velm frowns, not wise to make an officer upset and Velm has seen some Privates get into trouble before. He has dealt with stubborn privates before as he did have a small group of hares when he went to Mossflower seasons ago.A frown, only one of those hares are still around, then a lot of hares were lost that day.
"What you're supposed to do," Terrence's voice is dripping with scorn, "Is whatever you're told to do. So, yes, let him be annoying. It's my job to tell hares to shut up, not yours, cleah?" The hare glares at the private for a long moment, letting the words sink in.
"Sergeant Adrian!" He calls as he turns on his heel, not having missed the way the sergeant was slipping away, "You can be in charge of this private's punishment if you wish! They don't seem to understand how the patrol works, so teach them as you see fit."
Velm quietly heads back into the mountain letting the other officers deal with the Private.
Cole sits quietly, he is doing a fairly good job not to punch the other Private back, it may be wise to have the hares head inside, well except Private Miller, the one that's in trouble for slapping Cole.
Adrian ohs, and he turns at hearing his name. "I think scrubbing all the floors in Salamandastron with a toothbrush from cellar to level three might be a good fit for a punishment, wouldn't you agree?"
"Until next summer, yes," Terrence dips his head. "Well, I'll leave Miller in your paws, Adrian. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna get the rest of this lot indoors." With that he stalks off and begins getting the rest of the patrol on their feet and moving.
Alright, so currently I'm online starting an RP with Rhonwen at the entrance to Sala - the plan for today when/if more people get online is to have a runner from the 23rd show up to warn about a group coming south from Halyard, then have that group show up with an ~ official ~ message for the whole LP requesting a meeting between the Badger Lord & the LP and the BoM & Halyard in the coming weeks.
The LP could refuse to meet at all, but that'll have to be up to whoever's online - if it is left up to Terrence to decide, he'll tentatively agree. So if anyone wants to get involved, feel free to join the RP! I have plans for if the LP agrees to meet with the Halyard group or if they don't. I'd love to see LP characters get involved with the plot and make an impact!
Also, I'm hoping to get RP started earlier the next two Saturdays (the 11th & 18th around noon or 1 pm my time which is 6-7PM GMT) if that works better for people.
Currently online if anyone wants to RP! I'll have to go in 2-3 hours, but that should give enough time to do a scene or two
Hey, so this Saturday (the 4th) I plan on being on line from 1pm MST (3pm EST, 7pm GMT) to about 3-4pm MST (5-6pm EST) to hopefully RP in Mossflower Woods/on the road as either John or Atticus, as well as RPing in the LP with Terrence to hopefully do that messenger/envoy RP I mentioned in the last post.
See you all Saturday!
Hey! I am currently online as John and Terrence - if anyone wants to RP tonight, just let me know!
Alright! I would like you to be there when we go so you get a chance to RP, so the 67th group will go after you get back ![]()
In the meantime, though, I'd like to set up the reasons WHY more hares than just Elbio are going to Mossflower. At some point in the next few weeks I would like to do an RP where official contact is made between the group in Halyard and the LP, with one or two official meetings that can hopefully be RP'd out. Regardless of what else happens or is said, the LP will be convinced they need to keep a better eye on what's going on inland in Mossflower in addition to Halyard and the western shore.
If possible, I would like Ciocan to be there, and/or Quinten (if they can make it). Hopefully we can all find a date that works best for everyone!
Right now though I am working on setting that meeting up, so today I'm planning on throwing a messenger at the LP ![]()
I am currently online until 5-6pm EST
Added a list of all the logs involved in the Plot + brief summaries of each! I hope this helps make things easier to digest and look through ![]()
Back in Salamandastron, the Long Patrol discusses their options...
Terrence needs a new corporal, again!
SGT Adrian, PVT Cole, Rt-LT Elbio, MSGT Terrence, & CPT Velm
The spring weather even on the shore was welcome: the rain that came each day was not the storm of winters or summer, but a light drizzle that passed soon enough in favour of the sunlight. The air was fresh and the gardens on the mountain are in full bloom, and most hares opt to spend their time of outside the dingy old halls of Salamandastron.
However, making his way through the maze like tunnels, Terrence has no time off to enjoy the weather. Rather he continues his work as he had for seasons at this point - checking on the various aspects of mountain life and making sure the Patrol was running smoothly for his superiors; right now that meant careful care of the crops while they grew and collection of rain water for storage in addition to the maintenance of arms and armour & the overall gear of the Long Patrol. Thankfully nothing was broken (yet) beyond repair, but the master sergeant felt it may be only a matter of time...
Regardless he marches on through the hallways intent on his inspection of the mountain.
Cole is sitting down taking a break as he has just did some training in the training room. He catches sight of Terrence and for now just watches the Sergeant to see what he is up to.
Elbio has been slowly recovering and needing his wheeled chair less and less, which is good. He slowly moves threw the hallway, every so often he will lean against the stone wall, a healer does keep an eye on him as he walks, there to help if he needs it."You sure you don't need to rest sur?" Elbio replies "I am fine, I need to get use to walking again"
Terrence catches sight of the recovering lieutenant first and offers a respectful nod as he passes, but doesn't really stop to talk - he isn't part of the healer corps after all, so (thankfully) he can simply trust Elbio's in good paws for his recovery. Rather he slows by the private who'd just come from training, eyeing Cole up and down.
"Making progress you'd say, private?" He questions, coming to a halt. "Or at the least keeping up would you say?"
Cole gives a salute,"Y... yes sur!" He states as he stands up straight and tall and at attention. He has been studying a good amount, of course he could do better but at least he is trying to do well. "It's just been a quiet day sur, that's all." Also in the mountain now is Ciana, for now a recruit as she catches up on some basics she missed while away. But she stays off to the side for the moment.
Elbio returns the nod to Terrence "Good day Terrence" He says quietly "Hope all is going well."
Adrian comes up from level one, and continuing on up to level three. Doesn't seem like he's about to stop, either.
Barely registering the new recruit (as he barley recognises her), Terrence nods briefly his attention already shifting from Cole. "That's good," he mutters distractedly, "Quiet is good. Yes, Elbio! Good day!" He calls even as yet another hare appears.
Terrence doesn't immediately acknowledge him, yet after moment the uniform and rank sink in soon enough - and so waves Adrian over. "Sergeant! I should have a word with you, if you have the time."
Cole sits back down looking over some papers he has for studying, a sigh as he reads another page "So much to remember... like how do officers do it"
Adrian was headed up to the summit to get some air in his free time, but somebeast calling out his rank makes him stop short. "Mm?" He changes course. "Wot is it, Sah?"
Raising a brow Terrence turns back to Cole for a moment. "If that is something you wish to learn, I'd suggest speaking to officers if you can, as well as spending more time in the library if you can help it." When the sergeant turns back the master sergeant nods in greeting. "Adrian, right, right - I think now may be a good time to start discussing finding Attenborough - er, Konner, if you're not otherwise busy, of course."
Cole nods "I... am, sort of interested in being an officer one day yeah...err least I hope, it's a goal" He has been a lot less trouble lately than he has been in the past. Ciana meanwhile is called away to a class for recruits.
Elbio makes his way to where he can sit down, he sighs as his legs hurt a little but he has been doing a lot to regain walking and soon would get some trining in as well to get back into being able to fight well, maybe not as well as before but as close as he could. He has been told he may still need a walking staff sometimes for long walks, if he can avoid that he will though.
Adrian hmms, rubbing his chin. "We spent almost two days tryin' t' covertly search Halyahd, but if y've got any new ideas I'm certainly all ears."
Eyes darting to Elbio when he sits, Terrence nods slowly, again. "Well, not particularly anything concrete, of course, but I wonder if we should just swallow our pride and reach out to Halyard and those beasts there ourselves in search of the lost private. Your report mentioned a sea otter who seemed friendly in a way, perhaps he might be a good bridge...?"
Elbio looks back and forth between the two and clears his throat "Finding whoever the sea otter is, could be good... if you think it wise, or ask others. Maybe both. I do know some are fine with us hares in Halyard, Nala was fine with the LP hares and sadly I know very little of these new beasts around"
"Wisdom isn't something I have a claim to," Terrence grunts, musing to himself "But practicality is more in my grasp, I should like to think. Hence requesting help," he speaks louder, addressing Elbio directly, "Even if these new beasts aren't much to our liking. The old inhabitants like your Nala and that sea otter could certainly help, yes... But." He leans against the stone wall with a shrug, "Perhaps honesty may be the best path we have. If we're clear to all that Attenborough's simply missing and we require their aid, that may make Halyard as a whole a bit more cordial towards us. After all, having them think we might relay upon them may prove useful, and allow us an easier time learning what exactly they're about. I severely doubt they simply wish to improve the village and leave it at that, but that is the realm of speculation."
Elbio hmmms "Then we somehow how to learn more about them, but at the same time not make them think we are a threat." He thinks a moment "Also I do think Konnor is alive still or we would know, also if these beasts wanted him dead and wanted us to know we would know by now. So he has to be somewhere, whether Halyard or elsewhere even, maybe on a ship perhaps. Ships do stay in the docks, some for a short time and others longer... heck some live in their boats." He frowns "Wot ever is decided I sadly cant tag along, still got a good deal of recovery to do if I am gonna be able to get back to Mossflower and the abbey."
Adrian clears his throat. "If I may say so, it seems that all the non-'are residents o' Halyahd are bein' swayed hahd by this new contingent o' beasts that arrived in tha' bloody big ship. It seems th' beast are offerin' some kind o' alliance that does not include th' Patrol at all. Wot hare still livin' within Halyahd are less impressed, but it seems othah beasts are more interested. It's a toss up whethah any beast that isn't a hare will actually 'elp us out at this point."
"You were there, sergeant, and so too were you, Elbio. Both of you can probably say better than me. I doubt Konner's dead, too. I know him well enough and he's survived much, much worse." Terrence rubs his temples with a sigh. "Daresay we might try and force ourselves in that alliance, whether or not they intend to leave us out and regardless of if they mean well or no-" Shaking his head, he adds, "But no matter whatever's the decision made, it'll be down to the choice of the likes of the major," his eyes drift away from Adrian as he says that, "And the colonel, and I suppose even higher up than that. We'll just have to propose the idea, I think, if enough hares think it's worth a shot of course.
"I do," the master sergeant grunts after a moment, "But maybe that's my unwillingness to just leave Konner as an unknown."
Elbio nods "I didn't see Konnor, I heard how he was missing when Adrian and Lossow showed up and told me." he leans back a little tired, "I am sure his Lordship wants Konnor found as well, leave no hare behind one would say."
Adrian frowns. "I'm not against searchin' f'r Konnah. I just want y' t' know wot t' expect. Th' Halyahd town guard is not composed of hares anymore, and they made it quite cleah tha' we weren't welcome. I strongly suspect Konnah was captured by those strangahs an' taken t' their ship f'r interrogation."
"Hmm." At the mention of the badger lord Terrence's face darkens for a moment. "Well I'm the one nominally in charge of him, and the rest of the hares in the battalion." He shakes his head. "I'd have preferred to not have the incident meddled with outside of the patrol, but that's not really feasible. And your involvement since nearly the start of this," he cracks a small grin at Elbio, "Already makes this a wider issue... As for Halyard itself - I don't think the guard has had many hares for a long time. Thing's have changed quite a bit since you left Adrain, and frankly I wasn't even aware it had survived the attacks last summer. Barely anything did."
He sucks in a breath, closing his eyes for a second or two. "If," he starts again "If they have taken him prisoner we don't have any other option but to ask for him back. I'm not willing to risk a fight in town, or aggravating any beast there more than we have to."
Elbio nods "Fight wouldn't be wise... and..." He frowns "Wait no one has updated his Lordship?..." He still frowns at this as if to ask why, a hare missing and that's not reported?
Adrian scowls. "Well, we were trying to keep it hush-hush and find him ourselves. Somebeast's head is gonna roll ovah this one."
"No!" Terrence is suddenly much more alert when the lieutenant speaks, "No," he says, calmer, "He does know, as does the whole patrol, no doubt. The report was sent up the proper channels, don't you worry." He glances sympathetically at Adrian, "And he will know if we try and make contact with Halyard... But I'm just not all that willing to remind him of the details until we have a little more to show fo-" he cuts himself off as a hare calls out.
"Lt. Elbio!" It was Redford, looking a bit haggard today, "Lt. Elbio- Oh, there you are!" The healer dips his head as he slinks by Terrence and Adrian to get at Elbio. "Forgive the intrusion, but he needs his rest - come on, lieutenant."
Terrence is quiet for a while after the healer and the recovering hare go, watching the hallway where they disappeared to. "More heads will roll than just your's or Lossow's if we aren't careful about this," he mutters, "But there is a chance Konner is fine, so let's hope for that. He managed to survive the swamp incident, and ticking off Dominik. As well as the battles in Halyard..."
Adrian harrumps. "I don't doubt 'e's alive. I'm just not sure 'ow long they'll keep 'im as long as he ain't cooperatin'." The mere suggestion that Konner would have blabbed about the Patrol in an interrogation is not even worth entertaining. "We screwed up, pure an' simple. We shoulda suspected they'd send a patrol out inta th' dunes that close t' town. Splittin' up seemed like a good idea, but 'e fell right inta their lap like a first prize fish in a fishin' tourney."
The master sergeant simply nods at first, taking a while to respond. When he does, it's in a low voice, "I think," he begins, tentatively, "I think if Konner has been captured he may be treated well, regardless of if he cooperates or not."
Adrian frowns, and he nods after a moment. "One can only hope," he replies. "We may have to fall back on diplomacy to clear this up."
"My thoughts exactly." Terrence leans back. "I figure if they have managed to catch him, they wouldn't risk harming him and upsetting the Long Patrol. They clearly aren't looking for a fight, at least not now, and if I were in their paws I'd keep the bargaining chip as happy as I could before I used it. Which, of course," he sighs, "Means that they may very well have something to hold over us in any discussions that take place, but if they have him, I fear there's no way to avoid that."
Adrian huffs. "We outnumbah their party... for now. We're th' ones tha' should 'ave th' uppah paw. If they bring more ships, though, we could lose control o' the Western shore. Wot then?"
"What then?" Terrence tsks, "I don't want to find out. And regardless of if we out number them," the master sergeant turns a hard eyed look to Adrian, "The report said they wore armour, and were disciplined, and above all they have Halyard mostly under their thumb. I'm not sure if you've ever experienced a fight in a town like Halyard before, but we would need ten times our number before I would ever be comfortable suggesting we start a battle there. We lost far too many hares last time, far too many- including your own father. I don't want to ever see anything like that repeated, if for the citizens of Halyard's sake, if nothing else, and I'll do my best to make sure it doesn't happen, understood?"
Velm walks into the hallway as he hears voices and stops a moment, not catching anything but noting Terrence seems tense maybe "Everything alright Sergeant?" He has a clip board where he has written what looks like a supply list with him.
Adrian huffs again. "I fought in th' battle o' Redwall several seasons ago. It was brutal. At any rate, 'm not suggestion we staht a war, but it might be 'igh time we flex our muscle a little an' remind these strangahs tha' we aren't t' be trifled with. I c'n guarantee thay've been watchin' th' mountain. Wot we need t' do is give 'em th' impression tha' we vastly outnumbah them decisively."
"But do we?" Terrence mutters to himself. He shakes his head. "I have no wish to poke the hornets nest myself, but others may see your point better." He trails off when he notices Velm watching them while having missed exactly what was said by the chief healer, but he stands at attention. "Captain, sir."
Velm frowns as the battle of Redwall is mentioned sort of in a daze a moment and then shakes his head to clear it. A deep breath "I asked if all was alright, ya both seem a bit tense right now. Stress is not good by de way." He hands a passing private the clipboard "Here... list of stuff needed in de infirm... thank you" The private nods and will drop it off where it is to be dropped off.
Adrian raises a paw. "Not outright provocation. Just... A little sleight of paw to make them think we're a massive ahrmy and not t' be undahestimated. If they're watchin' the mountain, an' they most likely are, I say we give 'em quite a show t' make 'em think. Double up trainin' drills an' patrols, so they think we've got double th' 'ares tha' we really 'ave." He sees Velm and also comes to attention. "Sah, we were just discussion recent events."
"Of course not sir," Terrence relaxes somewhat, dipping his head, "Yet it can't really be avoided in our profession, now can it?" Yet his eyes still have the same look as they glance back at Adrian. "And if they call our bluff, what then?" Shaking his head he states more firmly, "Either way it will have to be the choice of the colonel and the rest of command, I should think. I'll have to bring this to them." He looks positively thrilled at the prospect.
Velm nods "True stress can not always be avoided." He doesn't ask for details, he figures if the Home Guard needs details they will be told.
Adrian shrugs his shoulders. "They haven't seemed too inclined to bother us before now," he points out. "But they could eventually construe our non-interference as weakness, an' I wagah that'd be the moment they make some kinda move."
The master sergeant gives the captain a thankful look as he gives no sign of asking questions, so Terrence turns back to Adrian. "Maybe, maybe. So our 'show of force' as you say could merely be us making the first move to open up a dialogue, hmm? Perhaps the band of Merchants despite their flaws are ultimately altruistic in their goals..." It's rather clear from his tone and body language he doesn't think this is the case.
Velm just decides to get back to what he was doing, but first "Also, just ta let you know Private Donica will need some time off closer to Autumn," A smile "She is with child and it will be born sometime mid or late autumn." He heads off, in a good mood it appears. Well least he is in a good mood anyways.
Adrian shakes his head. "You an' I both know that whole "we come in peace" diatribe is just poppycock," he replies. "Nah, I know an invadin' army when I see one. This is just their beach'ead. Their pre-invasion. They're softenin' up their tahget. Gettin' th' lay o' th' land. If they truly came 'ere peacefully, they wouldn't 'ave brought so many soldiers. But they're smaht enough not t' just staht a war blindly, too. So they sent themselves a glorified scoutin' pahty. An' they're bidin' their time, tryin' to ascertain our strengths an' weaknesses. Tha's why I'm sayin' we need t' present an impression o' imposin' strength t' them. If they they think f'r even a minute that we're weak an' losin' control, they'll come in ovahwhelmin' force."
"I-" Terrence splutters as the captain walks off, "Dammit." He curses, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I'm out of another bloody corporal, again. Maybe I'll poach that Monty from you, or strong arm Dom out of the crypts...."
With a sigh he listens, nodding slowly. "You could be right, and we'll probably prepare for that case, yet I should help you're wrong for all our sakes... By the by," he murmurs, still distracted by the lack of corporal, "Who was the other hare who went with you and the lieutenant to Halyard? ...Shawn, Sheen? Anyway, depending on how you'd say their conduct was, they could be on a short list. I'll mention both issues to the colonel as soon as I can."
Adrian is happy for the change of subject, so he neatly pivots. "Oh, Sheen? She 'andled 'erself remarkably well. A good 'ead on 'er shoulders, that one. Why don't we go get a drink, eh? You look like you could use one..."
"Right, that's good to hear..." He answers, not quite listening, "Addersmith would also be a choice, but he put in a request to go with the 67th whenever they go to that backwater, badger lord knows why," he mutters, "And Konner used to be on there, but, well, we both know that's not gonna happen soon, wot." He pauses, having finally realized the offer. "Er, no - I was serious when I said I'll have to go speak to the colonel, and I intend to do so as soon as I can. Maybe afterwards though, sergeant."
Adrian frowns. "Well, don't put it off too long," he replies, "Y' look like a wound-up spring, an' ya really oughta release that tension soon before y' burst, wot."
"Ha!" Terrence snorts, "You don't need to me that, I already know. But I would take you up on that offer if I could, trust me. But the works never done- never ever let yourself get my job, if want my advice. Try jumping to a proper officership before they rope you into doing all fiddly work for seasons on end."
With that he starts up the hallway. "I'll see you later, sergeant! Perhaps we'll get Konner back soon."
Adrian raises a paw, and waves. "Ah, I do hope so," he calls out, then he resumes his trip up the summit. He still wants to get that evening air...
Four hares return to the 23rd!
(I completely forgot to post this log before! oops!)
SGT Adrian, Rt-LT Elbio, & LT Lossow + spoofs
The night watch has just changed now that midnight has arrived, and the two hares begins to try and settle in until morning.
"I believe it's down this way." Lossow murmurs as he slowly moves in the dark up the path. "I've only been here twice, but Sheen -"
"Yeah, sah, this is the right way," the private interjects.
Elbio has managed to follow, with a little help that is. He has been a little slow at first as he decided, against his better judgement, to leave his wheeled chair at the cottage. He decided to tag along to the 23rd after some thought on weather it was wise to stay or not.He only hopes Ciana comes along soon as well, or at least gets to the mountain. "This is the first I have, well heard of the place oddly enough"
"It was afore yahr time, mate. Fathah retired from the 23rd back before I was even born, t' be honest. An' it's been abandoned pretty much evah since."
Adrian says all that.
"You 'eah something, Fred?" Harolds asks his fellow sentry. "Think I 'eard voices."
Walter's ears perk up having in turn heard the sentry's voice. "Well, lads," he says with a grin hidden by the night, "I think we made it!"
Adrian mmms. "Finally, the voices are hares. About time, too. Ahoy, 'Arolds, let us in. It's Adrian, Lossow, and Sheen."
Elbio hmmms, he lets the others lead as this is the first he has been here before."Well, this is intresting and close to Halyard but hidden"
Harolds blinks. "Adrian...?"
"I think that's a Swiftbuck, like the Majah!" Fred hisses to his friend.
"Lieutenant Walter Lossow," the officer speak up, "And Sergeant Adrian Swiftbuck an' Private Esther Sheen, reporting back."
"Ah, right away sah!" The first hare speaks again, the door opening revealing the two privates who salute. "Didn't expect you lot tonight, not at all! If ever, really... It's been a while."
Elbio let's the others be in front before he goes to stand on his own a moment and stumbles a little. He clears his throat as he nods a hello "Hallo... for those who don't know me, Lt. Elbio Hans Reed, retired for the moment but coming back out of it. Gonna stay here a little while and hopefully head back to Redwall Abbey." A small smile "Surprise them even, they... well wasn't expecting me to be able to come back."He sighs "I still have some healing and recovering to do,I know"
Adrian sighs at the privates. "Aye, well, neithah did we. Our mission was a dust up, I'm afraid. An' we lost Konnah. Did 'e evah come back 'ere?"
"Konnah's not with you, sarge?" Harolds looks incredulous, "'Ow did..?" But he's distracted by Elbio, saluting again. "Oh, sah! I'll be 'onest, there was a rumour you went back to that Redwall place, and that's what I thought..."
Lossow cuts in, "Yes, yes, that's all good, but concerning pvt. Konner - is he not here?"
The two sentries share a look. "No, sah."
Adrian sighs. "Of course 'e ain't. This just keeps gettin' bettah an' bettah. Well... Per'aps we could discuss this inside rathah th'n out 'ere, eh?"
Elbio frowns "A missing hare? No one else is missing are they?" He will step inside, with some help of course and once inside sit in the closest chair. He frowns as his legs clearly hurt, but he made it here. Slow but made it,he replies to the mention of the abbey "Yeah that got a bit....messed up thanks to a hare that will not be named"
"Uh, right, sarge," Harolds responds, stepping aside, "I think the commandin' officehs are all resting by now, and frankly I'm loathe to wake them........."
"Of course." Lossow mutters as he pushes past them. "Well, I suppose I'll go wake up, er," he turns back to the sentries, "Is major Varus here, currently?"
Private Sheen who has remind quiet up until now, goes to help Elbio inside. "It's just Konnah, sah, if you know him. No one else."
Adrian blanches. "Do NOT wake Fathah right now. We'll give 'im th' debrief tomorrah."
Elbio nods "Wise to not wake the Major..." He then speaks a little quieter, "How is he doing by the way? Mostly himself now?"
"Uh." Harolds shrugs, "He's.... fine."
Lossow raises his paws, "Alright, alright, point taken. I'll deliver the bad news about private Konner in the morning, and no doubt be yelled at for not waking him up as soon as we got back. Oh well. I need a drink - Sheen, where's the bloody mess hall in this place?"
"Er, I think down the hall to the left, if I recall rightly, sah."
Adrian sighs. "Lissen, Walt... I c'n tell 'im f'r ya, an' take th' blame."
Elbio listens to the others chat and leans back in the chair he is in.Luckly its a soft chair and he shows just how worn out he is from the trip here and is soon asleep in the chair.
"Listen, I'm not the one directly under his command, so all he can do is yell." Lossow replies, waving his paw as he heads for the mess, "I'll have the chat with the major in the morning. Or I'll tell that master-sergeant if he's around first, and let him deal with it. Come on, I haven't had a good meal for weeks it feels like."
Hey, so I'm going to be online starting now (noon my time, 2 pm EST) for the next two hours. I will have to go early because there's stuff I need to do this afternoon, but hopefully there's time to get some RP done today!
I'll be around today as well for a few hours!
Also speaking of Elbio that reminds me of another aspect that I've had in the back of my mind: hopefully those hares going with him to Redwall/Mossflower area are the 67th - so basically Lossow & Lucia (if you guys remember her...) and anyone who volunteers to go as well.
The IC goal of the 67th coming back to Mossflower is to have better communication with the western shore and be a sort of support system for Elbio as the RW residential hare. The small group of 67th hares will stick around their base and hopefully check in on Redwall every month or so, and say if Elbio has an urgent message for Salamandastron, rather than him making the long journey by himself and leaving Redwall one of the 67th hares can go instead while the rest of them can go and help Elbio and Redwall out if they need it.
While re-establishing the 67th's presence in Mossflower has IC'ly been spoken of for a while now, what will really motivate the move will be after whenever the LP and the BoM officially make contact (be it in a peaceful or violent way) with maybe someone giving the LP a tip about what's going on more inland, the LP will be anxious to keep a closer eye on the area around Redwall. Hence, the 67th being finally moved back out there with Elbio.
Now, something I would like to do during May to set this up is have at least one or two RPs taking place on the western shore wherein the BoM sends a messenger to Sala expressing they want to meet with the LP to try and get on friendlier terms - as well as trying to get the Lp to fully agree to leave Halyard and the BoM completely alone (which I doubt the LP will...), or at least get the LP to warm up to the idea. The messenger coming to the LP could be RP'd today if people want, and then we can see how things go from there!
Also, at some point Konner will have to make a reappearance (I might write up a short story about what happened to him...) and the sea otter Adrian and Lossow met will also show up after the meeting and tell the LP about the BoM sending beasts (Urtas & Atticus) to Mossflower, which will in turn prompt the 67th finally going to Mossflower - not by the river but instead to avoid any chance of being seen by Halyard & the BoM going on foot around the northern edge of the western mountains that lay between Salamandastron and Redwall.
It might honestly be a quicker journey too because they won't be sailing upriver against the current.....
Hey! I'm glad to see you're still around! Others have also asked for an update so I finally made a post: https://rwmuck.org/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2308
As for Zywie, if you don't really want her to disappear/have disappeared, the LP as a whole has been kinda inactive save for the 23rd/Halyard plot and Velm's stuff, so you could just say she's been around and just join in if you want ![]()
